I think I've already asked a few heads this question but. . ...

Is it entirely necessary to dry/cure seeds prior to germinating/growing out?? Or could I grow these seeds out, straight off a still flowering & maturing plant? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ and what about sending out those seeds, dry/cure first right?

They may pop, they may not.
I haven't had good luck with some without drying for a few weeks at least. Some pop easy no problem right away.
I guess you'll find out soon!

Appreciate that. I wonder if the drying/curing process makes the seed husk more susceptible to cracking later? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ these are tough lil bastards, i smooshed a few and it took some real effort, lol

I've tried germinating seeds straight off the plant but didn't have any luck. Couple weeks to dry seems to make a difference.

I think when I say "use them right away" I at least clean them completely and give em a few days just sitting out at room temp. Now that I think about it I've never tried fresh off the plant or any less than a few days sitting out. But even a few days I consider very fresh/new yet

I've always waited a couple of weeks for the beans to harden before I attempted to pop. Then I saw this and just shrugged, Supposedly this was on an outdoor plant after a few days of consistent rain.

Another thing I like to consider is how Mother Nature would handle those beans out in the wild. Seed will be done at the end of fall outdoors and then winter comes cooling everything down and remaining darker longer. Seeds then would sprout in late winter/early spring as things warm up and light becomes more abundant. They then take hold for another season of survival.

This all has me curious.
I've got a plant that has been pollinated like 8 weeks ago. Plenty ripe, and the part right around the seed area has turned brown. I'll toss a couple right in water and see if they pop. Especially how thin these buds are, I bet they dried some while still on the plant.

Any update on the seeds Rookie? If they don't pop, don't let that discourage you.

Yeah, kinda. The seeds I was soaking never popped but i suspect a couple things; firstly, i was shucking fresh sticky flower and pretty much put a nice resinous coating on these seeds when extracting them from the flower πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ secondly, I suspect they weren't quite ripe, the "belly button" on the seeds were still quite green.

I also grabbed a couple more seeds from each plant while doing some plant maintenance

The Slurricane F2 seeds are noticeably darker in color than the Chernobyl x Slurricane seeds which are still quite greenish-brown in color. I kinda suspect these won't pop either, I really think there's something to the "resinous coating" when extracting beans from fresh flowers πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Sorry I haven't updated this in a while. We're all done 🀘 all these beans came out of two teeny larf buds, so it's safe to say the whole plant is gonna be a BITCH to shuck πŸ˜–

This particular bud in these pics was cut off the plant a week before harvest, so the rest of the plant is still drying but this bud was dry enough to smoke.

Smoke verdict: firstly, the nug is baaaaarely dry enough to smoke so it's still a wee bit "planty" but it's smooth smoke, a very slight Purple Punch-y smell and taste. Decent buzz. But, because this was a seed run I'm not holding to this verdict, I'm flowering another F1 without seeds so I'll try to remember to come back here with a more accurate smoke verdict πŸ‘πŸ‘

Can't wait to try out these F2 beans 🀘
