Who loves fishing ?

^Nice. You didn't get a 'Billy-type urge to go and give it a cuddle, I hope. ;)

I ran down for a quick trip after supper. There were numerous piles of scat that weren't there last time on the lane down.
While getting my gear together a truck with tinted windows pulled in and stopped pretty close to me. I was a bit nervous and had my guard up, but it was just two redneck couples out for a drink and a hoot and a drive on the back roads.

We shot the shit and I gave them a heads up about bear activity and they said they had just seen three of them a few clicks up the road. They went on their way and I walked through the thick brush down the bank. Of course there was fresh bear crap where I usually put my chair.

I went a bit upstream due to the water level, cast out, and started building an anti-mosquito fire. I looked over to see my rod twitching and reeled in a very dark and greedy ~20 inch wallie. He had the worm hook and the minnow hook in his yap.
I caught two more eyes while tending fire and swatting skitters before dark.

It's so familiar and right down there. I argued with the beavers, studied tracks, heard the first few notes of the coyote choir before it faded out and died off, and watched the sun set in the west while a big bright moon rose in the east.

I hope you all enjoyed your evening as much as I did.

So beautiful there!!

Popped down for a couple hours tonight. Was getting bites to start and caught one nice walleye.

After a while there was a solid thump and I grabbed the rod. I felt a bump, gave a pull, and something smashed it. My line went limp.

I reeled in and my top hook was bitten off. Presumably that was the first thump. A few inches below that, the 60# (maybe 80? thick and heavy anyway) fluoro had been cut cleanly. I'm wondering if the huge pike that snapped me off on one of my last trips is still hanging around. A big pike is about the only thing that could cut that heavy line so clean and quick.

Re-rigged, but never got another bite. As the temp dropped and the rain started spitting, I packed up and came home.
