Dabpress 12 ton (4"x7" plates) press conversion to a powered press.

Currently in the process of converting to air power to make my Dabpress 12 ton unit easier and faster to use. Since most hydraulics are 3/8" and not the supplied 1/4" I had to purchase the fittings to convert the ram's connector to 3/8". (Dabpress offers a conversion fitting kit on their site and on Amazon)
While I was waiting, I changed out the pump's ram quick connect fitting to 3/8" (<10 minutes) and attached a cheapo 3/8" 2 speed manual pump that I had in the garage. Holy crap, what a difference. 1/2 the time and 1/2 the effort that the stock 1/4" pump took.
These are the parts that I used + my garage compressor. (I ordered an ultra low noise compressor for inside the house too) Not getting any younger and plan on pressing until they plant me......LOL

From Dabpress's uTube channel: As usual, their CS was speedy to answer and very informative.

Already had a gauge:

If you don't want the air power, I highly recommend upgrading the manual pump. You will NOT regret it.

Good to see ya @Buzzer777! Ive been tossing the idea around of upgrading mine... I really would love to have one of those fancy electric pumps Low Temp Plates offers.

I cant seem to find the exact model, but this is close

Does your compressor run while in use like in the video?

I thought to myself "that'll piss everyone off in the house a 2 in the morning just trying to catch a buzz".
@Buck5050
Yes it does run at first as you raise the plates into position, but then not so much during the actual pressing, but I bought an ultra quiet smallish one just for the pressing. I have a larger compressor in the garage, but it needs a dedicated circuit, and I would have to run an air hose into the house every time I used it. It is bloody hot in the summer and fridgid in the winter in the High Sierra, so this was a better idea. This thing measures under 65db a few inches away.

I always tried to press at least 5 grams of rosin for each manual run before . Today I pressed up 15 grams and didn't even work up a sweat and never needed to go above 2500psi. Without a gauge I would have over applied the pressure since it goes up so easily and you don't feel resistance like with a hand pump.
The learning curve was much faster and easier than I suspected. You can nudge the pressure up as slowly as you wish, tic by tic. Super precise!

Update:
If you are happy with your press and are considering adding power..I say go for it. This has given my Dabpress 4x7" model a completely different feel.
It is much easier to get consistent, high quality rosin using power in place of a manual pump. Having both manual and powered pumps here, on quick disconnects, made the comparison easy. A gauge is a recommended option with them all. Powered for the win!!!!

Again; the move from the 1/4 inch 10 ton single action pump to a 3/8 inch double action 10 ton pump was a great time and labor saving move. The next step moving to power is the way to go imo. No more sore muscles for me! :ROFLMAO: (and fantastic control)

Interesting, which brand did you go with?
Wound up with the Harbor Freight 2 gallon 1 hp model. The only bad thing is a shitty 90 day warranty vs a 1 yr warranty from California Airtools. The problem with them is they seem to have lousy CS and Harbor FGT is right in town. It seems to get very good reviews and they don't seem to be phony.

In case you were watching the first utube review, they guy didn't understand how to use the pressure adjustment knob. There is an inner red colored locking ring that is loosened and tightened in order for the large black know to do the up/down adjusting while not becoming dislodged,. Typically there is no mention in their instructions.

For anyone who is having trouble with their hydraulic 10 ton pump losing pressure; this totally fixed mine in minutes before changing it out for the powered setup. I must admit struggling with mine for months until I found this . It was rock solid after applying this simple fix.
