That's a decent pan. You should think about a little dip tank...5gal bucket and some lye..........soak the piece and when it comes out you will be amazed.......it's like baby-butt factory fresh new.......then re-season the pot will go another 100 years. That's about how old that one is. I did the Easy-off thing for a while and always got mixed results. After setting up a bath and seeing the results I would never use the easy off method again. Big pans need a 18 gallon tote.............the mix lasts a long time if you put a lid on it. It's also effortless, once you set it up.......you can leave the iron in as long as you want. Most pans end up being PERFECT under all that grime. I've been collecting cast iron a long time, sold a bunch, still have a bunch but always have my eye out in in the vicinity of that type of stuff. My local thrift is a cast iron honey hole. I have found some gems there, but here's a Griswold good health skillet, that I paid like 3 dollars for. I usually hit them with oven cleaner and then reseason, for use in my kitchen. This one is worth some money, but I put it into rotation. If you see one of these, grab it!

Heck yeah that's a great idea. Easy off is a mess and I hate spraying it off into the driveway or whatever. I didn't think about having a tote with a lid, for multiple washes. Now I can have another weird bin out back!! I knew this thread would be fun. I have a stack of pans to clean soon, so I'll def. go that route. That's a decent pan. You'll never go back once you try it. Lowes keeps it under lock and key.....you have to ask for it.......think it has something to do with meth. But they get it for you if you ask and aren't all jittery and shit.Heck yeah that's a great idea. Easy off is a mess and I hate spraying it off into the driveway or whatever. I had it all over me last week. Draino didn't clear the bath, and when I took pipe apart in the basement, it all came out on me. It was effin terrible and wouldn't come off. I felt all slippery and burny. It can cause wicked burns.
Lol, and that's not pure lye.I had it all over me last week. Draino didn't clear the bath, and when I took pipe apart in the basement, it all came out on me. It was effin terrible and wouldn't come off. I felt all slippery and burny.
For sure, I want the hash of drain cleaners. The real deal bucket of caustic liquid.Lol, and that's not pure lye.
Im super jealous of this. I can never find any cast iron at our local thrifts period, never mind the good stuff. My local thrift is a cast iron honey hole. Sodium or Potassium Hydroxide?Sodium hydroxide for the win!
Fkn badass story mang. My mom sews and has a manual step Singer like from 117 years ago n shit. She uses it more than the electrical ones. She said it just works right. Gotta love it manIn an earlier life, I lived in Chicago, got married, some kids, I was welding on locomotives back then in LaGrange Ill.
Wifey, found some work with a curtain maker/reupholster company.
Once kids got to school age, we decided to move back to PA, back to the country, back into these hills.
Wife learns that one of her besties, dad, was a maintenance man for a sewing company.
He had maybe 10 various machines in his basement he refurbished, when the company bought new machines, he would buy them for scrap prices, the fix, and sell them.
I did not KNOW a thing about sergers, and walking feet, other stuff, but she did.
His basement was a horder's dream, 30-50 feet of floor to ceiling STUFF, piled to the ceiling. Way in the back, the machines sat.
2 days later, we get to them. Plug them in, and they work and run, perfectly.
They haggle over the price, and we are the owner of 4 industrial grade sewing machines.
Few weeks later, she/we are in the Curtain & Reupholster business.
Of course my part was/picking up furniture/disassembly of furniture, refinishing the wood, hanging curtains, and fixing the machines after Mr. K passed away.
My kids sold the business, and house after she passed away 10 years ago.
