Biologists May Have Solved a 30-Year-Old Mystery on Why Touch Stresses Plants Out
Scientists have long known that touching plants can set off a stress reaction in them – but until now it hasn't been exactly clear how that worked at a molecular level, something that a new study hopes to shed light on.www.google.com
I’ve actually noticed on one of my plants I snapped a branch almost off but still connected by accident and taped it to hold it up and that is now the strongest arm ?I skimmed rather than studied the link, but it is interesting.
I hope it helps put to rest the whole "clipping the leaves of clones" practice.
"From knife cuts to animal bites to torrents of rain, every touch that a plant gets leads to a defensive molecular response – although these responses can be quite varied. They can lead to plants becoming more stress-resistant and flowering later in the year, for example."
I defoliate heavily, but I try not to damage the leaves themselves and only remove them at the stem. I first started removing at the stem when trimming to get rid of the "cut-grass" smell(which I've read is a defense mechanism that attracts insects that prey on leaf eaters) and it just became practice.
It only makes sense that the bigger the wound, the larger the response from the plant.
Yeah, I had only skimmed the article as well. Another one had dropped into my Google feed about higher nutrient and antioxidant content in strawberries from plants with insect damaged leaves. Don't think the cutting of leaves on clones is beneficial, not for me at least and if it does provide a benefit I think it's highly unlikely to result in higher potency or better flavor, just not close enough to budset time wise. I am a fan of lst tho and it was my understanding jasmonic acid in some way shape or form was associated with improved flavor.I skimmed rather than studied the link, but it is interesting.

Thanks man! I'm sure I'll keep myself entertained lolI bet you can find a couple things to do in Vegas. Have a safe trip. ?
I hope you brought suppliesSent in 10 samples today. I paid for two day shipping so we will see how quick they get the results back to me.
I have 8 tests left, didn't get to the Bahlki x Hippy Slayer, kinda of a hectic mess right now. Trying to get ready to go to Vegas for the weekend (not my cup of tea or my choice) so they will have to wait.
Will be pretty sweet to come home and be able to cull all the males already.
Yup, sounds like I got what a paid for. Now that Delta raised their prices its even less worth it. I have 8 tests left and I'll probably use them but then it's on to Farmer FreemanFreeman farmer got my samples last Thursday and I got results yesterday. Id pay $130 for 10 tests any day. Went smooth for me.
I had read mixed reviews but most of the recent ones seemed happy with the results. But at the moment it's looking like they're on the path to another disappointed customerIt could get worse too. I think @TreeFarmerCharlie had issues with them timewise.
