Hit the dam for the first time in months. Saw a behemoth sitting behind some weeds waiting for easy lunch. I decided to throw my biggest glide bait past her and she instantly started attacking it. Missed it twice at my feet in the 8, finally took a bite and when i set the hook, the leader sliced off on her gill or something. So friggin bummed. I hate hate hate when something like that happens. Lost my favorite glide bait and gave that fish a shitty afternoon. Packing up and heading home.

Bummer and yep so deflating at times .
It’s why I usually make up all my own rigs to avoid exactly that . Sometimes though it still happens regardless . The fishing gods will always give a percentage of escape possibility to the fish which does make it all the sweeter when you do land that big Poomba we’ve all being waiting for 👊🏻

Dude it was a freak accident I swear: and I was just about to start my day without thinking about it finally…. Thanks bro 😭

Let’s link and fish the big lake this year for sure. I’ll show you how to musky

Musky are awesome. I LOVE their coloration and all around attitude they have. Personally, my ideal way of actually landing one, would probably be the gear I already have, but very specifically set up:

I don't think I'd worry about which Rod I'd use, but I know I'd want my Penn Fathom for the Reel (The retrieve rate on those are NICE) and then I'd go with the 100 pound test clear mono Leader line I have, and then for hooks, I think I'd use the Mustad "Beak" hooks, or some Gamakatsu Octopus Hooks (both are really similar, REALLY sharp, and very forgiving on hooksets) and I'd likely use a "Stinger rig" because I'd choose a live Carp or Sucker for bait. Stinger rig would help with hookup if they decided to nail the head or the tail, and then hopefully, the huge mono line would hold. We have the Saint Clair River where people on TV come to find them, so I'm pretty sure the water here is plenty good enough, but my inability to target them generally means I don't catch any. To really find them, and be able to look for them, a boat is a big deal, and I don't have one. Sort of like how I haven't ever landed a Flathead; I can't cast out far enough to their "holes" but, I won't stop trying anyway.

For sure bro...Never actually musky fished..ide love to catch one..I'm actually pretty close now to the hot spot where they spawn up thru the river in Fremont..Second half of March they start slamming walleye right off the banks..Ya have to make it for a day of that..My dad got one on the wall from that same spot slightly under 15lbs.. Easy to go limit out over there with no boat needed

BET. I also want you to show me the ropes to throwing my lil boat into the big pond. Never been up there with a boat to my own device. The good ol' boys I bought it from said they took it every year.

Hopefully the stressful part of your move is behind you now, and you can enjoy getting yourself all set up....holla when you're settled!

You can get one from shore, you just have to obsess and spend tons of time chucking big baits. I honestly haven't caught on from a boat yet. But I'm sick, and I have spent a lot damn time learning how to get them to eat.

I'm buying a van or truck soon, and I'll make my way up there and get you out on some damn water this year billy. I want to fish the saint clair for sure, and I also haven't caught a big catfish for a while.

I have an old book from like the 90s that has a section on Musky. According to that book, you can even catch them at night. I guess it makes sense, given their incredible vision, and ability to nail something much like a Walleye would. They also seem to prefer pretty cool water too. The book states that if you can find a feeder stream that leads to the river, and if that stream is cooler than the river is, you can nail some by aiming for the part where the stream starts entering the river, as the slightly cooler temps draw them in.

You ever seen the Tiger Musky we have ?? I'm not sure if they are in your area too, but MAN they are PRETTY! I've also seen fottage of a Platinum Musky.... BRIGHT pure White....SO pretty bro!

That river isn't far from where the Wife and I grew up :) We do pretty well on Walleye when we go back there to fish sometimes, right from shore. The Catfish, I'd personally take you to the house so we can walk into to one of my main spots. Channel Cats and even Sheapshead / Drum are all on the prowl through there. Some good Cut bait is the go to for landing those :) And since it's near the house, we of course bring weed to smoke while we wait for a bite :)

Sorry for the delay on things everyone, been feeling a lil under the weather lately. I will start working on the Photo lineup for the final picture comp. voting this coming week. I also am about 3/4 the way through flowering out 2 of the 3 crosses I made for this thread. So far, so good, and I'm getting excited to put together the participation boxes.

Ok sorry again for the delay. Luckily we are all anglers here and grow from seed....patience a plenty.

I have been doing construction again along with helping with my girls floral co., so things have been moving pretty quickly around here for me. I should have some time today to get all of the pictures in order and get this thing moving along.

I managed to get two of the crosses that I want to include with the participation pack, to the finish line and I'm pretty satisfied with the results.

Hopefully this thread will come to an end soon because it's about time to start a new one for 2024. I plan on picking another male and making some new crosses this summer....maybe we can make a tradition out of it.
