About Solventless Extraction: Solventless processes do not require the use of solvents at all. In most cases, means of mechanical separation, heat, and pressure are used to produce extracts. The key difference in the final product is that solventless extracts will contain no residual solvents at all
There are many forms of extraction commonly used in the cannabis and hemp industry. Most utilize chemicals in liquid or gas form to strip or dissolve the trichomes off the plants flower and create an oil commonly known as crude. The crude oil is then further refined in a distillation process to remove a majority of the extraction solvent.
Extraction using solvent-based technology has been an industry standard for many years, however it does not come without its faults. Equipment used for solvent-based extraction and recovery often uses volatile gases or liquids such as butane, and ethanol that require pressure vessels along with explosion proof enclosures or rooms & can be heavily regulated in most states.
