"The pHenohunter Community Preservation Project"

Is say 2 makles and 3 females enough diversity to consider it preservation or would I just be bottle necking them up using the minimal stock I have
What you are describing would be opening it up and not narrowing it down.

Yes, you only will capture so much of the genetic range with only having a limited number of inputs, but opening it back up does allow for a possibility to find something that was once there that isn't anymore.

I always love what is going on in this community and I am very interested in this preservation project. I am sad that I do not have more time and energy to devote to picking one of the cultivars listed and doing a dedicated preservation run. I am pushing ~40 cultivars that I am currently running and I am always adding more and constantly creating hybrids and testing. However, I believe that I have previously mentioned Monkey Balls (Deep Chunk) in this thread. All of my cuttings of my keeper cut of Monkey Balls have rooted (I was down to my last cutting of her), so now I can move forward with flowering her out again without fear of losing the cut. I have narrowed down my Monkey Balls males to 2 and in all honesty, they are ridiculously similar, which is what is making it so difficult for me to choose which stud to keep. I took cuttings from both of the males today, so as long as they root, I will be flowering the males out again sooner than later. With all of that being said, I never care to make any promises until seeds are harvested and in my hands (anyone who has made seeds knows that shit can go awry at any point haha), but I would definitely love to make/gift as many Monkey Balls seeds as possible to this community first and foremost, as well as as many others as I possibly can. The best way to prevent the loss of something, is to spread it as far and as wide as possible. Monkey Balls is actually a cultivar that is very similar, if not exactly what I recall from old school Deep Chunk. I have been disappointed countless times with old school claims from breeders, but that is definitely not the case with Monkey Balls. I will do my best to proceed with making seeds in the near future and keep updating this thread as I progress. Positive vibes...

Skunky Dunk Farms

Ive got a question.
Tell me how many weeks after flip should the males be allowed to hang out?

In a hypothetical grow that has vegged for 8 weeks @18 hrs. At which times the males have really started to show off, then flip. After the first males sacks pop is 2 weeks into flower long enough for open pollination to occur or would 3 to 4 weeks be needed to get everything hoped for?

I would say week 3 to 4 probably ... I'd love to hear pros and cons
I was thunkin the same, true we all want the early girls for indoor simplicity but being this strain has 2 lines of sativa crossed in to the indica im sure some of the good stuff comes a little later.
Im also basing this on Skunk #1 needs 10 weeks to finish. That coming from the sativa side.

You should be able to let the 1st one's open, give the male 24hrs..
Cut it hang it or lay it on paper in a shower for a few days and get all the extra pollen you need...
This should happen on a full moon....
So 2- 3 wks....

If you shake that Male 3 times in 2 days..your plants got hit hard....

Anyways just my 2 cents worth....

Hard to say. It depends how much varition in flower set / sac opening there is. If you have lots of available sites I might let the boys hang longer. If there is a boy or two that are not showing any sign of opening the early dumpers should be pulled imo. So my answer - depends, I will most likely be pulling males just after 1st sacs open.

I was gonna attempt to segregate all the males I get and harvest their pollen as they mature, then I'll dust a few branches of each lady hard with whatever specimens I end up with, I'd love to just let them go naturally, but you know the one that blows first will do the majority of the space, and the late comer may miss the whole party just my rookie ass opinion ??????

Honestly if you guy's want to do this right. And this is just my 2 cents worth..
If You're going to keep a few males, you need a tent/room just for them..then you need to move your lady's into that tent/area for a few day's when your ready run a few fans in there and let the players do there thing...
Then after the month of the Male's dropping pollen..you can clean the tent up and rehit things if you want to..or just save the rest of it....

Heirloom or Landrace? If its a landrace imo you gotta let "nature" play it out best you can, no storing pollen, only progeny from the previous generation...

Struggling a bit with deciding how this should play out myself. In @Skunky Dunk Farms example there are 2 distinct phenos that represent the heirloom strain. Shouldn't skunky cull/remove from the project anything male or female that doesn't fit those parameters?

For me with Neville's Haze I am expecting to be fairly uniform with an occasional outlier. I feel like I could use all stock material I can regardless of growth habbit, but being it is heirloom I feel free to impart my human actions and decide what is done. I could even use different generational stock and even stock from different suppliers who may have done a traditional open pollenation or may have used stored mixed pollen, or maybe they were down to just a few seeds and only got one male?

I think there is more than one right way to go about this.

Absolootly! You can peruse the pinned thread for the project. I will be updating the kanban board today to add @OldG additions. If there is something on that list, that does not have a name associated, it is open for preservation. Perusing your journal I don't doubt your capabilities. If there is something not there, but fits the criteria of landrace or heirloom, etc. We can definitely add to the list. I am still on the hunt for items that fell through this summer..Tashkurgen, Mango Thai, Mango Biche, Citrali #2, and Mardan.

Take a look, Let me know. Some packages going out this week.
