At first I thought you meant the super obscure Marvel villain... but then a squirrel reminded me of the Blue Oyster Cult song... is this a Patti Smith reference? She seems your type...
Critics in the day called BOC the 'thinking man's metal band'. For a half dozen releases they gave the buyer kick ass tunes, lp gatefold and inner sleeve art that could occupy a stoned mind the entire length of the lp, and mysteriously vague lyrics that could translate to any number of interpretations. Vera Gemini is a great example. Is it a song about lovers each plotting the murder of the other? Is it a painting of a schizophrenic going off the deep end? With obvious references to the writers - Patti Smith had recently released her lp 'Horses' - and co-writer Albert Bouchard's birthday is 'the 24th of May'. How do you interpret the lines "You have slipped from beneath me Like a false and nervous squid."?
Paul Catlow says:
Vera Gemini is also a Marvel Comics villainess who takes revenge on the whole
world. She is seriously bad-ass. The comic follows on from the
Agents of Fortune album (released 1976) and first appears in 1978 - therefore the comic book is clearly based on and influenced by the song. Some of the comic artwork is telling - the Demon Lords manifest on Earth looking suspiciously like the five core members of the Blue Oyster Cult. They are seen in a panel based on the inner-sleeve artwork of
Agents of Fortune : where the five band members are grouped round a roulette table with croupier Patti Smith in the middle. In the comic, Vera Gemini takes the croupier role.
Note the bold letters 'Vera Gemini's game of
Dominance and Submission, a track from BOC's 3rd lp Secret Treaties.
Regarding my [rock and roll] type? I'm more of a P J Harvey cat.
