DIY grow box

I have been planning to build a small grow box for seed starting and early veg. I was initially thinking of using plywood, but am starting to consider 1” foam insulation instead. My dimensions will be around 32”L x 20”W x 24”H. I have been considering between using my old vipar 136 watt burple or 6 or 7 screw in Led bulbs at 60ish watts. I’m really leaning towards the screw in bulbs because I can get more even coverage and should hopefully have less concern ls about light burn on my plants.

Those dimensions are close to 30 G aquarium.
Free , if you look hard enough. Also, airtight, if you ever decide to pop off some pollen in there.

I shelved my blurple last year in favor of household led's. Was a great decision!

these and a strip of plug mold cut to length shines on all my moms.

I've repurposed a few things as grow cabs.

A cheap white particle board unit similar to this:

I put a plywood door on the front and cut holes for ventilation and cords in the back. Made simple light traps with cardboard and black duct tape and mounted a 4-socket splitter for SILs. Mine has an adjustable shelf so it's easy to adjust spacing between plants and lights.

I also found a cupboard at a recycling center. Simliar setup, but the door was already in place and there is room for a 7-socket splitter. I used a hole saw and ran the male end of the splitter out the top of the cab to save headroom inside and for a little better heat dissipation.

I've built from scratch with plywood too, but I find it's a lot easier to keep things square starting with something prebuilt and adapting it.

Second hand stores are great for weird little cabinets that you can convert to a grow box.

2 x 2 x 4 is one of the cheapest tents you can get so that is the price point to beat or i would get a tent

My Topolite 2×3×5 tent is a pretty good contender for low price. Seriously great tents and cheap.
