My Namkading seed run

Yesterday morning the schedule finally dropped to 10/14. She looks like she's starting to stretch. Leaves come out so thin that they look like pistils so it's hard to tell, but I think the females are starting to show sex. As soon as it's obvious I'll post pictures.

They're finally unambiguously showing sex, and exactly half are females. I find that encouraging because if there was herming in the previous generation I might expect a higher percentage of females.

They're going to be tall. I can accommodate a doubling in height, but I think they're going to want to triple during stretch. So I may be doing some hedge clipping later.

Cool grow you got going on Rasterman ! I remember smoking Thai stick back in the mid 70s a few times...stoned with Steve Miller on the stereo 😊 How long do you think until you harvest ? (I saw in your specs 6 months from seed to harvest in Laos. Your plants look great !

I remember the exact same thing, including Steve Miller on 8 Track. 🤪 I think harvest will be in November, though I really have no idea. Nobody else is logging a Namkading grow so I'm guessing.

It's on ten hour days, so with luck maybe October? I'm just trying to make a crapload of seeds to play with so maybe I can harvest them earlier.

Holy crap though - you should see how these plants grow. SCROG might be the only way to grow them indoors.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think two of my males are true hermaphrodites.

Like I said a few days ago, leaves come out looking like pistils but I think these have both male and female parts.
I agree, I saw it in #23 and kept scrolling while trying to think of the mannerly way of saying so, and..yeah. Sorry for that but better caught than not.

Now I have confirmation - thank you! I'll yank them out tomorrow - don't have the heart to do it today.....
I hear ya. I had to clip a Durban male last week, only my second male ever and I hated it. I'm not breeding I just needed the yield lol. Good on you for working in landrace too btw. You are also doing Sinai iirc ? See I like that because you're not only working landrace but also working strains that might not be the average guys first choice, but still very much worth preserving. I had never heard of Sinai but there's not too much mediocre weed in that part of the world. I've considered Laos Highlands and Beldia or something else from Morocco.

There's a lot of strains that grow tall and willowy or bud sites pretty far apart or small airy buds, and to me it seems people aren't near as anxious to work with those. I don't really mind the idea of growing out something like that myself just for the reason that it's something none of my grow buddies are very likely to have a go at. Just something different you know.

I've had crops compromised by herms previously this year and was hoping for a break. Happily, this is my first males to herm so that's sumpin.

Yes - I just wrapped up a Sinai seed run. It's a pretty potent strain (probably around 15% total cannabinoids) that I think will make it easy to find great females. It's also the first strain not to cause my wife munchies (and that has been a problem). All of my phenos were easy to train and not lanky like a typical sativa.

Bag appeal with larfy buds probably isn't the worst of it, either. It's spending months waiting, to find out that there wasn't anything smokable in this run. I hope that doesn't happen to me, but if it does my plans are to make extracts. I'm also running a few hybrids as a fallback.

You used the word 'willowy'. It fits. My hope is to find a few really great phenos, then running them as a perpetual grow so the long wait won't matter so much. Once I've found them, maybe cross to an Afghani or even the Sinai females I just started pheno hunting to speed up harvest time.

I decided to up-pot one more time - to 3 gallons. I still have three females and one that hasn't shown that I hope is male. Whether it turns out male or not, I'm going to be reversing a branch on every female. I have a few seeds left, so if this is an all-female run I'll create a bunch of female seeds and convert back to regular in another grow.

20230720_131456.jpg

If the last plant turns out to be male, that's the ideal situation, obviously. Especially since it would be a late-maturing male, which is supposed to be a good thing.

With one male along with 3 reversed female branches I would expect well over 75% of the seeds to be female too. Each female would have selfed seeds and feminized seeds from the other females.

I expect to see sex very soon, however, and I have a suspicion that the last one is female too.

I should have already started spraying, but my reversal spray doesn't arrive until tomorrow and I'll start spraying then. I'll mark each sprayed branch with red string.

I started spraying 9 days ago. I'm not sure if I see male parts coming out yet, but don't think so. I've been supercropping to keep their height down and it's a never-ending battle.

I have clones of a couple, and some cuttings waiting to become clones.
20230729_125129.jpg

I'm going to plant them in a larger pot - maybe together in a 7 gallon and rig up a ScrOG frame just for the pot, so I can move it around. If I'm consistent, I should be able to make a bush and keep it from growing into the light. At least that's the hope.

I have these clones, and two are the same pheno, NK-6. I'll give all of them names soon.
20230730_121115.jpg

Once they've found the edges of the pots, I'm going to plant all but one copy of NK-6 in 5 gallon pots of Happy Frog. The other copy of NK-6 will go here in this 7 gallon pot.
20230730_120742.jpg
For this pot, I'm doing it right. I live in the woods, and after filling it with Buildasoil Recipe 3, I got topsoil and mulch from under a tree. After liberally topdressing with Buildasoil Craft Blend, I added the topsoil in and mixed it with the top few inches of soil. Then mulched with the pine needles. Then watered. I'm letting the living soil activate like you're supposed to. Whatever sprouts is my cover crop. A scary-looking bug came out after I watered, and I let it go because I didn't know whether it's friend or foe.

When one of the NK-6 is ready, it'll go into this pot and I intend not to add anything until after harvest. I'll run this one as a mini-SCroG.

The others (including the other copy of NK-6) in Happy Frog, will be manifolded to extremes, also with tomato cages. I'll be able to compare how they do, and the other NK-6 will be a control. I suspect I know how to run it, but also expect to learn a lot.

I am really looking forward to this challenge. The tent they'll be in is currently on a flowering schedule. Those ladies will be moved outside in a couple of weeks when my outdoor plants start flowering. Then I'll switch the tent to 18 hours. I will also be running a Sinai pheno hunt in the same tent so they'll have to wait until the Sinais are through veg. They'll be monsters before the flip. That's the hard part.

Until the tent goes back to veg they'll probably be in pots outside. It's kind of a balancing act, but my hope is that they stay on veg when days start getting shorter because they evolved near the equator. Or I'll outfit them with tiny lights to extend their day.

But, challenge accepted!

Edit: Updated typo NK-5 to NK-6.

I finally got balls today. I tried to get a close-up but it came out too blurry and this gal doesn't have big balls.

Here's where she's at today - @HBZ I have to kick her ass every day to keep her out of the lights. I'm constantly bending, breaking and twisting chiropractically. There's only one way I can think of to grow this strain indoors and get a good yield, that's ScrOG. I have one pheno with a mini-SCroG that I'm blogging on another site but am unsure whether I can post the link.

Time from start of spray to balls: 3 weeks.

... and now there are balls on everything. All the plants hermed. I think I'm going to continue to make seeds because I think herms are the default state. But I'm also running the clones under 12/12 to see if they still herm.

If this strain has the effects I'm looking for, I'll learn to live with it until I find some specimens that don't herm or cross them to something else.

I'm not surprised, since that's extremely common with landraces from Laos and Thailand. Just disappointed.

I'll run a bunch of the next generation in solo cups to see if I can find a few stable phenos.
