Who loves fishing ?

Just got back from the river.
Thought it might be the first little dino of the year when she started peeling line but it was just a little walleye.

She may not quite make 30 but she's within spittin' distance, imo. Tape was up in the truck so I took this to try to get a close idea.

Got two other little ones, including on the last cast. Love it when that happens.

Funny....very.......we have those sturgeon swimming around up here in Washington State so I was curious

First cast of the day! Only about a 3 footer but she was strong as hell.
We both ended up pretty muddy but both of us are fine.

If you haven't done it, balancing on a slippery rock in rubber boots while fighting a sturgeon with one hand and trying to take pics with the other, it isn't as easy as it sounds. ;)

Must be the mud and a trick of the light. She was in beautiful shape.

The river dropped overnight and there was nowhere I could wade out or bring her in that didn't mean dealing with deep mud. Like lose your boot and crawl away, deep, thick mud.
I couldn't tell if it was reflections or what. Awesome fish. We have them around my parts also but fishing for them is a no no. The only legal harvest is during the Black Lake Shivaree, and it's usually capped at 2 fish. Don't think the season ever lasts more than a few minutes, they spear them through the ice.

For reference, the pliers are about 8-3/8" long.
Not sure I've ever felt that much power from a walleye before. She pulled like a sturgeon, bent the rod double and peeled line and I couldn't do a thing. I was shocked when I saw a walleye. Shocked and very happy.

That was one of half a dozen or so. The others were mostly small, with one other good one that went 23 or 24.

What a great morning!

First cast, dinosaur. Not big, maybe 3 feet and didn't fight as hard as last night's big 'eye, but I treasure every single sturgeon I'm fortunate enough to catch. Two casts later, another one, this one in the 40's and she gave me a beauty battle.
Only managed a couple small wallies after that, but the day was already a big win.

Gonna relax for the afternoon, do some puttering in the yard, and likely head back for the evening shift.

It's a hard life I've chosen for myself.
