I love this site; where else could someone watch a halfling orc be questioned daily about the smell of a plant ?
I actually have the UK Cheese cut and have picked it up a couple different times over the last few years from reputable clone sources. Each time it was obviously the same plant in terms of structure, leaf shape, and growth habits. What really confirmed it for me was how familiar it looked compared to a bunch of Cheese hybrids and S1s I've run over the years. A lot of those plants basically look like variations of this exact cut, so at least from a lineage standpoint it checks out.
Where I think people might be surprised is the smell. It really does not smell like cheese, and honestly it isn't even what I would call a truly stinky skunk. Late in flower it leans toward a sweet solvent or acetone type profile. It has that sharp chemical nose sting you associate with solvents, but without the sour or acrid edge that usually comes with those kinds of smells.
When people talk about skunk or offensive terp profiles, they’re often talking about this broader class of sharp chemical aromas. Sometimes those chemical notes lean toward fuel, like you see in Diesels and Chems, and other times they lean toward the harsh solvent side you’d recognize from things like cleaners under the kitchen sink. Not the perfumed part of those products, but that raw nostril-clearing solvent character underneath. Those all tend to get grouped together because they fall under that umbrella of aggressive or offensive smells.
The Cheese cut, at least the one I’ve grown, doesn’t really land there. The chemical side of its profile is so sweet that it lacks the sourness or harshness that usually makes those fuel or solvent profiles come across as offensive. Instead it ends up reading much closer to a sweet skunk or even generic berry type terps than anything truly foul or funky.
After cure it shifts more toward dusty berries, kind of like stale potpourri mixed with a sweet skunk. There just isn't much in the way of funk, cheeses, or anything I would describe as offensive. If someone handed it to me without telling me what it was, I would just assume it was some kind of sweet Skunk 1 expression.
I also ran CSI's Cheese S1s and they behaved exactly how you'd expect from selfed Cheese genetics. Very similar expressions across the population, which makes sense, but again nothing that I would describe as particularly stinky or foul. Those were actually a really solid representation of the UK Cheese thinking back on it. It actually makes sense to me why this line tends to get paired with blueberry type genetics, and it also explains why I never found anything truly nasty smelling when I hunted through several packs of Cheese hybrids.
It's a nice plant. Pleasant smoke. When other people try it they usually compare it to sweet or fruity skunk lines, not anything funky. But I do think it could be a letdown if someone is specifically chasing that rotten, dank, offensive terp profile that the name kind of implies.
I know this goes against the common narrative around Cheese, but I also know I'm not the only one who's hunted through Cheese lines expecting heavy funk and ended up wondering where it was. It's always possible something got mislabeled somewhere along the way, but after growing a lot of Cheese-related material over the years, everything I've seen keeps pointing back to this same plant.

Well that sucks for me to hear because I grew cheese back in 06 and just recently finished a pack of UK Cheese from CSI and they were not the same plant. CSI tasted like strawberry cheesecake and what I grew from two packs of cheese from greenhouse seed co in 2006 are not the same.

never had a 100% legit cheese cut personally, i did work the JAH HOOVER CHEESE cut for a bit. now that plant did have a funk on her frame was it cheese not sure like i said i have never ran a known legit cheese cut of any kind. how ever was told behind closed doors that the JAH was one of the known cheese cuts just let out under another name.
with that being said i have ran a few cheese hybrids and i have made a few over the last year or so, and what i can say is many of them have the same type funk on the frames, again not sure if thats the cheese ppl speak or not. looking for some blue cheese seeds to have a look through, ahh no luck on that hunt thus far but i did locate some cheese quake seeds and the maker told me he used a very heavy cheese female in the line he sent me. will try that one in the next round.
