Both Three Crabs and Red Boat are Viet. Masterchef is also another one, lighter and can even be used straight as a soy sauce substitute. Even found the big bottles at the dollar store once, stocked up, never to be found again.
Ajinomoto! I remember that coming in an oldskool flip lid tin can lol. MSG is good sometimes. You can’t avoid it at most Asian restaurants, especially Pho. To me it can cause buzzing swollen lips and leave a film in my mouth. You know what MSG stands for? “Mmm…So Good” ???
Why did I think three crabs was Thai??? It tastes Thai to me lol. Now I have to get another bottle and try it again. I'd have to order the red boat online, my local market doesn't stock it.

For egg rolls/meat rolls/spring rolls - although I’m more of a savory vs sweet guy, Sweet Chili Sauce is great for these. There are a ton of brands but Mae Ploy is probably the most famous:

For egg and spring rolls I'm a hot mustard guy. Still haven't found a brand I like for home use though and I'm trying to not get condiments from take out places, too much plastic.

Ya you might be thinking of Tiparos, another very popular fish sauce. I agree I am more of a Viet and Chinese cuisine guy (real, not that Panda Express BS. When I was in China one of the factory owners asked me, “What is Orange Chicken?” ??? then he proceed to treat us all to an authentic real deal Mandarin lazy-Susan meal. Damn table auto rotated [most are manual rotation] complete w a dragon spitting water out. Private rooms, beer and Chinese Yellow Liquor by the case, 555 brand cigs, you had to partake or you couldn’t do business w em. They tried to drink you under the table before the morning’s business meeting. Never worked lol). I’ve seen Red Boat at Walmart, I was surprised!

Pace?? Green Mountain Gringo all day if buying from a store. Ha. That old commercial has been stuck in my head for decades. “New York City??” Other sauces I like are tzatziki, Bragg’s amino acids, good vinegar, infused EVOO, and ajvar. The 505 Southwestern brand has some good bottled sauces too.

Edit: A good salsa verde is a favorite too.
Dude that tzatziki reminded me of the garlic sauce they have in most Mediterranean restaurants. They all have their own blend, and I’ve never seen it in bottle form, maybe I’m not looking hard enough. Could be a Trader Joe’s or Whole Paycheck thing? Some restaurants are definitely better than others. But when I do have the chance to get some, I avoid saying “Hihhhhi” or “Hhhhhello” to anybody ? even if you store the leftovers in the fridge you gotta have 17 boxes of Arm n Hammer baking soda in there to absorb that smell.

Haha. It’s a Greek dip technically, but works great as a sauce on stuff. I grew up near Tarpon Springs, so I was always around Greeks and their food. It’s a simple dip/sauce. Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, vinegar, EVOO, spices, and other ways to tweak it. It’s fun to make falafels and use that as a sauce on them. I remember eating that in ‘94 at RFK for a Dead show with The Steve Miller Band opening. Good stuff.

You can find it if you search Mediterranean Garlic Dip or Spread. It usually comes on Shawarmas around here. Apparently, Heinz even has a version in a bottle...but that'd probably be the last one I tried lol

Love the Tzatziki sauce too though!

Some of the Middle Eastern restaurants around here are different than others, in that they serve more of a variety of food from different cultures.
So, they might serve some Indian stuff, some Shawarma, Gyros, Chinese, Pizza, Burgers, all at one place.
They also sell "New York style" specials like Chicken 65, and a Chicken and Lamb rice dish that is simple, but delicious.
It consists of rice, green peppers, onion, lettuce, grilled chicken, lamb, and the sauce, which is what I was getting to.
It's just Tzatziki and Sriracha, but the flavor combo with the chicken and lamb and everything is sooo good!
The Chicken 65 is breaded chicken chunks with onions and peppers and rice, in a hot ass red sauce, that I'm pretty sure is mostly Sriracha, but I feel like it also has the spicy chili oil that you get at Chinese restaurants.
Oh, like GC said, I also love that hot ass mustard at the Chinese joints too!

I feel like I could go fill a grocery cart with nothing but sauces shown in this thread!

Very cool. Ya whenever I go to a Mediterranean restaurant, most of em have both tzatziki and garlic sauce. Armenia isn’t bordering the Mediterranean Sea, but they also seem to get lumped in with the “Mediterranean Cusine” category. IDK ?‍♂️ it’s good AF that’s all that matters.

Ya exactly, the fusion, much like our strain crossings, can be excellent. It also muddies the waters so I’m never too sure what to categorize anything. A couple of years ago Jag and I got some chicken bowls at Halal Guys in NYC, not sure what region/culture they originated from, but that stuff was totally legit, and the garlic sauce woo boy one of the best I’ve ever had. I’m sure the rats enjoyed it too cuz I dropped some through the grate we were standing over while eating lol

Yeah, there's only 2 of those places that I know of, so far. I'm not sure their nationality either, but I feel like they came here via NY, and that's why they offer the variety they do. They also practice Halal cooking. Those are the only 2 places I've seen the "Chicken 65" and Chicken and Lamb rice bowls they way they do them, so I figure those dishes are probably more common in NY.

It's feeling like lunch time with all this talk! And now I wanna plan something chicken and rice for dinner...

Anyone have a good chinese hot mustard brand (or recipe)? I need to start keeping some in the fridge, local takeout place keeps forgetting it. I dont like my egg rolls without it

This one is pretty good on egg rolls. Wallyworld has it here ~$10
