How well will a double end 630 cmh flower a 4x4 tent ?

LOVE my CMH's for veg stage, helps the plants inner node spacing, twice life span on replacements on light bulb vs HID and a good heat source for a veg room in the winter . I use mine for "2nd stage" of my veg cycle since if I tried to use a CMH 4 seedlings or newly rooted/seedlings they would hate it . not hard to have a 1st stage like a low PPFD light or a led with dim ( use HLG 65's)

another option with CMH to get crazy coverage and be able to get closer to canopy without issues is If you use one of those light movers "light rail" and point of that is u can be closer to ur canopy and more ppfd over the whole canopy even if its only moving a few inches back and forth. I have my cmh's like that and the light can be way closer ( practically almost touching) vs non moving. get a par meter and see if u got weak spot on corners vs under light and unless u got a lot of overlight I would suggest this option.

its crazy how I have had 3 lightrail systems and not one motor or anything has been damaged or needed to in almost 10 years of use. be replaced. in fact ive seen if my stuff not balanced ( and I was being lazy) it will be strong enough to tug rail so hard it could wear out the rubber on wheels NP ( their cheap and I always bought extra's, not bad replace every 2-4 years even if on not balanced surfaces).

I got the 3.5 versions and did the "add a light" which made it so I could do (2) lights on one light rail ( I do this for my 4x8's )

I also have the option of driving my cobs harder they're luminus cobs & like vero 29 can be driven hard a pair of hlg320h 54 b drivers would give about 640 w to my cobs I'm running a pair of 240 h 54 b drivers now
Imho I'd say its really a matter of your budget and preferences. What you have looks to be doing pretty well, maybe just turn em up for now and see how that does. Or pull the trigger on that 630 DE. Myself I run a 315 cmh with a phillips 3100 bulb in between two QB panel lights. for a 4x8 I'm only using 2/3's of, so a 4x6 area I'm focusing the light on. About a 1025 watts give or take some, so around 42 watts / ft, and does really well for the girls. Using the rest of that room for soil storage atm.

Hell yesssss
At a cost of $66 I could buy another hlg 240 h 54 b driver I would be running one driver for each 2 cube @120 w per cob for a total of 720w the luminus cobs would still be below their maximum wattage timber lights runs their vero 29 cobs in their lights almost that hard I would be 10w below maximum wattage per cob or 60w below max for the 6 combined that should rock my 4x4 for the least amount of money spent

I have the option @$66 dollars of adding a 3rd hlg 240 h 54 b driver & driving my cobs @120w still below their max giving me a total of 720w for my 4x4 area that's a short term fix for the long haul I would consider another route

Sounds like a great bang for your buck. Just keep an eye on the heat they're making running that much harder, don't go burn up a cob. lol. I've done it lmfao..

@horribleherk i think that plan you just mentioned is what i would do. You will have more control over it that way.
I was wondering why you was considering the double ended 630 over the dual single end style?
Supposedly double end works better but the downside is you're limited in bulb selection where with the 2 bulb fixture you would have options you've raised a legit question

Yeah and with the two single ended bulbs they can be a different spectrum, so that may be a plus as well. But i admit i do love my LEDs but have seen great results with two 315 cmh in a 4x4.

I've switched to led because of the cheaper operating cost but I've always had a fascination with the cmh

The main reason I've been eyeballing cmh is because I've never ran one & see people getting good results & I cant argue with the fact they have a cult like following

So I've been looking at light rails recently. Does this allow you to cut down on the number of lights you need to cover a larger amount of space? I've seen studies that say a plant doesn't need a constant high intensity of light throughout the day to grow well.. which makes sense because you're not getting constant high intensity outdoors in most cases.
