just a FYI. wonder if I should feel bad about the almost Terabyte I have of music from them??? lol
ON THIS DAY | In 1999, Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker launched Napster, a file-sharing service that made it easy to copy and distribute MP3 music files online.
It quickly became a global phenomenon (especially amongst college students) reshaping how people discovered and shared music.
Just six months later the Recording Industry Association of America filed a lawsuit alleging mass copyright infringement. The legal battle would eventually force Napster to shut down in 2002.
But its impact was lasting - accelerating the shift to digital music and paving the way for the streaming platforms we know today
