14 weeks of veg basically, finally showing sex. Looks like we have our answer @JL2G photo period doesn't seem relevant to plant sexing at least for this one imo.

No. 1 got some damage from being overgrown. I'll prune 2 and 4 a bit harder next go. For now I am curious to see if this stalls them at all or if it was the topping that shifted the hormones back to non alternating nodes.

So my first assumption was pretty close. That the plants on its own timeline, just doing its thing. Wonder how long it's going to take starting flowers.
Now my next wondering would be is would it still be doing the same if left at a higher light hrs on being equatorial. And would it flower under the same lighting automatically?

I've had at least one that i noticed go back to parallel nodes after a topping.
Have also noted that a topped plant takes much longer to show sex.

These crop steerining opportunities / comparison between varietals could be capstone projects in master's thesis programs, I hardly have the resources to finish this landrace / tropical heirloom as some sort of viable harvest.

The clones have restarted alternating nodes and 5/6 are basically hitting the light in their small cabinet. They are currently veging under 13/11.

The fresh set of cuts may or may not root but I am going to move the clones to the flower tent anyway because I don't want to top them. I should have plenty of opportunity to take more.

I think the longer light hours impacts the growth habit in ways that make the plant more difficult to grow. More floppy and lateral growth vs. vertical. Aside from that I think it's reasonable to assume there is some sort of threshold hours that would produce what we consider viable flower. I think it's important to keep on mind the purpose of the ancestral relatives of this line was for rope.

When I did 10/10 I saw tighter flowers and faster finish. A recent paper found the same was true for a few different schedules, shorter daylight = faster finish and more compact flower. I think there's a bunch of anecdotal support for reducing the dli at the end of flower to do the same.

I won't take the authority to run these under 10/10 at this point but if y'all want me to, I will.

No. 5 is actually a boy. That makes 3 boys, 3 girls. I think we can call this week 1 of flower with 2 weeks transition for the plants in the bed. The clones were moved in a couple days ago and are still vegging. I hope this gives the girls time to set enough flowers before the boys are dumping.

I chopped the males out of the bed since bringing in the cuts. That has made the canopy much more manageable.

Week 3 for bed, call it week 1+ for the males and females in containers.
Furthest along female plant no. 1 was one of the first to show sex

Been increasing ppfd a little in hopes of knocking back the stretch. Currently 5-700 and I have a little more than a foot left to raise the light. The container plants should be fine but I'd hate to chop the bed plants at this point, been a workout.

Week 4 flower - pollen dropping
20240331_164857.jpg 20240331_164902.jpg 20240331_165321.jpg
Tucked the taller branches under the net after the pics, no. 6 was the slowest so far for the females and really wants to stretch. No. 5 just started dropping for the boys. Could probably stand to go 4-6 weeks with the girls before introducing the boys.

I don't see any reason not to finish out the girls, thinking about chopping this male, it was the first to start dropping, also thinking I want to try any seeds it might be carrying...

Scratching my head what to do regards to the preservation project, assitance appreciated.

Need to give the females a good look for any wonkieness. Will be watching the other boys, if one stays "stable" then I may do a personal chuck.

I did oder a recyling interval timer a few days ago and will get the clones on a 20hr day when it arrives.

That's rough man 👊 just remember things happen for a reason. Everything will come together 👌

Yup.

I will now.

I'm out of room in the tent and still have months to go. The intersex boy will come down today, propbably the suspect one and possibly the entire tent. I'd like to keep the container females.

I'll pay for the replacement seeds if anyone has an issue and wants to step up.

Call it round 3

The suspect males(s) yet to be culled. Clones will not be taken, I need the space for Afgaan90.

Thanks in advance for your understanding.

The males were pulled, No. 2 was the intersex one. The other 2 looked stable, the suspicious parts on the one were the stems from pollen sacs that had dropped off, no calyx associated with them. All dropped a significant amount of pollen.

The females in the bed looked stable but were chopped, the cuts in containers all have receeded pistils and are being kept for now. If they show sign of instability I'll likely abandon the entire project. Decided I won't be doing cuts of Afgaan90 after all and will keep the rest of the MB cuts for a bit

Call it week 5? for these. Transplanted No.1 and No.6, didn't want to pull them from the net so...

Although it hasn't been as long as I thought, those roots look pretty week for being in those pots 4+ weeks.

No. 3 is still in its container and will probably stay there.

The interval timer I ordered arrived today after usps said it was delivered over a week ago I think?? I'll plug it in and see if I can get the clones on an 18hr day.
