I can't see the picWhat I thought was a decent seed haul has turned out to be somewhat disappointing as about 60% of my Flo x Fast Purple seeds are split open upon removing them from the plant.
What am I doing wrong?
What about now?I can't see the pic
I should have added, these were indoor, RH around 45-55% temps 77-81FIf the buds get damp like from rain or a sprinkler or something the seeds can start to germinate.
They look like they started to sprout then stopped.Bust one open and see what's Inside.
I have had this happen with some strains and not others during same crop. Not sure why it happens but those split beans will still germinate. They look like they started to sprout then stopped.
That's why I mentioned popping one open.I have had this happen with some strains and not others during same crop. Not sure why it happens but those split beans will still germinate.
I tried germinating a few of the ones I had that split like that and they germinated and grew fine. Not sure how long they'll stay good but at least a few weeks for sure.
Never heard of seeds with nothing inside unless a mouse got to them. If you pollinated them around day 21 the beans should be solid. could be the geneticsI have just shucked a Fiona's Chem Cake. Indoor grown, low humidity and no growing problems. It had 25% immature beans, 50% good sound beans, and 25% were split open with nothing inside. I've never seen this before. I got plenty of good beans , but I'd really like to know what happened.
Was gonna say , also are your drying like your would flower ?moisture content of the flowers, if you got dense flowers with added humidity can cause them to crack inside the bracts.
I remove everything but flower then they dry in a mesh sieve until they are dry enough to handle. This was evident while still growing, so I don't think the dry has any part in this. This plant and an Apple Bottom clone were in the Tripple Pakistan tent, yet this only occured on that one Fiona's CC.Was gonna say , also are your drying like your would flower ?
I was thinking time-wise like maybe you were doing too long or short of a dry. I've had them plenty of times and think it has something to do with too much moisture towards the end of flower and or not drying say 10 to 14 days . That's just my opinion though from what I've seen and experienced. Def headscratcher tho, They look nice and dark. Maybe take them soonerI remove everything but flower then they dry in a mesh sieve until they are dry enough to handle. I'll up the air exchange on the next run in said tent, although I saw no humidity issues, except for this, maybe?
Thanks for the thoughts. I feel as though it might be genetic to a degree, coupled with other variables. The seeds were full sized and also there were as many immature beans as done [split] ones. I had a Fiona's Chem Cakes and an Apple Bottom in the tent as well to take advantage of the pollen. Both of them finished well and the beans were perfect. When I run it again, that should answer the genetic question.Hey brotha, stumbled on this. What you probably have here, I believe has almost or more or less been mentioned. But it's basically due to high moisture in the flower when the seeds were in the flower. Basically if you'd have left them much longer in that situation you'd have probably seen some germinating. It happens and it's a bummer. I had to ditch 2-3k seeds for a similar situation the other day. Humidity was not an issue in my grow either. There are other reasons or ways this can happen too, but from the little I picked up I don't think they're the cause. I think Frim mentioned it about drying. Some seeds have very thin husks or outter shells, and if dried quickly have a tendency to split open. You'll see it a lot in under developed seeds if you dry with a desiccant or something or extremely dry conditions(think winter time heaters been on and stupid dry air). My guess is the flower moisture, frustrating I know. I didn't leave mine in there to ripen for too long or anything either. But if you don't mind me asking, for my own knowledge and problem solving, are those what you'd consider "smaller" seeds than normal or about normal sized? I ask because the two different times I've seen this happen "naturally" they were both what I'd call "smaller" seeds. I feel like it translates to possibly a thinner husk/outer shell. Anyway, that got long quick, weird not like me at all hahaha. Hope that helps my friend. As far as a fix for that, I've not found one other than run it again and wait a couple more days longer to pollinate. Thought there is if they're (the seeds) are closer to outside of the flower, they won't retain the moisture like the more inner flower sites. As always my friend I wish you the absolute best, let me know if I can be of any more help.
