Cool, thanks for the info! I think I know of two different gravel yards in my area. Those were gonna be my next places to check out. Just wasn't sure what kind of customers they serve. If they serve just companies, businesses, and/or contracts? Or if they also work with pedestrians/home gardeners looking to buy maybe a bag or two/few cubic yards?Early on when I started building my soils I spent a few weekends going to all the local materials yards, landscape supply, garden centers, hell I even went to lawnmower repair places asking for leads. Eventually I found a local guy for my bulk outdoor compost (I use bagged for indoor), and a place that actually bags up soils for other companies, where I have been able to source 3/16" and 3/8" pumice for a few years now. They had 3/4" red lava rock this whole time, but just the other day I noticed the 3/8”, to be fair this red lava rock is a lot of mixed sizes, 3/8” down to 3/16”. The pumice is very uniform in size. I give it a rinse in a big strainer, and then it goes into my mix.
Edit for the mix: I also add 2 cups of fresh blended Briess Malted Barley, and 1cup of BAS Insect Frass.

Just trying to find a better replacement/substitute for perlite. I've always used it but I don't like how light it is and doesn't stay in place like lava rock. And perlite also breaks down to dust quicker it seems like. The home improvement stores carry only the small ass size (I'll have to maybe check again what kinds of gravel they offer). And the hydro store only carries the huge ass size, think they refer to it as #4...and it's a huge ass bag! Not your typical bagged product (1-1.5 cubic ft) size. If I were growing outdoors, sure, maybe, possibly, but I'm just small time indoor. Thanks again!
Your garden's looking good!!
