I ordered some horticulture Sulfur powder. On week 3F I always take a long gutter spike (nail) and poke several holes through my soil and mix worm castings and epsom salt together and force down the holes with a funnel and feed water. On one plant (purist indica) Im gonna juice this up with some of the sulphur powder and see how much it changes from the others. I think this strain is perfect because they all seem to be so uniform in growth and stem rub ( I know that doesn't mean much). If it does make a difference then Im gonna repeat my next round with the skunk #1 from AGseeds. Either way I'm just glad to be back on here with all you great folks to share in our passion.

This is an interesting theory. Sulfur is mostly used in Ag to lower PH and you can over do it.....so be careful with that.

Sulfur is a component of four amino acids and is therefore critical for protein formation. It is also a component of certain glycosides that give pungency to mustard family crops (greens, cole crops) and Allium crops (onions, garlic....(u of del)

It's all in the glycosides.......but it is interesting that they give pungency to those crops. You might be on to something.

Ph is a concern. That's why I wanna use it directly with the epsom salt. From what I understand the magnesium is used to help facilitate the transport of nutrients to roots faster. So Im hoping this boost of sulfur doesn't stick around for too long in my soil. I have read though it would take a bunch to affect the plant in a bad way. Im willing to sacrifice one girl for the cause.

How long have you been at this? Any certain amount of sulfur powder you can recommend?

Not terribly long, a few years.

How much to use depends on the soil mix composition and nutrient content. If you're using a more neutral mix then you'll be safe going heavier on the topdressing. If you're already in FFOF or something similar then the risk of overfeeding increases and you'll want to go lighter.

Like everything else, just listen to the plants. ?

I'm growing in coco coir w/ MasterBlend + calcium + magnesium sulfate with a guaranteed analysis of 12.8% sulfur. Maybe I should be hunting them too?

I have heard talk of sulfur to add in production of a "skunkyer" skunk so some time, bro science and now backed up with published reports of its effects but my thought is how did they do it before? I remember that Humboldt skunk when it was coming south in the late 70's. That was the shit. Expensive shit. I remember $10 grams of this and Hawaiian. Worth it.

What the hell did they cross to produce that nasty skunk dead on the road? I did smell some hemp, about a half acre a couple years ago in Valley Center that was skunky. I have no idea what strain. Signs on fence said "Hemp."

I don't think we really know what they crossed back then and even if we did would they be avaliable with those same/very similar genetics today?

I don't know but Love ❤️ following along on the hunt?

The stuff I grow smells enough?

Im sure the acreage was amended with many things and sulfur probably being a big one. Back in the late 80's early 90's I remember a lot of the people growing were using Alaskan fish emulsion. Then came along more specific dry nutrients into the grow world which was a great because that fish shit was nasty. But did we lose some of that dank funk from it? I also know a lot of outdoor growers around here would drop a bluegill in the hole beneath there soil.

I've read both of those links as well as a couple more and sulfur does seem to be the avenue but to find the correct inputs on the cellular level so the plant can convert to our source required for those terps we be lookin for.
Im wondering if it's not right underneath our noses. Now that we have the Purist Indica, maybe we should be focussed on crossing, backcrossing...I don't know the exact terminology but we have to be getting close to this original genetics/crosses. If the Purist indica is what was bred out of the new skunk#1 then maybe we need to get it back in the lineage. Im really excited to see how Skunky some of these PI turn out. Somewhere close there is a gene that allows the plant to absorb and retain more of these compounds leading to the thiols we seek.

Skunky Dunk is looking in the right places with Afghani and other "funk machines".

Honestly the skunkiest thing I've smelled is a Blue Cheese cross. I think my nutes add sulfur so I don't add anything extra but love and the odd hair stuck to a plant.

From what I've seen you're more likely to find a skunky pheno hunting Cheese strains than you are Skunk but that's an untested opinion.

I remember back in the early 80’s, asking the old guy what that weird can was for… turns out they used to burn sulfur! (Some still do).. It wasn’t just for pest control apparently.. But that was “bro science”.. Any weight to it, I don’t know as I don’t have a burner, but it might be something to look into.. I’m pretty sure we still dont know exactly what all the stomata does, I mean ya, we have a solid idea, but there is always an unknown.. Who knows…
