Ok, yesterday was a bust.
Had to repair a bursted water pipe at our assymbly, had to help someone clear a 1/4 mile of dirt road so they could get out. Driving the Kabota was fun i guess.
And then an hour shoveling snow here at home.
I was beat!
But today,,, seeds be getting planted, tommorrow starts the first quarter of moon cycle this month.

My wife wants more garden after last year so she is in training. First round of lettuce transplants on left, a round of instruction, then she did the ones on the right.

I'm focusing on strawberries from seed this year and some ancho and cyanne peppers.

I get outside around mid may.

Its alwsys great when the wife gets interested.
Weve never tried strawberries from seed.
Transplanting lettuce can be a challenge. I sure like this part of the season.

Culling out some of the lettuce. I have been keeping the area warmer at night for the strawberries and the blackseeded simpson and buttercrunch varieties seem to not be hadeling that well, romaine, arugula and the freebie red lettuce from baker creek seem to be handeling it better.

Some of the peppers have started budset too, transplanted and popping the preflowers off to slow them down. I think I need to bump day length a tad too, mostly for the berries.

Unfortunately my t5 fixture is eating lamps at an unprecedented rate. They are old but some don't have that many hours on them. Mostly the off brand ones but it also seems to be most prevalent on 2 of the 8 sockets. Time to go shopping for 8 new lamps or a new fixture?

This is a fun time of gardening!
Our tomatoes are on their 3rd true leaves now and the brussel sprouts and cabbage have nice growth already too.

Our lights are on 13 hours now, they think they are in Mexicali.

I have bought my last 3 T5 fixtures on fleabay. You can get a 6 tube 6500k setup for around $130.00 if ya shop around.

We are going to spend the whole day today since its going to be in the 70's in the greenhouse and tilling our garden for the season.
We have 35 cu ft of HF/OF we need to spread out over the garden first this morning. We already spread 10 bales of peat. We also have 2 used of our 6ft smart pot bags we'll fill up for potatoes.

HTG has 4 lamp ones for 69 right now with agromax lamps, can choose different ones and for extra get hortilux. They have a warehouse in Denver so its almost local.

On a whim I took one of the bulbs I thought was burnt, put it in a good socket and it lit up. New ballasts will fix it and there's a good chance I didn't actually burn up 10 lamps.

I hate buying into the throw away society but its not easy when the replacement ballasts are 49 bucks each (takes 2).

Probbably pick up the ballasts tomorrow.
