A thread for Skunks, and skunk hybrids in genral. What's been your experience with, or memories of what has become almost mythical in nature? Back in the day when I was comin' up there were two types of weed available, skunk (often mildly seeded), and mexican brick (lots o smashed seeds). The skunk buds were of varying "reek" levels, but all carried the distinct skunk spray sent. Also where I lived, at the edge of suburbia, where newley paved roads met cow pastures and wooded farmland, many skunks met their end, so i was very familiar with the smell, and they made convient scapegoats in a pinch. We planted bagseed a few times, but the plants never survived nieghbors, farmers, or cops to get to flower. Ive grown out many itterations of skunks and hybrids over the years and most I could only say were skunk-ish. So .. Cheesey? Funky? Rotten? Sweet? Skunky? Have a fav? Let's talk skunks!

I remember talking to a neighbor and looking for a skunk. I had just smoked outside but I thought I'd be neighborly and look as it might not have been me. I never mentioned that it might have been and we never found a skunk after a short look.

Royal Queen seeds has a strain called Special Queen. Its a cross of Power Bud and Skunk. Anytime someone says Skunk its what comes to my mind. Has that old school nasty funk with a fruity twist and grows nice spear shaped buds that get frosty!

When I was growing up we had access to tons of Mexican brick weed. Thinking back some of it was terrible, but some was actually very good smoke. The best of that brick weed was a particularly skunky variety. Lime green brick weed with red hairs. Reeked of skunk. Only person that had it was a dude that lived out in the country named Juanito. That was over 25 years ago and still remember that stuff. Wish I had saved some seeds as it was Lightly seeded. Don't know what strain it was but was obviously outdoor grown in Mexico somewhere. Panama Red? Is that skunky??

@Southside112 that was my experience as well, mexi brick could be hit or miss, but when it hit, it was one hit quit for lighter tokers. Buddy of mine had regular house parties, and we had a charcoal black acrylic bong we called darth vader. A friend of ours came downstairs with a big shit eatin grin on his face, and a babyfood jar in his hand. He popped the lid and the strongest skunk spray smell I ever encountered filled the room. no rotting meat carcass, no sour trash, no sweetness, just dank funk and skunk. To this day it was the strongest herb I ever smoked, but I was not as seasoned as I am now. Lime green buds sticky icky skunk funk. I woulnt say the panama has much going in the way of skunk. Ive only grown ACE's tho. Their description is pretty on point, I did A.S.S. x Colombian from Coastal Seed Co, all the palnts were big colombian phenos, and that was simillar in terps to panama. The red dawn skunk is showing promise in that old school funk department, Im prob going to cross to purist indica, then backcross. The 1st run I did had that sour trash smell ... not very skunky, but it finished more on the AK47 side. Nice old school, no gas.

Mine was always lightly seeded as well and we coveted those seeds back in the day. Grew some out in the late 90's.. and they were very good plants. Did not realize at the time how good. The only goal was to get to the end, we had no clue what we were doing except for some grow books found at the library of all places. I was lurking over on Tangwenas Malawai Cob Curing thread on IC,and it got me thinking on the "high of yesteryear" vs todays 20-30%thc and how there was a dif quality to the head. I might be just an old head chasing the dragon, but it might be that some of those kinder skunk bricks may have been produced state side, and there may have been some cob style curring effects going on with a 6 month or more turnover, pressed tight, and bagged tight, from harvest to street. Just some thoughts.

Yeah, his G13 is one of the legit legit ones. He had the original cut and bred it to Haze, Skunk, and Widow (which also has Skunk in it). G13 Haze is also one of my favorites.

The closest that I've come to skunky terps was, oddly enough, from an Attitude Freebie of 710 Genetics' G13 Hashplant. When I had it hanging to dry in my laundry room, the mildew smell was so strong coming off of her that I thought I'd left a load of laundry in the washer. Like, multiple days I went in there and looked in the empty washer to make sure there wasn't something rotting inside, then I smelled the plant and it all made sense.

I gave up on skunk terps..Ide have to say it was around 2004 or 05 I was still getting some brick which I know for fact was getting shipped straight out of Mexico..Super hit and miss. One time I was cleaning up a LB and had a bag that I weighed and it was 3 solid zips of sticks and seeds.. However the cost was $500 so at the time I couldn't bitch.Most times it was the same show..Crazy compact dirt but sometimes the smoke was quite potent..I remember the time I was shocked AND pissed the dude said it would be $800. That one was still compact as ever but super lime green and had a real skunky odor and bright orange hairs..I did grow some of those seeds and I remember harvesting that giant plant outdoor in two sections..The top half was end of October and the bottom half I chopped with snow up past my ankles..Was still some good smoke..A few of the indoor plants went long and I named that strain pitbull..They cured out like skunk ass but with a applely sour pukey smell. It was some of the best ide grown and looking back I had no clue whatsoever how to really grow indoors...I got the job done but these days it would be laughable and basically sad..Man what ide do to get my hands on some of those same seeds these days and really hunt..The best old school I really ever seen was a plant my mom grew and damnit man if I could have gotten a clone back then..Of course it never crossed my mind. She grew whatever seed was available..But that smoke was literally eye watering straight litter box cat piss..Hard core ammonia.. Soaring ass intense happy sativa buzz...Uuuhh man ide pay $500 for a cut off that plant right now..Why's it so hard to find anything with these old school terps...Been scratching my head the past few years ..I want some of that old intense terped out madness.. Getting closer looking at these Tuna kush and Pakistani Chitral..If it can be found I'll find it..

Last of what I'd call real skunk was seen around 07. I knew a guy that was growing a cut. No clue what the actual lineage was. I haven't come across anything that pungent since. I was growing at the time, and didn't even consider growing it. It was so rank I would have gotten busted. I'd pull up to his house & literally smelled it a block away, pure skunk spray. He'd give me a quarter, I sealed it in multiple bags, stuffed into into a can of fresh coffee, buried it my duffle bag, and by the time I drove 5 hrs back to college the entire car smell like I mowed down a family of skunks. The smell just could not be contained. Shit was one toke and eyes deep red & droopy, forget what your doing, munchies for days type of stone, loved it. Coated the mouth something special & had that deep chest flavor that kept begging for another taste.
It's still out there somewhere, even if hidden in the genetics. It's the kind of stuff that keeps me hunting, that's for sure

So after this round of red dawn and apollo, and after running TNF skunk18 and Carrion skunk, and AG skunk1, I think I can say "The skunk is dead, long live the skunk!" Its in there .. its not what it was but it lives on. The Red Dawn and Carrion have a rotten, sour component that I didnt experience with the 90s skunks, even as the carrion is half 90s superskunk I believe. The Carrion was so foul I didnt run it again lol.. The AG would have been referred to as skunk, but not loud or "kind". It had a light honey sweetness to it. With Apollo one of the reasons I kept it around so long is that it has that cheesiefunk to complement the sweet side. Carrion and Red dawn I would have called skunks back then I think. Just woulda had dif names like trash panda or somthing like that. They have the "rank" just more on the sour, spoiled side. Reading grow logs of purist indica and other afgahnis/pakis that look promising as well. Im going to cross the red dawn with apollo and purist indica when I make my next skunk run, prob sow this fall.

I did do a run of goldfish a few years back... smelled like catfood, wasnt up my ally. Ive always wanted to run PCK, I'll have to grab some beens soon.

Reefermattnes has a G13skunk clone they hype alot .. they want 500 tho, claim 8% wash. Think it came from gage green but not sure.

I thought I heard that it was through Mr. Nice directly, but who really knows? The day I pay $500 for a clone is the day someone goes back in time and finds a cut of G13.

I could see a large pheno hunt of the G13 Skunk throwing up some winners, but the G13 Widow (which is actually G13 x (Widow x (Skunk x Widow) was clearly superior. One of the phenos stacked so hard and densely that the buds would mold to the stem if they weren't pulled away in flower.

A lightly seeded bag of skunk was what started my adventure in indoor growing... This was back when I was somewhere between 20-25 I was living in an apartment... Buddy of mine said I can get some killer skunk bud I said ok I want some .. first hit that and said yep this is what I need I was pretty sick of getting mostly brick weed that was probably full of cbn that brought me down... This bag was nice green bud not compressed at all didn't see much of that back then.. only wish I was smart enough to make seeds with it back then cause I remember getting a male that was pretty similar in structure to the female I found... Anyhow the only other skunk I had was from a pack of super skunk seeds that I sent a buddy to Canada to get as things were still highly illegal here at the time I found one pheno that was very good In That pack... It was just like the description at the time said brush against that plant in flower and the room exploded with a powerful skunk aroma... Left undisturbed in the room growing however you'd swear someone just mixed up a batch of grape Kool aid...
