Jar wash testing

When I was reading on the subject of making bubble hash last night I came across test washing. Which is putting weed in a jar with cold water and ice and shaking it up. The green rises to the top, the trichomes sink to the bottom to be filtered. They call it "test" washing to find out if a strain is suitable enough to produce adequate bubble hash.

Has anyone ever done this?

Mostly for fresh frozen use about 10 grams fresh frozen bud Shake for 10min Let it rest. I’m still not keen on the amounts if she’s good or not but I understand the method. I guess you could do this with dried bud I would just wash an oz of dried to test wash instead of mason jar tech. Just my two cents.

I'm going to try to it and post my results.

From my understanding some strains are better than others when it comes to making bubble, it has to do with trichome size.. Some strains are "dumpers" and make excellent bubble others not so much, that's what the test wash is for without sacrificing larger amounts of bud in a regular wash.

I'd try the method you suggested I just don't have bubble bags yet. I'll sacrifice about 7-10 grams in the name of science.

Should I cut the bud up or use popcorn nugs? What I read is that you can keep smalls whole during the test wash.

Dried is all all I have. What's the difference?

I did end up buying bubble bags, just some cheap ones to test out.

Well more plants tend to wash better dried as you progress you could do half dried frozen (zombie). It’s a small percentage that will wash well fresh frozen.

I have a bunch of dried trim so i guess that's what i'll use. Thanks for all the help man, I appreciate it.

I just think the mason jar tech is so you can tell if she washes before you freeze a whole plant and get back a 2% return. I don’t like trying to get less than a gram of bubble off them screens and the tiny test wash would be about a dabs worth.

If it’s dried I just send it with an oz cause that brings back about 4-5 grams if she washes good. Easier to play with and process for drying.

Do you consider it worth the time and investment for the amount of flower used and the return in hash?

Are there other better ways out there for producing hash/concentrate that don't cost an arm and a leg?

Bubble is about the cheapest most cost effective way with the work involved unless you want to open blast some oil but I don’t have much experience in that.

You spend some time making bubble then get a press and work with rosin.That is unless you are a into dabbing and want to jump in with both feet and a fat wallet.

Or just press flower rosin. There are a few different paths you could go down.

Been there, man what a bust. I wasted an obscene amount of my outdoor 87' sour apple limepop cross one year.

Gave it a shake now I'm waiting on it to settle. The water turned dark purple from the bud, it may look brown in the pic but it's not. I used about a quarter of dried trim and two grams of bud I chopped up.

Some of it has already settled. My plan is to sieve out the plant material and dump the trichomes through a coffee filter.
