Summer is finally getting going after a cool wet spring.

Replaced the greenhouse with a single 7x3 raised bed with cold frame and a 2nd planting area that has heat wire in it.

Those are gw x cnc in the heated area and Twinklehawk in the raised bed.

Also in the heated area are 2x dj short breeder's choice mix no. 4 that were direct sewn May 29 and have endured low 30's

Last year's columbine project looks like a success to this point.
20230625_082457.jpg
Several that were planted in the yard survived too, so I've decided to give some a better chance at thriving this year.
20230625_082844.jpg
They won't flower this year but next year should do well in the amended whisky barrel vs where the original seed moms are. Chamomile that was collected last year too.
20230625_082829.jpg

First real cannabis project of the year got under way today too.

@Buck5050 GorillaBlues male won't quite stay in veg under 20/4 so it is the first test candidate for Florel reversal. Went fairly strong on the mix I think @ 8oz/gal because I had to treat a couple trees for mistletoe. We'll see if they survive.

That's just it. This place pHushes me to grow. I'm satisfied with my growing skills, there's still a lot to learn but I want to focus more on breeding and other plants for the time being.

It's not like trying to keep up its just trying to learn how to learn, learn how to grow, be the person I want to be vs the person people think I am or what I think they want the to be.

I've been on a personal journey of betterment, and learning for awhile now. Realized I was feeling stagnant a few yrs ago after the divorce and have been changing that. I'm so with ya on being the person I want to be, spent too many yrs being someone else's idea and coasting through life.
Now about that smoke sesh........

Noticed that, the classes and courses type things you're doing are great tools to break down the barriers in your own brain by forcing something new in. Emphasizes to me how much I need to get back to pottery, I brought clay back from Canada don'cha knoo, eh?

This little one needs a bit more than it has but it's been "making due". Flying lessons began a few days ago, I think this hawkling is female but no knowledge there. Rodent ipm in full force, head on swivel, there was 2 more in the nest as of yesterday.

Cool to listen to the vocalizations too @Amarok , mom is barking hawkling is chirping and during the flying lessons yesterday mom (larger adult) was doing barrel rolls in view of the nest to "avoid" a crow. It really looked like mom was using the crow as a demonstration piece. Granted the crows seem to have a particular way of harassing the hawks seems more effective than the magpies and involves teamwork, pretty fascinating to watch the drama.

No kidding, eh? Once you start noticing it, you realize it's all around, and always has been, and we just weren't paying attention.

Oh, and subbed.

I've looked into doing this myself. I'm glad you're trying it since there's not a ton of info out there on the subject of male reversals. Keep us posted.
I'm going mostly off shady memory of what I thought was a cannamyth story from 20+ years ago. I got frustrated trying to find info a while back, found some tidbits from Israeli? scientists about epithyxxxxxxxon (sp? the active in Florel) then decided to keep a few promising/unique males and grab a bottle.

Unfortunately this trait on the GB is something that probably eliminates it from my consideration for now, might be good to speed flowering of something tho?

I ended up spraying them twice, forgot them outside overnight. Other than being cool the light was within a couple hours (short). Some small spots on one this morning, possibly from droplets. I'll probably wait a week or so before spraying again. Not sure when I'll put them in flower but it won't be until August at the soonest.

They did not like it one bit but new growth looks more like veg. Thinking 1/4 strength (2oz/gal) for the next go, would like to find the lowest effective dose or at least one that doesn't hammer the plant so hard.

This year's only volunteer -

Dialing in the BluSoak hose end systems for the main garden areas.

Going water only for now

This bed is basically native soil and compost.

Don't think the other DJ Short breeder's choice is gonna amount to much but will let it go for now, here is the healthy one -
20230630_194202.jpg

Redistributed some red onions that over wintered from last year, gonna see if I can establish a patch that sustains itself. Would like to get more asparagus too but this garden spot might get redone into a raised bed next year.

Fronto and nicotiana are off to slow start without the greenhouse, but looks like they will come on strong after a rough spring.

Getting a sense it's gonna be harsh year for weather. Few rounds of hail and expecting more. Plants that aren't self supported probably get the worst of it as the stones smash them into whatever support structure is there.

DJ Breeder's choice 4 plant 1 had an egg sac attached to the base several days ago. Sprayed it off with hose and did a round of sulfur as the first active ipm of the year.

Looks like they took it like champs with minor damages only. Friggin shredded my flowers out front. Pummeled them pretty good. They'll live but 90% of the flowers are gone off the stems.

The fungus is pretty crazy this year, this black blob on the tree stump was yellow a couple days ago, went red now black. Guessing it has something to do with the ants but idk.

I think Pirate is doing this to Jenny.

GB florel treated plants are pretty well recovered. Everything getting a bit if a test while wife is taking care of them. She's getting better at reading the plants but still over waters out of fear.
