I think they are best....chicken fried. Like EVERYTHING

Chicken fried livers, collard greens and mac and cheese is still one of my favorites

And red squirrels are kind of special. They are not covered by a small game license in Canada, you can shoot unlimited blacks and greys but no reds.

Red Squirrels are part of a trapping license...and that is the only way you can shoot them (if you are a trapper).

But there are gabillions..I dont think anyone would notice but wow are they puny. You would need 10 to make a chik fila

So, kind of random, but all of a sudden we have red squirrels all over the place where I live, when we used to only have grays. I like the red ones, they're cuter, and they don't seem to want to chew on my fence as much.

I like my livers chopped and schmeared on some rye bread with some pastrami, sliced tongue and Swiss (I love my peoples food but kosher just ain't for me. I like cheese with my meat and all things shelled and oceanic). Or, dependent on the animal, pan fried with onions and gravy I suppose.

Chicken fried hearts and collards though, that's the path to my heart (pun obviously intended)

Those red squirrels are not in play downstate, but upstate is a different matter. I see way more reds than grays......the reds will push the grays out...and they are not nice about it...castrating grays with their teeth, as it were......they are nasty little shits........and hunting they will alert everybody to where you are........and they are too small for any significant food value.

I'm old enough to have brought a pile of squirrels to my mom to fry up for the rest of the fam .... used to hunt them in town with a little 22

Since we are back on the squirrel talk any of yall have any black ones near you. I spot them from time to time here just a melanistic subgroup but I have yet to find an albino.

We have a few black ones around here but getting fewer and harder to find. I went through a town in Missouri once that had albino squirrels, they had signs in the town square I guess you would call it, saying it was illegal to kill or feed them. Can't remember what town but somewhere around Springfield.

We definitely got some dark ones. Not so much around the city but if I'm fishing at like the reservoir or another town over I've seen them on many occasion. They're cool as hell.

There is a small town/village near me that every squirrel ya see is solid black..Go outside that area and it's all Big fox squirrel... Go north a hour and it's all grey squirrel..Was quite the squirrel hunter as a younger man. Still do but usually only once a season....was working on a big job a long time ago down in Columbus Ohio and the area had a whole bunch of pure white squirrels...I was told that the pure black squirrel are actually fox squirrel..And back in the early 70s a guy brought back a nest of baby black squirrel he found while visiting Canada...Raised them up and realeased them outside still as pets...Still to this day every squirrel is solid black
