Sonoran Survivors 2022

Decided at the beginning of the year to use up a 10pk of Mandala Kalichakra freebies.
Upon opening the tube, there were actually 8 seeds, and of the eight, 7 ultimately we're males...?

The lone lady has been doing good - just seems thirstier than most others. Took two Kalichakra males that performed best inside a while back and collected pollen. Brought the lady into a spare room today (different room, and far away from Jalalabad) for a single branch pollination. Just wanting the option to grow again in the future if it's a good one.

That's awesome, love the name. The description sounds like something I would enjoy. Hoping you succeed.

I'm just needing a scrawny desert mantis.

The ones up North would be a problem for my wife and her hummers... ???

Nah they'd be fine. We have Humming Bird feeders too that the Wife makes a "Simple Syrup" to fill them with, and since the back is surrounded by the woods they come in, drink some of that, hit a few of the flowers, and off they go :) We have them here naturally and my cousin and I used to catch them when we were younger and try to keep one as a pet LOL.

Decided to corral the Jalalabad girls inside to hopefully pollenate for a more sincere future effort.
Had intentions of up-potting them earlier, but it just didn't happen this year.
Was surprised when examining tags that there was a third plant buried amongst a bunch of other things.
Took them into the dining room Sunday afternoon, with the main colas covered - will try to just get that pollen on the lesser branches.

This week is crushing me, but I HAVE to post a quickie update before saying sayonara to a plant today.
One of the cheapo tan 3gal bags is being gifted to a favorite Trader Joe's Clerk in about an hour.

With all my previous whining of attempted growing and struggling outdoors down here in the desert,
I do have a champion (there are others) that took everything without a blip.

Say hello to "Blobby Hill" from @Dino Party . A little more to finish, but I'm declaring it an official Sonoran Survivor.
Initially popped a couple (the plastic pot and white 5gal RainScience bag), but being fems - made a mid summer decision to give a couple as gifts (we'll see how that goes"

Group shot, and just a couple tops below:

Heat has backed off, and now I'm chasing sunlight just a bit.
Moved quite a few plants to a single spot in the yard.
A couple of longer flowering plants and some autos are off in another spot.
There's a few getting close, but nothing quite yet.

Had intentions of up-potting a few of these, but got a little overwhelmed with life.
I knew going into this year that my dad was in decline, but he had been given a predicted timeline that was to end Feb 2023.
Assistance kind of just bled into caregiving without any real defined line, which made getting help kind of difficult.
Glad I did what I did, but Aug/Sept was a rough one for us, including an older sister that really stepped up big time.
Will definitely be able to put more into things next year.
Nothing to be sad about (he had ALS), but last week Thursday was his last.
Onward.

My friend, I’m very sorry to hear about your loss. My sincere condolences. It is extremely tough to lose a loved one, let alone your dad. May he rest in peace, and may you find solace in the things that find you peace and comfort. Such as this wonderful plant we all love. ?

Sorry to hear about that bud. I remember when my dad passed and the weeks and months that followed. Grief was strange, it would come and go in waves. Please remember to take care of yourself, it gets easy to let things slip away. I'm always just an inbox away, I encourage you to reach out if you would ever like converse about this further. I appreciate all you've done for me, and my heart is with your family today. Rest easy Dad.

@spyralout , @Hugh Jass , @Dino Party

Thanks very much, Gents.

A week in, and I'm starting to get my bearings.
I'm thankful for him that he didn't have to grind out that typical (brutal) last stage of ALS
A lot of trust and respect was established between my sister and I, and I'm hopeful that wrapping things up for his estate will go as smooth as possible.

Will hit you up in the IG DM for sure @Dino Party - no sad talk, though. We're just overdue ???
