Perpetual clone keeping!

Curiosity has me thinking about the preferred way of keeping clones in the long run. Ive been maintaining a few clones now for about a year now in small supersoil/live soil pots. Basically just want to keep them small, dormant, but healthy. How long do most folks let the mother plant go before it gets replaced by the new clone?

Awesome! For some reason I couldn't find alot on the subject. I have a few that I've kept in 4" tall nursery pots and solo cups for about 6 months. I also have a few recently that are in 1.5 gal pots that are now way too big, was anticipating passing around a few cuts. Ive noticed that cool temps with adequate light helps to keep them dormant, but they also get a bit unhealthy looking after awhile that way. I guess I'm still trying to find that balance without wasting soil and space. Thanks for all the feedback!

everyone has their own sop/method but this works for me NP, i can do 10+ trays all the time and get 99%+ and webbed roots at end np. any questions or i neglected something ask away or pm

1. Sterilization of ur tools/trays/tray inserts and surfaces , I say physan 20 @15ml per gal of water. preclean/scrub with water only than spray with physan 20 , let sit for 15min min than rinse with water . I suggest rinsing with r/o or distilled water , let everything dry and now you have clean trays/tools and insets and domes ( trust me it’s needed). I keep my scissors in the physan 24/7 and the rule with my scissors is every plant needs to be treated like a new patient and ur the doctor/nurse. I put 3-5 scissors in my physan and what happens is when I’m done with “ patient “ /plant I’ll put the used scissors back into solution but always put back/furthest part of jar/container, so by time u get back to those scissors it’s been 5min-10minto prep clean those scissors before use again.

physan20, best sterilizer/cleaner in world. it has 21 day fight against virus/mold (dried, unrinsed) vs bleech 25-30 min max and bleech is very corrisive and bad to breath in. physan is ag and pharm approved and been a big fan for 10+ years. they sell smaller bottles but i use it even for kitchen/bathrooms/general cleaning as well.

2. I use only distilled or r/o water that’s uvc cleaned ( if well water ) for my clone medium/cuttings soaking stage and rinsing of everything for cleaning . than for cutting soak and medium absorption stage I use same water mix. This mix is r/o or distilled and mixed with since 0ppm water I add “clone npk base” which is 20-20-20 made into 1/4-1/8th strengeth aka 1/8th-1/4th teaspoon per gal, I also add a small amount of defense microbes (super low dosage ) = SABF or tribus or amber = SABF @.5ml or tribus @.25ml or amber @.5ml ( this mode of action is to prevent and outcompete any bad pathogens )

3. I presoak my clone medium for 15min-1hr and I’ll be taking cuttings and letting them soak for min 15-30min before putting them into the clone medium. After the medium is presoaked (rockwool ph 5.5-5.7 , rest 5.7-6.5 ph) than lightly squeeze the saturated water in clone medium ( so it’s like a wet sponge) and place ur clone medium into the trays.

always make sure your clone moms are not dry and to always pre drenched way before u take cuttings . From rootbound to over feeding makes the cuttings rooted and healthy harder so make note a healthy and ready mom is key.I’ll take each mom and take 4-20 cuttings and for me I like to guratee I get a good rooted and healthy mom so I like in the tray 4-8 ( my tray inserts do 5 in each line). I also suggest writing digital or paper write a log of every clone and date it per tray, I also put date and what tray it is if multi . Reason I suggest this is because dif days of the cutting is when i’,l be giving more or less time without dome and also knowing when the cuttings should be rooted and so forth. Nothing worse than be forgetful and getting rooted clones but the top rot cause u aren’t taking some off properly and many things.

4. I really suggest getting a clone gel that u can directly put on the stem when you make your cut or squirt the gel into the hole vs putting gel in a container and u dip it in ( = virus/disease transferring ). I’ve used for cl-he medium everything from coco to rockwool to peat based . only dif if rockwool is ur ph needs to be 5.5-5.7 vs rest 5.7-6.5.
i tried many brands and i like this brand or athena

5. once u cut ur cutting where ur finalize before putting it into medium place it into medium and ur done. Mist the dome finely and have the dome hole cracked to only 0-10% cracked. Many say keep it 100% sealed but I disagree Inless u have super low rh in grow room. just dont mist ur cuttings till rotoed and only time i see its a option is if ur cuttings somewhere when cracking they "wilt" to mist em , last resort tho.

Once cuttings in dome misted and in their home Day 1-3 observe only, lift dome for 30 secs-1 min 1-2 x a day and observe for any obvious failures/mold/issues like medium being dry ( if any correct it) . I suggest unlike many guides only mist the side walls of dome so ur tops don’t get dripped on and for me it was one of the biggest issue exp if taller clones I would get sucess but my tops would rot even thou I did every step right . After 2nd-4th day gradually have air hole n dome 25-100% open. Key is watching medium to never let dry but make sure u are allowing a good eco system they don’t rot.

Day 4-10, start lifting your dome off longer now, start with 5-15 min. Observe if they start to wilt. mist dome walls after and put back on. Have dome air holes be open 100%. after day 1 of 5-15min no dome if no negativity gradually raise 10-30min per day. Observe and see if it’s no stress and progress . by day 7-14 days depending on health/strain it will have roots and also by end since u are hardening plant off it will not need dome by 6-10th day np. make sure through cycle ur medium doesn’t dry out and if it does what I suggest till it actually has nice roots to use a mister/sprayer bottle and use the clone npk recipe + microbes and mist them lightly vs drenching . the days of when u need dome and hardenign base on many things but key is hardening gradaully and when dome is off that room is like a vegroom rh% aka 65%rh+

6. Once plants are rooted and no dome I would suggest applying full based npk of ur veg plants and microbes and even a SAR booster like regalia . What I’ll do is first do a full non organic drench aka 1teaspoon per gal 20-20-20 once full roots with regalia and full dosage contiuum/tribus aka .5ml-1ml and some bioforce @1/2 teapsoon ( what i do). the quicker u give ur plants once rooted the sar to microbes better chances and def better chances of colonies being there. after that being organic once they dry out again i start applying organic tea and weekly added microbes to it. i can have rooted clones in tray and even top em for months , just good to have some extra's for many reasons .
