The HSC "State Fair Trio" Grow!

What's up, Hunters!

I'm excited to get this particular grow under way! These are seeds I bought at the California State Fair this year, for 1¢ ea pack with purchase of canna products. Here's what we picked:

Initially I saw the "BBC" and thought it was Banana Butter Cups because that's how it's often labeled, but turns out is more likely Blueberry Cupcakes since this is a strain HSC has.

Anyways, off we go.

Seeds dropped in cups of Tupur, soaked with cal-mag water 7ml/gal pH to 6.3

For me personally, the best part of this is having gotten these seeds at the State Fair they're probably not even the "best" seeds I have, per se. Anyways let's see how much herb I can squeeze out of a 3¢ purchase

But, I cut the BBC x VF in half when I was trying to get the sprout right-side-up dropped another

Still nothing on the Banana OG x Purpz

Banana OG x Purpz just popped up but still has its helmet on. As soon as I see cotyledons on this one, I can relax and let the Trio grow


I also added a Cali Octane Triploid to the mix, but I'll be focusing on the Trio for this series I thought it'd be interesting to have a triploid seedling alongside some non-triploid seedlings for comparison


Everything's been moved back to the 2x2 for better warmth

They're doing pretty well, despite the less than ideal conditions

Temps and RH as the lights go out.

It results in a WAAAAAAY too high VPD for optimal growth. I mean, they're still fine but they'd be quite a bit further along if I added some moisture to their air .

The dry conditions keep the leaves looking a wee bit droopy, I should hopefully be able to fix that in 7-10 days. At that point I'll shut off the dehumidifier in the lung room which is aiding a finishing flowering plant. Growth is still good though

*CA Octane Triploid day 13 not officially part of the Trio but is still going to pop-in from time to time. I'm interested to see any significant difference in growth, so far it looks on-point to its non-trip counterparts

I'm attributing the droopy leaves to my low RH because even the biggest plant doesn't look too badly rootbound

Transplanted the Papaya Pancakes, and within a couple days it got much greener

The rest will get repotted soon.

So clearly, the triploid has bypassed one of the other plants but nothing crazy significant so far I would say all four are doing as well as expected given the low RH and my skipping the occasional watering lately.

I've already had to pull 4 big fan leaves off the Papaya, on everything else I only pulled the lower single-blade leaves.

at the end of flower (last 2 weeks or so), do you do anything different with your vpd? I normally drop my temps by about 10 deg F and also drop my RH to about 40%

any thoughts? keep it as is (1.4 to 1.6 or so) until chop??

Great question

The main thing I watch out for is humidity in late flower, I make sure it stays below 60% and as harvests approaches I aim for closer to 50%. All other factors like temp and VPD I really only check or monitor to diagnose an issue otherwise for the most part, my overall grow style is "let it ride"

thanks! I agree with your method about lowering RH%. last thing you want especially indoors is bud mold. you are going to be pleased with your Chernobyl. these 4 ladies are stinking up the place!

My Chernobyl is just starting flower, this is day 17

Banana OG x Purpz day 29 just topped and a few big leaves pulled.



BBC x Vanilla Frosting day 28 doing well a few days after topping.



Papaya Pancakes day 32 absolutely killin it



CA Octane Triploid day 27 doing well, but nothing extraordinary that makes me 'wow' over triploidism, at least not yet. But, it does exhibit better growth than at least one other plant.

5gal fabric, Tupur coco. I personally prefer 3gal of I'm trying to keep plants small but they get dry pretty quick for me to keep up with hand watering, 5gal gives me some leeway between waterings+ allows for bigger plants

cool, thanks! I use a mix that I came up with: coco, sunshine 4 and hydroton. my system is auto water though so I just increase the times and frequency as they get bigger.

check out the bitchen thread maybe tomorrow : i'll put some pics up there after lights come on tonite. they are in the home stretch.
