My Vipar Spectra hack

I'm converting this 520w. blurple to 6 cobs & mean well drivers I have the cobs & holders they're luminous CXM 22 s & 3500K they're supposed to be comparable to vero 29 & can be driven pretty hard I'm wanting to either with 2 xlg 200h-ab or xlg 240 h-ab so I'll IMG_20200331_153250.jpgIMG_20200331_153748.jpg be running 400 or480 watts I'll order the drivers this weekend tomorrow I'll be pulling the light apart & figure out where on the heatsinks I'm gonna put the cobs I spent my camera money on the cobs but a decent camera is my next project for my grows

I originally thought the 5w. led panels were held to the aluminum heatsinks with screws but that's not the case they're laminated to a sheet of aluminium with some sort of epoxy & the fins are screwed to the backside of the panel aluminum to aluminum with thermal paste in the middle so I've measured out where my cobs are gonna go & I'll use a die grinder to expose bare aluminium & put down my thermal pads , cobs & holders I'm saving all the plugs as running 2 drivers instead of 5 will simplify that end of it that leaves hooking up my 12v. power source for the fans IMG_20200404_164057.jpgIMG_20200404_173749.jpgIMG_20200404_173814.jpg

You'll be wanting to get it perfectly flat where the cobs meet the heat sink.
You may be better off just getting a replacement aluminum sheet and attaching the heatsinks and cobs to that.
I was just thinking too, what's the V on the cobs you have? Aren't they 36 V cobs? Or am I wrong?
Cause if they are, those 54v drivers won't be compatible.

Cool beans mang. ???
These cobs are rated for about 130w. each I'll be wiring them parallel 3 cobs to each 240 w. driver at 80 w. per cob I'm waiting on the drivers to make the wiring harness & figure out if they'll fit inside the housing , I'm pretty sure they will the drivers are due Friday I've got the cobs mounted I'm using BJP holders which are concaved to form a mini reflector & notched to fit ledil Angelina reflectors as this light is going in a 3x3 tent for flower a bit of overkill but I like solid buds my other cob is also in a 3x3 & has cree cxb 3070 (6) cobs atb340 w. I just want a bit more IMG_20200405_133642.jpg

I'm all about overkill. Lol.
You'll be in the 53ish watts per sq ft there. ???
Better to have the extra power if need/wanted, and dim down, than be shy of enough light.
At full power, all flower lights on I'm running about 47/ft of led and a cmh. Sure dont have a lack of light. Lol. A bit much for some of my plants.

I like a good sativa dominant hybrid , scrog , food & light lol I've long been interested in cmh

I got the drivers mounted & most of the wiring done & test fired one bank at a time tomorrow I'll get the fans up & a few minor glitches I might put it over the purple primate just to test things out gonna have to order dimmers this is my first attempt at DIY led lighting its definatly a learning experience IMG_20200408_093752.jpgIMG_20200408_093809.jpg

Pretty good, we're' going to make it through this mess. How about you? Doing well I hope.. Nice find on the power adapter..cant wait to see that LED all lit up...cobs are great?..... If you, or anyone else ever need more power adapters/supplies, I have a box full of old chargers: Laptops, and phones primarily, but a few others that I used in projects. a box full? yes a med uhaul box full....:)
