Mushroom Cultivation

Ahh I was incorrect. Apologies. These are whole oats and similar to wheat or rye. A pre-soak is a good idea with all hard shelled whole grains fme. You want to do this not only to hydrate, but also to germinate any encrusted endospores. A pressure cooker will not kill the endospores before they germinate.

If your cooker doesn't achieve 15 psi, I'd suggest do a 12-18 pre soak in hot water. (I'd suggest the pre-soak for all bulk grain regardless of your PC).
The boil/simmer alone wont kill endospores or allow them to germinate. I'd also rinse a few times at the start and after the soak.
Though many do get by without it, years of struggling with contamination in jars and bags that were otherwise properly prepped and PC'd, led me to believe it essential with bulk grain especially.

The tek looks good to me, and is pretty standard for grain.

Liners help keep the trays clean. Not essential, but I don't think it really makes much difference.
Patience and experience are the best teachers when it comes to fungi. Each will find what works best for them as they learn.
There are many teks and variables. But the basics are what is important.
DL the ebooks shared here in resources by @Deebs. Great info, though dated.

I personally used liners on my tubs to reduce side pinning. It's not necessary, but it worked well, and flushes came out great. after the 3rd flush i removed the liners when i dunked, and placed the whole cake on top a large piece of foil. first i just put it on the rack and it was still pinning on the bottom also, as I flipped the cake. waiting to see what happens. To clarify I am no expert, just research, and this is the first ever run..

Thanks man. Was quite happy about how it came out. I hope Shiitake, Enoki, Maitake, and oysters turn out the same... ::::crossing fingers::::::

This worked very well, and Ill do a write-up of everything at some point, from compiling notes.

I have really been diggin' don's method that @Kkvguitarist posted though! Looks easier and less time consuming for sure!

Excellent job for a noob! Way to go! Next time you dunk try propping/standing it on its side and see if it'll flush on both sides.

Thanks man! That would be sooo sweet to see! I was thinking of trying that as you mentioned it prior, need some stabilizers hehe

WOW 44 pages! I got some catching up to do, but I would like to share these chocolates I made a week or so ago. Only Tips I have, that may have been discussed in the thread previously, are not to use your normal coffee grinder, and dodge the magic dust cloud, unless you're feeling froggy :alien:

I personally grow in large filter patch bags, the bag is the liner! Lol, thays an absolutely beautiful ? flush. Here's what a flush from one of my bags looks like

I guarantee that out of everyone here I have had by far the most issues with contamination, most people that try an fail for as long as I did would just give up i went almost 2 years batch after bat h maybe every 5th try id get something to finally grow, it was about 18 mo ths this went on until i finally built a flowhood.

Buti say that to say this, every technique and method i use is specifically geared around high contamination rates and how to beat them every step of the way

Look up my grow method i have posted, I believe my tek is awesome for bulk as well as personal growers.

I had an infinite number of problems spawning grain in open air , even though it was straight to coco/verm.

What I believe happened, because I grew successfully this way fkr a few years then 1 time I got the mean green and ever since that 1 contamination everything g went downhill.

I believe the spores spread inside my grow area and Into the ac and I believe it started growing, so I had trichoderma mucelium floating around , which is a game over. Even with 100% clean spawn grain, spawnjng to o ly coir and vermiculute, which are extremely contam resistance, a strand of trick mycelium WILL ruin clean grain and coco coir.
The spores will not but live mycelium.will.

So the all in 1 bags allow for a nutrie t rich su strategy that stays completely sterile throughout the grow to fruiti g

Heheh, Im not sure you'd want to make a wager on that... 30 + yrs and I've always thought I had my share, his share, and a few others share of contam issues as well .

But I so agree, proper sterile technique, Patience, Attention to detail, and minimizing the factors the cause issues.. Priceless knowledge. Sometime we, old timers, learned the hard way. And Still learn,. though hopefully through others experiences.

I am gonna give the bags a shot. WBS grain , manure/coir/verm sub . I have smaller bags, but thats fine. I like the faster colonization times..
I might have a couple questions on a few details I didnt really understand in your tek.

Oh ok yeah im here sorry about rhat, I should review it and make it easier to understand. Usi g the large bags is ideal, i have a half quart bakery scoop that i put 5 heaping scoops into each bag, it only fills about 1/3 of the bag.

When its half colonized I massage and shake up and then use my fist to pack the substrate flat in the bottom, thats why the large bags are good give enough area for a large flat oval shaped sunstrate with a nice flat growing surface and packed very tight so no sidepins.

Lol and I'm sure, I know alot of ppl that give up quickly after loosing 1 or 2 grows and i was like a maniac slamming my d**k with a hammer just loosing hundreds and hundreds of jars thinking i was gonna get it each time.

Another biiiiig bonus NO MORE DAM JAAAARS!! !I could dance a jig for that. No.more slamming glass into my palm bruising the crap out of it, no more accidental drops and shattered glass, no more making filter lids or dealing with rusty metal bands or having to clean all those dam things. The bags make breaking it up easy, my neighbors stared as I whistled and danced my way back and forth tossing a few hundred glass jars STRAIGHT IN THE TRASH! Lol hahaha

I also love the fact that at about 30% colonization I break it up shake it well, and pack it down then im.done with it set on a shelf and harvest as needed.

It is possible to open the bag early and I induce pinning, but I allow them to consolidate until theu force pins and i get a few large flushes then toss.

Love it! nice pictorial. Enjoy your yummy chocolates!

Do these need refrigerated to stay solid? I mean, how well would they travel on a camping trip or whatnot?
Good stuff man, welcome to the fun guys thread.
Thanks! I keep them in the fridge but I don't think they would melt unless in some real heat. If you could take a lil lunch cooler I'd stuff em in there.

So I just assumed that Pan Cyan prints/syringes would always be available via mushrooms. com until last night when I went to grab some. There is very limited stock so I only grabbed two Panaeolus (Copelandia) Bisporus Spore Prints so I can fruit them out, and make a bunch of new prints. Anyone have any tips on running them? I've only done Cubes so far... but I'm ready to add the Pans to my collection.
