Growing stuff and doing things

God damn man, looks beautiful! What would the silica be for at this stage? I was using it for young plants to develop strength in the stems, but am ignorant to its other uses.

I like to think that it helps out the stuff that gets water stressed the most, like the tops that aren’t in an ideal zone do better if you add silica. It’s for the stuff that gets too close to the lights, same idea with the kelp, help them weather the stress of the light.

I ordered some GS plant foods liquid kelp, I'll probably use it at 1/4 of the lowest recommended dose at first.

1 tsp of extreme blend is/was too much. like 1/8 tsp and I didn't see any problems but as soon as I bumped it up to 1 tsp I had some issues.

I'm not seeing any issues using hyshield (chitosan) at 7.5ml + 30ml of protekt (potsil) per 30 gallons.

I haven't been topping up my reservoir at all, and I've been changing it twice a week for a few weeks now.

I forgot to take pics of the humble pie on day 35 so I’ll get them tonight!

Cackleberry day 35 12/22

I keep pulling large fan leaves out so the light can filter down a little better. I really like having that light meter it helps to make those decisions.

Cackleberry is getting a little burnt but hey their tops are only 2”-6” away from the light and it’s just doing a little lightening directly under the light source. Humble pie is getting a little crispy where it’s super close to the cobs, you’ll see. Just from looks and smell I want to grow humble pie 3 again, hopefully it’s strong too.

I pressed 1oz of humble pie trim and got 3.2g, pretty good for larf and leaves.

It’s a little sticky, I think that I’ll bring the moisture content of the starting material down a little like maybe 5%. From what I’ve read that is pretty good for the sort of material I pressed, I would be able to get some more if I used higher quality flower and once I master the technique.

lessons learned:
I used a pre press, which is great! Pressing by hand or stepping on it doesn’t make it small enough to fit, I used some wood clamps.

Put parchment paper on both sides of the material you’re pressing, or it will stick to the mold, something I saw and forgot to do and then I had to scrape the material off the pre press plates.

I never would have fit 28g in that 4x7 bag without the press, maybe if I ground it up a little first but I just want to load and squish.

I folded my bag up in parchment using the “directional flow” method, works great! I can put my cold plate right below the parchment to catch any that flows off of the paper.

I started at 220f, today I’m going to try 200f.

it took a few minutes for me to work up to 10k psi, and then I pumped it back up when it would fall 500 or so, then the rosin flowed for a couple minutes before stopping. I need to get a better feel for this part of the process.

Try pressing at 185°F. I have found it to be a great all around temp to start. Yields can be surprising. Some plants don't give nearly what you expect regardless of frostiness. Others need to be hashed out to shine. Most modern hybrids yeild better than some of the older cultivars. It is a lot of fun figuring out which way works best for what cut.
