Hi from Sudbury area!

Nice. Something tells me you'll be hearing from @Psychobilly. They say if you say "cheese" he appears.

I still battle bugs every fall, but that's after only 3 years of growing. It's that nervous time of year when I fret over caterpillars and bud rot. Well good luck, even if it's been a few years I expect you'll fall right back into it.
I was transplanting from Solo cups into the 3 gallon pots. I was bringing the second two that I had done, a few minutes tops after the first 2. Slugs had already climbed the sides of the pot and were poised to wreak havoc on my girls! Then some leaf hoppers. I just want to figuratively mean it when I say that I am smoking good shit. Oh, and the powdery mildew was a huge problem too.

That's very kind of you to offer. What kind of genetics have you been working with? I have some feminised seeds that I can buy again pretty much any time so I am not without options, just chicken-hearted for the stuff that has a description like
Dominant smell of offensive chemicals, putrid and gasoline funk with lighter notes of walnuts.

Offensive and putrid are calling out to me. 😝
I'm running some preservations for the rest of this year, and next I'll start hunting through all my Bubba Kush, in an effort to nab the best half dozen, to start breeding with.
I can get you some AK-47 and some Scooby Snacks, both originally from Premium seed Market. Both are relatively easy going, and Scooby Snacks really colors up nicely at finish, even indoors!

Ah, the ol slugs. They are literally the worst, will decimate a plant overnight. This was the first year since I've been growing outside that I didn't have issue with slugs and snails. I found some copper tape that said it was for slugs and snails. Figured it was worth a try. It seems to work. Only slugs I've seen are on plants that had other plants leaning into them. Places where the weeds were kept down I haven't had any slugs. Back in the swamp the ground is covered in slugs and snails but with the copper tape haven't had any on my plants out there. Leaf hoppers are another story. They seem to be worse during the hot periods, once the nighttime temps start to drop leaf hoppers start to disappear. Your right though there's always something that wants to take a bite out of them.

Copper is especially useful for slugs (and I'm guessing snails too, can't say that I have seen any though) I got some Copper Blocker mesh from Lee Valley. It worked a treat. Not cheap by any means but good insurance never is either. Other than bugs, I have a new neighbor that I don't trust plus I am surrounded by bush/crown land with no effective way to keep people out of my garden. Growing outside just the one year, I noticed so many more bugs that I would otherwise over a lifetime.

Welcome to the hunt @Old Man McGucket !~
Thank you Deebs! My hunt right at this moment is for information. The how, the what, the when and why. Lots to take in right now. Great place made that way by great people with common goals. Gotta love it! 👍🏻

The Scooby Snacks sounds like I would enjoy it, given the Cookies content. I am genuinely curious and I will be looking up your posts and pictures for sure. I certainly appreciate your offer of seeds. While I have those 3 Landrace Warden packs that I want to preserve and share, I will state publicly for the first time that I have a hoarding problem. My collection of seeds still fits in a smallish container but there's over 70 strains. The first step is to admit that you have a problem. Next step: pull my head out of the sand and take a deep breath. Put my nose to the grindstone and the pedal to the metal. Grow.

So yeah, long story short, I would be embarrassed to accept seeds, especially when I have enough variety to occupy my garden space for the next half dozen or more years. Your kindness and generosity are heart warming and not anything that I've seen anywhere else. Thank you! 🙏

As you can see theres no shortage of warm welcomes here. Youre in good company here @Old Man McGucket

Though Im not an outdoor guy (as my screenname implies), I do know a trick that worked amazing for keeping slugs under control in smaller gardens. Get some small cans like wet cat food cans or little plastic yogurt tubs etc, and place them around every couple feet or so at the base of plants then fill them about 1/2 full of beer. You'll wake up to those cans being full of drowned slugs by morning. Its not 100% effective but any slugs in cans means less on your plants and its *almost* free. Clean up dead slugs and refill as necessary.

Welcome mate, you've stumbled into seed addicts anonymous.

Well done on the preservation idea. Landrace warden is a pretty decent fella from all reports and the limited chats I've had with him. Comes across as a solid fella, so you've done well there. I believe his travels this season will extend to further regions and accessions.

I think you'll enjoy it here, there's no egos from what I've seen. There's some seriously talented growers and breeders in this place yet quite grounded fellas. I look forward to your grow journal and seeing some magic happen.

Cheers

Much appreciated Red! Getting the slugs drunk is an old remedy that works. Copper is great for blocking the ones that swore off the booze. 😁

Those who can, do. The others just talk trash. Looks like everyone has the same basic goal, sharing genetics and knowledge. I have a little to give and a lot to learn. I like it, lots. 👍🏻

Whoah, you are pretty hard core for tech. I just go waaaay back to my youth spent in front of a Commodore Vic 20, then C64, then Amiga 500, finally PC X86, DOS, Windows 3.1, re-installing Windows 95 every 3 months... I would say that I am only a bit of a geek in your presence...

Thanks for the link to the fishing thread and thanks a bunch for reading my post... The user community is very welcoming and helpful. I hope to be able to share some fishing adventures although I didn't even make it out once this year.

I have had good experiences with stinky stuff so I am on a quest for the nastiest or weirdest smelling flower to ring my bell. Like a personal goal to offend someone with the smell but smoke smooth and kick you in the teeth, in the nicest possible way. Some might say just an excuse to buy seeds and smoke weed. I don't like it when she nags like that. 😝
