Day 19
I really can't explain how it makes me feel to see happy plants again after my first few mess ups this year. I noted needed to make some adjustments in my previous post. Here is what I am thinking so far.
1. While much improved the new mix isn't as aerated as I would like it to be. I find myself having to break up the top layer of soil a bit before watering. A mulch layer will help with this no doubt, but I also believe I need to lessen my peat input. For these 1 gallon pots I used 3 cups peat, 3 cups perlite, and 3 cups compost. I realized that the peat and compost act much in the same fashion in the sense that they of similar texture. So it's almost like 6 cups of soil material and 3 cups of perlite so it makes sense that my soil isn't breathing as much as I would like it to. My next run will be done in 2 cups peat, 3 cups compost, and 4 cups perlite.
2. I downgraded from 2 gallon fabric pots to 1 gallon plastic pots for two reasons. I don't have a spare washer to thoroughly wash fabric pots and I wanted to fit more plants into my 4x4 tent. I am realizing how much I miss the 2 gallon pots so I will be upgrading back to that size while keeping plastic as my choice of material for now.
3. Finally I am going to be upgrading to a nice flowering light in the next few months. I had two 600w mars hydro led lights initially but I removed one and replaced it with a 3500k cob light. The amount of heat that both 600s put out was truly a nightmare, especially growing on the second floor of a two story home in the southern heat. I already have my eye on a light from HLG and I am excited to pump out some nicer flower.
But it's always about improving. Even when I make all these changes I am sure there will be more things to change/tweak. All for the love of the plant. ☮
