4x4 update! These all got trimmed and topped a few days ago and are filling back in nicely. Obviously there's a long ways to go but I find it interesting that the Herbs and Legend from @HydroRed and Bermuda Triangle Haze from Skunktek are by far the most vigorous plants in the tent, while the hypebeast shit from Rado and Wyeast are dragging ass (Whirled Peas and Corpse Paint respectively)

Only doing the one topping so hopefully these will be getting flipped in a couple weeks or so, depending on how quick they grow.

GC,
Have you noticed any difference in the grow bags performance?

Cheers,
WillieP
Hey Willie! Thanks for poppin in.

So the biggest difference has been in the ease of use. I don't think I've reached the point where I would be able to tell a difference in the growth yet. I feel like that will come once the roots fully fill the pots and we see how well they air prune, if there's any difference at all.

But they 100% water better, even the cheapest ones. Despite the various mesh sizes, they all funnel water down through the soil better than the felt pots. Whenever the soil becomes hydrophobic in the felt pots it can be hard to saturate it again because it just runs down the sides and seeps through, and that doesn't happen with these. They definitely can let some water through but in the whole they seem to keep it where it should be better. And as someone with a habit of getting lost watching cartoons with his kids till he falls asleep on the couch or having a few too many pale ales watching the Celtics with his friends, I know all about hydrophobic soil... it's amazing anything survives in here honestly lol.

Time will tell how big of a difference they really make, but they're definitely an improvement so far. They stay much cleaner as well.

Autos man. Clearly this purple roc bud got pollinated when the Magnum Opus threw sacs, but it was so early on the seeds only formed at these nodes with the presex calyxs lol. There's no sign of them in the buds. It's also funny because the seeds are almost fully developed even though the plant is still way early in flower. I'm on the fence about keeping this gal. I don't need the space, and she actually has some interesting terps. It's a weird funky grape and grease smell. Not cooking grease either, like lubricant grease.

But I also don't care about her at this point as the only surviving auto from that expirement. We'll let her ride for now I guess.
I've made many a bean using those preflowers in veg. Easy way to make a few beans while still growing your sinsemilla.
Flower the male early/ahead of time, veg a bit long for lots of sex parts, and pollinate all the preflowers. Rinse/spray for excess pollen, and then flower as normal. Seeds will be ripe about halfway three quarter ish through flower.

Thanks for the report! I’m glad they are working out so far.
Looking forward to seeing what your final thoughts are on them.

Cool method!
I was ignorant to the fact that anyone did this intentionally.
Thanks for sharing.

Chopped both FVK F2 today. The short probably ran a little long, and the tall probably could've gone a tad longer, but this is just how the timing worked out. Really happy with both phenos. Now that they're hanging, the short one is doing a pretty good impression of the Mass Super Skunk actually, trash cans and burnt rubber. Tall one is more garlic and gasoline. 20211210_204637.jpg 20211210_204705.jpg 20211210_204826.jpg

Slowly clearing out the 3'x3'. Almost time to hunt some skunks...

Just finished chopping everything in the 12/12 from seed tent and pretty happy with that experiment. Did exactly what I wanted, quickly showed me the traits of each plant. Next run will be a real hunt.

Plants ranged in yield from about 3 grams (the Godberry, which smells wonderful but grew like garbage) to almost two zips off the big FVK F2!

Damn. Where are we. In a bit of a holding pattern, and life got a little busy again. Not quite ready to flip the 4x4 just yet. I'm thinking maybe Christmas, will make it easy to remember lol. We will see. Just want a bit more size from them.

Still waiting on roots from the cuts I took from the GG4 (thanks again @Frimpong! She's beasting out, gorgeous plant) then it's flip time for her and the Hippy Slayer. HS cuts just rooted. Ive decided to be patient and purposeful (God it's killing me!) and use the 3x3 with the Cali Lightworks 400w COB for these two gals. They'll be in 5 gallon bags. Going to be the biggest plants I've done in quite a while!

Meanwhile, saw a couple thrips on some of the younglings... which means it's time for more Starship Troopers GIFs

giphy (18).gif

I may have overreacted. They all got the Athena root drench, mosquito bits, topped with sand, and I've been alternating between spinosad and Plant Therapy foliar treatments... the plants look a little mad, but I think the thrips are dead, haven't seen any new bodies on the sticky pads for a couple days
