What and how many drivers would I need to run these?

Looking at buying a bunch of THESE LED strips, building the frame and blah blah blah. Can any of you help me / point me towards resources to figuring out the driver power I'd need to run a couple 4x4's with those? looking to do 2 in my 4 x 8. I appreciate any help, thanks!

Here's a couple that can work. How many watts do you want to run? How many strips is it you ordered?

8 of those strips would work pretty perfect on one of these wired in series. But you'd have to use 300v min rated wire. So two of em for a 4x4.

One of these in parallel wiring setup would run 16 of those strips. Youd have to adjust the min V control screw down to where you want it though, 38.3V, and then wire in a dimmer to use for usage adjustment.

Thanks for the reply. For the 2nd option, would I need to do all that as well if I ran it with 12 strips? was thinking of getting the 24 pack and using 12 per 4x4 section. What would you do personally?

I'll look and see what driver setup would work for 12. I was picking 30 watts a sq ft for a 4x4 as my number to hit, which is the 480 #.

That sounds good. I really need to read into the basics of LEd tonight, I’ve been a HID guy this whole time and this is confusing me lol.

These would be for CC series wiring setup.

Three of these powering 4 strips each.
Series wiring.
Can be the B ending model # as well.

Or two of these with 6 each using series wiring.
Can be the B ending model # as well.

A 320 will almost run 12 of them, but not quite. Lol. Max amps limits it.
There doesn't seem to be a single compatible driver I've found to run 12 of them. Lol.

This is for parallel wiring, a bit more work, but not much.
I would use two of these drivers for 6 of them per driver using parallel wiring design.

But it also depends on what can be available in the timeframe you need it.

I can do more of em. Lol.

I'm pretty knowledgeable about any of the wiring design, simple to complex. Can work out many driver pairings, I just kept the drivers I suggested to be a simpler wiring design usage.
Feel free to rack my brain for anything.
Led gardener does some really good intro vids to watch and get the understanding of wiring.

Here's a good link showing series and parallel wiring setups. Ignore that he's using cobs as the example, the wiring principles are the same.

reading through this right now, thanks a lot, really breaking it down into dumdum talk for dumdum's like me.

So I think I'm gonna run 10 of those strips per frame, then power them with one of these per. https://www.alliedelec.com/product/mean-well-usa/hlg-320h-42a/70387577/ . This is what nube has been reccomending to me, at least. and I really like what he's been showing me.

Yep, for 10 of em that's a perfect fitting driver.
The A models are bad ass imho. Allows a bit more power out of the drivers, and will let you set the top end limit and FV with the internal pots.
Personally I like the AB model a bit better. Let's you use the main set screws put right how you want em dialed in, and let's you wire in a pot for the dimmer.
Best of both worlds.

so, is there an equilivent AB model vs the A model I just shared? sounds like it would be nice to have the dimmer option on it. I believe I'm gonna run in in conjunction with the cloudline T6 so I will have better control over temps and humidity than I currently do. Thanks!

Driver: www.alliedelec.com/product/mean-well-usa/hlg-320h-42a/70387577/

Lights: BXEB-L1120Z-27G4000-C-C3 in Tray by Bridgelux | Light Engines | Future Electronics

Frame: Locally sourced 1x1 aluminum angle, with plastic washers and normal hardware.

Wago Connectors: How to Use Wago Connectors? (not the shop just the product in the link)

so my question, I need wires to connect it all, and then a cable to plug in from the driver to the wall, correct? is there any special cable I will need to go from the driver to the first LED board? I'd just hate to order the wrong shit and be unable to return it with today's conditions. Thanks!

A bit late getting an answer back to you. Been swamped and didn't get the notification for this thread. πŸ˜•πŸ˜•πŸ˜•
You'll want to use 18 gauge wire for it.
Not thermostat wire though, the insulation is quite weak on it. Usually depot or lowes only carry 16 gauge, which is better, but a bit overkill.
Can be solid core or stranded wire.
If it's stranded make sure to tin the wire ends for where it goes into the wagos.
Personally I prefer a soldered and heat shrunk connection rather than wagos.
The stuff I like has 300v rating, and silicone shearing on the outside. Really strong stuff and decent priced. I buy it by the 100ft spool usually.

For the driver, it's the exact same model # but has an AB after the 42, not just an A.
HLG-320H-42AB
Dimmer pot for one driver is 100k, for two drivers on one dimmer you'd use a 50k.

Most of them need a power cord attached too.
I like to use 3 prong power tool replacement cords.
They come like 8 ft long and good to go with ready to use leads.

this is the datasheet that I found on the page, it was pretty hidden away.
Thanks... I like the idea of running the same brand diode throughout the board. Alot of the qbs on the market right now are using different brand far reds and some even have .5w 3000k chips and 3w far red chips. doesnt make much sense to me...seems like its not as efficient as it should be.

Are you familiar with the "hiccup" mode MW features in some of their drivers? I have noticed if I overdrive my xlg-240-h-ab above 250w... it will shut itself down randomly throughout the day.... I havent run into this in other my other version driver... Is there a workaround?
