For anyone that hasn't been following along, I ceased all cultivation and all communication with Purple Caper and just about everyone in August 2018 and vowed to never grow again in my current residence because it really is less than ideal for many reasons.

In November 2020, @RookieBuds hit me up about taking some extra seedlings off his hands. I reluctantly took them and from that came the Lemon Do Si Dos.




About that same time, a coworker and avid smoker came to work raving about Blueberry Muffin. He really wouldn't shut up about it. So I got some regs.
2021 was off to a good start until I took in an infected mother without quarantining first. I spent until the end of July battling that mistake but ultimately got four Blueberry Muffin crosses, one of which seems promising[more on that later].

By the time I shut down in July to reorganize, I'd already noticed how much the scene had evolved and had started working on amassing a seed collection fueled by the Blueberry Muffin and long-term project called Vitto9 based off some Flo bagseed from Colorado ca 2010-2013.



I could go on and on about the Vitto's Flo but I'd rather spend the time trying to reassemble what was. The Foundation of which is Flo.
This is the current Flo and I can tell you right now, this isn't it.



That's not to say this is a bad cultivar, it's just not the one I'm looking for. The nose on this one is an aseptic berry smell. Imagine an operating room and the attending surgeon has a thing for musky berry body spray.

Now...

I finished the year with more Humboldt Seed Company strains. The Vanilla Frosting x BBM cross from earlier in the year finished on Dec. 31.




The initial project was just to see if any of the seeds were viable. They were.

Then I decided to see if the freshly germinated seeds could be refrigerated like you can with fresh cuts.
The plan was for a week but I ended up forgetting about them for two weeks.



I planted the five best looking sprouts and from that I got the two cultivars pictured above.
The short one has a very blueberry nose described as blueberry cotton candy.
The taller one is more of a cherry leaner with a lot of Gelato coming through.
In future hunts, I'll be looking for a shorter blueberry pheno.

In the tent right now are a Purple Caper Grand Fire that has about 15-20 days left maybe, a Flo with about the same 15-ish days, a second Grand Fire with less ^N issues, and a Copa Genetics Fast Purple F1 hitting 2 weeks today.



That is the only female of five beans. I got an interesting male from the batch too. I'll preserve the line and probably splah some on a CSI Durban I have stewing right now. Remains to be seen.

I just pulled a HSC Mountaintop Mint and Hella Jelly. I'm on the HSC train for a moment while I build up a small stash to give me more time to dig through other stuff. I've got some HSC Raspberry Ice Cream and Collie Man Kush coming up as well as some Humboldt Pound Cake.

I'd like to get to the Copa Goji's sometime this year and hopefully add some Briscoe's and dino_party to the collection.

I was pleasantly surprised by the BBM. The Freakshow was ok and fun. The Stoopid Fruits was really nice and a good yielder.

I finished the year with Mountaintop Mint seeds I got from an IG growmie that are alleged to come from Nat's personal stash.
It's A M A Z I N G and I'm not getting any mint but the inhale is cool like a menthol would be. Plant is straight up burnt rubber and the high is powerful and relaxing.
It would pair well with something like Peanut Butter Breath in the savory category. Wish I would have kept a cut on that one

Thanks Amos! Hopefully not a comedy of errors. I'm backing off the experimenting a little and focusing on performance and quality for a while. I've been doing this long enough to be past the silly mistake stage yet it still rears it's ugly head time and again.

Ok, first the bad news.
My wife and I have finally been priced out of our town. Yup, I'm a renter. We've been lucky for the past 15 years or so in that we've been under-paying for what we get. The landlord has been gradually increasing rent since 2012 and this year she finally put us out of the range we can afford. Which is actually still under the average for similar dwellings

The other bad news is electricity. There's more because we all know when it rains, it pours, but just trying to give some perspective of where I'm at rn.
I think I can sustain until July, then it's abandon ship time and on to the whatever. I knew this day was coming, just wasn't expecting it now.


Ok, now the good news.

It doesn't get any better than this:

Fast Purple F1 at 47 days



and the cut I took, four weeks behind it at 26 days



She's a bit sativa gangly but she's a nice producer. COPA says none have gone past 56 so we'll see. She's getting close, but the trichs are hinting 60-63.
The early nose was herby-mint but the last couple weeks has added a bit of skunk and what seems like orange without the bite. Like a pastel orange. But not orange. dig?

I pulled my Purple Caper Grand Fire at day 63 a couple weeks ago. It's probably one of the best finishes including dry and cure, that I've gotten from one of his strains... but



It's just not the same pheno that I was running in '17. Not even close, which is unfortunate because it's returning nice reviews. I'll try again later. I've got two more behind it I will turn to hash. The nose on the '17 GF was a distinct sweet grape smell and taste while this one is more masculine with none of the sweetness and the grape is hidden behind some other stuff that isn't unpleasant but also isn't my first 10 choices.

The [1st]Flo got chopped a few weeks ago and I/we have been sampling here and there. The tops are prime. The high is bright and heady with no heaviness at all.. definitely not a before bed smoke.



The nose is berries on the front end and and hash on the back end. The taste is berries all the way down. I've tried Flo two times, many years ago, and this is nothing like that. The terps on this aren't as strong and sweet as the Hella Jelly, but it's a true smell, an organic smell, to Hella Jelly's high fructose corn syrup sweetness.
Until I can run through the rest of the beans, this is the keeper and the most requested "can I have some more" right behind the Mountaintop Mint[I'll do a separate post on that].
I've got a HSC Collie Man Kush, Raspberry Ice Cream, Mountaintop Mint II, and Humboldt Pound Cake, as well as a CSI Durban, a Seven of Nine and Miner's Wife from Second Generation, and a small seeding project a few weeks into flower, which brings me to the even better...


The weedster bunny visited. In light of all the bad news, I'm really hoping I can get to the Space Pastry and my Dream Floats soon.



Holy shit, guys! It's like Cracker Jacks for adults except the popcorn is seeds and the prize is seeds and it's just prizes as far as the eye can see.
This shit better hold up. The camera adds 10 lbs, they say.

If I can get a couple holes plugged in this sinking ship, I'll pop them and at least get a feel for where they're going to fit into my program. I want to get to the COPA ICC x GSD pretty soon too. Plus he just dropped the FP for real. I'm entering that existential crisis zone you've all already experienced probably.

Thanks Manthatreeks. I've kept the bulk of documentation over at growdiaries except I fucked up and added an extra week.
I'll drop a post-harvest update shortly after chop.
Against all common sense, I'm going to try and pick up a pack from the recent drop. The FP I smoked in October was nice but didn't really do it for me in the "high" department. It was a good overall smoke though.



We've got options until we figure things out. Thankfully. And thanks for the encouraging words.

I try not to look back too often and use that to guide me into the next 'strain' This was one I should have kept a cut of. Whatever the fuck it is, everyone wants more. Even my Peanut Butter Breath stans are like 'nm, you can toss the PBB, do more MTM'

But this wasn't HSC packaged beans and what's turning up makes the mind wobble. In a puzzling, curious way.

I dunno if you saw the post I made in the HSC thread on RIU. I cover some basics in the side-by-side with @popandsongrows.

As stated, these weren't HSC packaged beans. They came from Aliencat on IG and there's no reason to believe there was any corruption in the chain of custody from Nat, to Aliencat, to me.
That said, something is up here and I sure don't know what it is. The best I can gather is Freakshow comes from the same genetics Mountaintop Mint does. Or the "special" pheno has something the packaged beans don't.

I grew the Dark Heart cut of FS early in 2021. It was a nice skunky rubber. Kind of unique. Nothing of pineapple, or fruit or anything else I've heard described. It was just a nice skunky-rubber. It dried to a sweet skunk with a bit of sweet, perfume-y underscore. It was aight, but nothing impressive.

The Mountaintop Mint I just grew had the same general knuckley, kind-of fox-taily structure. These buds were a little tighter than the Freakshow but the similarities are there.

The smell is even similar but as I stated on RIU, the Mountaintop Mint is better. Take my word for it. Or don't.
The packaged beans might be entirely different. There is no distinguishable "mint" in this and the only conclusion I can reach is that this shit mints money. Because it is. Money. It's Vince Vaugn in Swingers Money and it's money in your pocket money.
It's for savory weed lovers for sure. The inhale is a smooth rubbery-ness on the level of the finest vulcanized rubber mixed with heavy cream. The exhale is a smokey hash. It's smooth and pleasant.

Whatever the heck it is. I don't know. It's called MTM but now it looks like Freakshow.
Between Popandsongrows and I, we have seven beans left. I'll probably try to hold on to any future ones that come close to what I just finished.

I also need to grab some packaged Mountaintop Mint because that's what we originally wanted and now I don't know

I'll keep you posted on the Mountaintop Freak and any subsequent beans that get popped.

Wow. Yes keep me posted. It is the “pony tail” cut of MtM. I’d love to get a pack and have one to turn out that way but with my luck… to be clear, are these f2’s of the hsc or something else?

Incidentally, I haven’t heard anyone anywhere enjoy the Freakshow smoke all that much. So maybe this is something completely different.

Honestly, I don't know. I got them in a mylar bag from aliencat. It was marked Mountaintop Mint. There was also Raspberry Ice Cream[testers] and Humboldt Pound Cake. When asked, aliencat said the beans were "special" from Nat's personal collection. Humboldt knows I got the beans from aliencat but other than what's going on with the second one, I haven't inquired further as to the story behind the beans I have.

When I posted the 2nd bean to IG Nat ?guessed? Mountaintop MInt and said nothing about Freakshow.


And yeah on the Freakshow enjoyment. popandsongrows asked me right after I got the clone, why there weren't any reviews on it even tho it's been around since '18. I ended up dry sifting what I had left.

I look at them like a higher-priced frozen dinner. You can make the same thing from scratch and it will probably be better but it's going to take longer.

I haven't had anything that I don't like but I do like the Stoopid Fruits and Hella Jelly the best so far from what I've grown. I've got Poddy Mouth and Pistachio #6 beans as well as some Vanilla Frosting fems. I'll be running them for a while for sure!
