Vertical DIY LED recirculating hydro... thing

omg I love it, feels like a space ship with everything circulating around the round bulb in the middle :D. Similar to old school hanging the bare bulbs but more scrogging vertical? Looks cool!

Yessiree!
(It's more a SOG than SCROG, technically, I guess. They're all tiny plants in 1/2 gallon AC Infinity fabric pots)
I've been a resident of Vertville for years, since watching and learning from the mastery of folks like Heath Robinson, and Dead Head Fred, back in the day.

I'm slowly tuning it back to where I had it, and better. Finally got the LEDs back in. Next thing to do will be getting the water automated again, cuz hand watering in these tight spaces sucks ass!

I also need to get enough plants going at all times to keep the damn thing full. I'm almost half full now, but looking forward to getting to where you can't see the tent behind all the green.
I've got a cloner full waiting to root, but there will still be a bunch of bean poppin going on soon too. I actually need to send some swimming tonight!

Thanks for stopping by!

Got a few more plants moved into flower last night.
My last 4 Mango Hashplants by Bodhi, and the shorter stragglers from last round. One of each, Headband b.s., Sour Banana x Garlic Breath, and Grape Marmalade x Garlic Breath by Freak.
The MHs are bottom row of the rear rack, and the others went to the bottom row of the right side rack.

Tent shot:

Sounds epic man !!!

Man, I just hope it takes. The pollen has been sitting semi openish, drying for a few weeks. Hopefully the conditions haven't spoiled it already. They're also hit slightly late, at about 5.5 wks, but they're bottom branches, so I can let em cook longer if needed.

I've been thinking of names, in case they do work out. I think I've got some for the PIB crosses, but still working on the Tropical Zombie ideas.
The first name for PIB x SS4 that popped into my head was pretty straight forward, but the PIB x (Stardawg x Runaway Bride) took a few more seconds and slightly lower brow thinking.
They're not written in stone, but in the next few days, I should know if I can look forward to harvesting seeds of "Sunswine 4" and "Farmer's Dirty Daughter" ;)

I've also got a couple males of Grape Marmalade x Garlic Breath set aside at the moment, along with a PIB, and a Mango Hashplant that just showed and was segregated tonight.

Pollen from those will probably dust the other GM x GB, the Sour Banana x GB, Headband bagseeds, Mango Hashplants, or whatever's available when the pollen is...

I still owe you reports on the first round of the GM x GB and SB x GB testers, I think.
I'll dig the pics out eventually, but they definitely weren't to the standard of most Freak gear out there. (But that's obviously my fault, not yours!)
The good news is, they took a bunch of different stress tests like champs, and not a nanner! They also still came out smelling and tasting really nice, even if they weren't much to look at.
They battled through flood, drought, mites, mildew, gnats, and still gave a nice enough smoke and yield.

I ended up with 1 female GMxGB, and 2 SBxGB the first round. One of the SBxGB was like a strawberry banana smell and taste, and the other was lighter, more banana.
The GMxGB was just awesome smelling though, and I'm hoping to find her again in the next 2 plants. She was a slight grape at first smell, but the end of the scent was an overpowering acetone finish. I tried making F2s, but don;t think I got any, or many, anyway.

But! This second round of those GB testers are doing great, and should be much better examples in a few weeks. I'm hoping I can do ya proud this round ;)

Speaking of new beans, I'm looking forward to checking out those new Cinnamon Rollz fems, if you still have any around... There were at least a couple that sounded really mouthwatering!
Plus, once in a while, it'd be nice to not have to remove males from the flower tent, as fun as making new beans is...

MacGydro

Gum Wrapper Grows
The last round of males removed, included one of the 2 Tropical Zombies I had going, as well as 2 GM x GB, and a Skunky VA x Orange Julius.
I didn't really want to use the Skunky VA cross male, so I chopped those, but the Grape Marmalade I was definitely saving. I also figured I'd save the Tropical Zombie for at least F2s, since they were my last 2 of the strain. So, they sit off to the side, in bad light for a few days, waiting in line.

I check on them to move them around, and I see that I judged the Tropical Zombie too soon. She was popping pistils now, and not balls like I first thought.
The poor gal sat in shitty light for like a week!
She's back in the main tent now, trying to catch up to her big sis, so there won't be any F2s made. I'm sure she'll catch some kinda dust in the next week or 2 though.
Donor possibilities may include SS4 and SD x RAB, if viable, or GM x GB, or Mango Hashplant, if they're ripe enough to drop by then.

I actually thought 8 out of 9 were boys that round, but thankfully waited for most of them to prove me wrong. It ended up being 5/9 gals instead.

Welp, 1 step forward, 2 steps back...
The garden has been a real kick in the dick lately.
Two whole beans sprouted from the last swim session, 2 fuckin weeks ago, and now it looks like the driver in the flower tent has decided to retire itself.
The lights will blink a few time when it's plugged in, then maybe stay on for a bit, maybe not. Pretty sure the driver's bad, but don't really know.
At least I still have an old 1k for backup, I guess?

I think I'm glad I'm not quite that sensitive!

The biggest full body buzz I can remember wasn't from electricity, though...
It was when I thought I could pick up skating again at 35, and bounced my skull off a curb, trying to step the board up from street to sidewalk...
After grinding and sliding Hart Plaza just fine minutes earlier lol
That shit was full body pins n needles for a minute or two!

(Not me, just Hart Plaza...and someone who can actually skate. I was skating down below, in the background area, for the story above.)
Please stop encouraging me to hop on my longboard. I can’t afford another hospital bill 😂 you know I never could ollie let alone grind. Maybe it’s cuz of that big ass oldskool cheap ass Powell Peralta knockoff Ninja board w all the hardware. Then again, I couldn’t do it even w the more “modern” design boards. You’re way ahead of me I’m just a poser lol 😂

I took the liberty of changing your title from CHOOSE YOUR OWN to Gum Wrapper Grows in homage to the time MacGyver used the foil wrapper from a stick of gum to fix a fuse lmao 🤣 years later much to my chagrin the Big Red and Doublemint gum wrappers were made of “foil” lined wrappers 😕 ruined over a decade of childhood lol. Just LMK if you’d like a different title.

Similar to old school hanging the bare bulbs
Oh man I did that a few years ago w some CMH. Hunching and stepping over shit in the tent, my arm felt hot so I yanked it away, hitting the notepad I was carrying into it. I got out to check everything out and I had burned a hole in my T-shirt sleeve (it was a sports shirt type of material so it essentially melted) and a piece of notepad paper that had a burnt hole. Glutton for punishment, I had a bare bulb CMH in the next run’s bedroom tent. At least it was just one bulb not 3 lol 😂 I used old scavenged HPS sockets w CMH adapters how’s that for ya @MacGydro?:watchingyou:

The longboard seems like a way safer, and more chill option, especially with those push sticks, or even the electric ones I see people cruising around on.

I'd love to street skate still, but my balance just isn't anything like it used to be, as I've found out multiple times 🥴
I'd need all the padding too, and have to look like a real nerd out there, cuz I'm not trying to heal an elbow or ass bone for a year!
It sucks too, because now it seems like there's a legit city built park like every mile or so around here. I think the closest I could find growing up was in like...Pennsylvania LOL

Powell Peralta was my brand too! Always rocked their boards. Here were a few of my favs:

The funky shaped Tony Hawk Claw deck, from '89- I had the black one:

be778fd6991e67b048dcb9cdd552196c.jpg

The Tony Hawk Medallion deck, from 1990:

364c93a594bec0231e3fa1cafff0a21c.jpg

...And the last board I ever got new. Frankie Hill Bulldog deck, 1990....

DCPMFHBD09.jpg

...I got it for Christmas, was so pumped, and couldn't wait for weather to get better, so I could ride more!
Then some older kid on a bike caught me with the old "hey, can I check out yer board??" trick, and rode off into the sunset with it. Crushed my will to skate from then on out.
I do have a couple more modern boards around here somewhere, though, and those little "pump parks", or whatever they're called, are pretty tempting. I should be able to just go over some little humps and not bust my head, right??

I hate being back on HPS for flower lighting! The possibilities of melting my arm, or head while trying to water in a tight ass tent just sucks. The possibility of the light exploding with a drop of water sucks likewise.
The extra heat, power bill, the burned buds, the GPW cut in half...Suck, suckity, suckage...I want my LED back!!😭
Just gotta replace, or fix, if possible, the power supply, no big deal :ROFLMAO:

Oh, and I don't see any difference in my title, if that's what you meant. Still just says "Choose your title".

Sick pieces of nostalgia. I grew up poor so my parents could only afford the knockoff Ninjas while the rich kids rode Vision, Powell, Santa Cruz. A lot would make fun of me but the ones that always encouraged me to ride were the true skaters that had that open minded skater mentality. IDK if anyone could do some of the tech tricks on the old boards these guys pull off these days w the modern boards. As for the pump parks, fkn go for it man, you’d definitely wanna nerd out or at least get a Hawk Helmet lol 😂

I liked the bud fatness on HPS but I didn’t get as many trichs as LED. CMH got a totally different bud, ones that a lot of folks I knew actually preferred, I called em “fuzzy trichs” cuz they look like a carpet of trichs almost like squiggly long trichs. The buds smoked better than HPS. Then came the “let’s try ALL THE LIGHTS” experiments, multiple 20 amp circuits installed, 3000+ watts from the walls, etc…and of course the crazy electric bills and heat that all came along w it. If I ever get a chance to go back indoors again it’ll be under much more tame circumstances lol.

Check your title now. I must’ve forgotten to hit save in between hits lol

Does it have a dimmer? Mine was acting up and it was all the dimmer knob F'ing off.

Dimmers have been the issue the last couple times. I replaced them with what I thought were better ones, but I've now had to remove the newer one in veg already just recently, actually. So, I think the "better" ones might've been worse than the first ones, and not even lasted as long.
But, I haven't removed this one and tried yet. I'll do that tomorrow, cuz it's the easiest fix.
When they went the last times, they just got dimmer. It wasn't super noticeable, since I visit every day, but eventually, I was like "Something's not right here". When I removed them, they got noticeably brighter.
I guess if I remove the dimmer, and it just pops on, and stays on, that should tell me well enough?
I have a Killawatt meter, but not sure where my multimeter is.
Thanks for stopping in and helping! (y)

I thought mine was looking a bit weak, and it flickered between bright n not so bright in front of me while I was inspecting.
Kilowatt verified it was only getting 210ish on a 480 driver. Cut off the dimmer and it went full power again.
For now I just adjust the light higher for any dimming. Lol
Worth a try imho, it's a free solution if it works. Lol

Man, I keep trying to remember Ninja, but keep picturing Nash, (Cuz of the saw blade / ninja star looking logo), which we had as well.
I think we had Ninjas too though. They came along later than the old cheap Nash, right?
I wish we were the rich kids though- I could've just told my folks my board got stolen, and they'd get me a new one
I did get a half pipe from a rich kid one time though, and that made me real popular with the other/older skate kids!

You could probably do most of the newer tricks with the boards above. They're about the first generation of upturned noses that functioned like the tails, I think. Those new tricks, and skaters are ridiculous though. I always liked street style the most, then freestyle, and ramp / vert stuff last.
I tried to make my own board in like 5th grade, and of course, I couldn't give it any concave belly or tail, so I just slapped some grip tape on, and called it a "freestyle board" lol

So, I ended up stopping by one of the local parks tonight after all...and I only biffed twice...without a board!
I realized a couple things tonight:
It's hard to get up a 6ft pool wall on a 29 inch mountain bike. 49% of your weight, and 1 foot planted over the lip just won't cut it.
And, it doesn't take much of a slide down a concrete pool wall to sand an elbow down a layer or two of skin.
I'm constantly amazed how easily I bleed, and how long it takes to heal, as I get older 🥴

It was actually a nice ass park. There was a pump track around the edge, but the middle was like 5 or 6 pools honeycombed within each other.
Here's a bad night pic:

IMG_4692Skatepark.JPG

I wish I had the space and means to run 3k, but I'd definitely have to do it LED. All the negatives mentioned above are just too many for me. Burning 2 buds the first night was enough for me, so I'm really hoping @JL2G is right, and it's the easy, obvious fix. That LED running wide open is like 520w or something, and it's sooo much easier to deal with than dodging a 1k branding session when checking the gals in back lol

I see the title change now, and I think it works pretty well- Most times, I feel like my grow is held together with gum wrapper, chewed gum, and luck (y)

Side (Grow) note:

Pollinated 3 Sour Banana x Garlic Breath, and 1 Grape Marmalade x Garlic Breath gals with Mango Hashplant and Grape Marmalade x Garlic Breath pollen.
Hopefully I'll get a few...

Also have Headband bagseeds to pollinate next, followed by Mango Hashplant gals, and the next round of above strains again.

Wasn’t trying to imply you were rich just all the rich kids around here had the cool gear. Yes Ninja came after Nash which was highly made fun of along w Variflex. Ninja was a cheap swap meet special. Some ppl that worked at the packing house my mom worked at would bring all kinda cheap knockoff stuff (which ironically, was better than the lame quality stuff that is out today, everything except the skate stuff lol). I wanted a T&C Surf Designs shirt so bad and kids had whole collections of em. Shit I still want a T&C shirt lol 😆 I had to settle for just one Hobie shirt that I wore until I grew out of it. And your own personal half pipe? Nice. Closest I got to that was my GF’s parent’s pool had to be drained and replastered so we’d putz around in there, no Hawk n Burnquist tricks drop ins or anything. And that was in my late 20’s still posing away after I rediscovered skating for a bit. Things like guitar n playing basketball all took over. I still got that skater mentality at heart though 💙

Oh man, I loved the T&C shirts and game... and Sk8 or Die!!...Then 720 when it came along. I remember playing 720 at the roller rink arcade, but played the other 2 on Nintendo. What a flashback!
Now I wanna play those all again!

I had forgotten about Variflex too lol....Yeah, we had the whole spectrum, just like anyone who's gone through the hobby, I'd imagine. Good times!
I'm wanting more and more to try and start again, but I would definitely have to nerd up, and only practice at night, so I don't bust my ass in front of a bunch of kids- Or worse, bust one of their asses with a runaway board, or body,
I never got the balls to ride pools, or ramps much. My younger brothers did more pipe stuff on snow and skate board. They also broke more bones on both though lol
I was always more of a street trick guy. (Snowboarding, I loved those long slow trails that criss crossed the mountain, with downed trees here and there)

I'd love to play guitar, or even know music in general, but sports were never my thing, other than skating, snowboarding, and disc golf lol
