@pwnytailjoe About those nice purple carrots you grew - do they taste like the orange ones ? I’ve been eating a lot of orange ones from our recent garden harvest ?And hella nice genetics in your garden(y)
They're no different than 'regular' carrots except for a heavy coating of anthocyanin around the outside. If you leave them in water too long it starts to come off and when you steam them the water in the steamer part turns a dark purple/black. We planted them everywhere with regulars as well but the purples had a better germ rate. I think the orange seeds were a few years old.

Maybe that's it. I haven't had parsnips since I was a kid... a few decades ago. I don't even remember how they taste. The fruitstand down the road sold bouquets of carrots- orange, purple, and white. The wife put them in stew so I couldn't really say how they taste.
Parsnip has a ‘nip’ to it for sure, and I could see it giving a tummy problems.. And though it looks like a white carrot, it’s ‘bite back’ would let ya know in a hurry it ain’t no carrot!…lol

oh man I love parsnips. roasted with some beets and potatoes, and mashed are my two favorite preparations.

edit I planted "carrot tape" which was a super thin, skinny strip of tissue paper with seeds every couple inches, so you just hoe yo' row, put down a line of the seed tape, and bury it. So i'm not sure if they had just loaded that one with more white carrots or what.

I'm starting to understand plant pot size is a lot like hard drive size.

Entering week three from my count and technically entering week 4 since germination, tomorrow, Saturday at 3am. I can't recall ever keeping track of veg days my entire life, just bloom days. And honestly the counting from flip seems kind of foreign to me too since outdoor we counted from the first appearance of stigmas. ?‍♂️

A couple got a little hungry trying to bust through that little peat pot. That's not cool but It's probably just my poor mixing ability and meager amount of castings/compost/fertilizer. They all seem to be on the right track for now but I was initially using twice the amount of Root Gold than I was supposed to because I mathed it for 2tbsp instead of 1.

PXL_20221124_221035447.jpg

Nitrogen seems a bit heavy too. I did top-dress with 1-tbsp castings and 1/4-tsp Home Grown 4-6-3 on Sunday 11/20.
Watering frequency is roughly every two days with no runoff. I've been doing a Nitro Big feeding followed by a plain water[CG Roxane, Weed, CA[Crystal Guyser]]

I also haven't pH'd anything except the soil before I started6.5 according to the probe and half-assed slurry test.

?Grease's Pieces S1
No. 1 started to have an [pH]issue but has since worked past it. picture 11/24
PXL_20221124_175118169.jpg

?= Apple Fritter x Citrus Milf[Apple Bottom] Same issue with them all, a bit hungry out the gate, pH a bit wonky... but seems to be leveling out ok.

PXL_20221124_175145388.jpg

? Peanut Butter Breath x Citrus Milf[Sour Skippy] The two, No.3 and No.4, got special red markers to represent the fire that will be delivered for my patience.

Out of the three strains, these are the slowest growing and two show the heaviest signs of hunger. Again, I think that's just from the small amount of food initially.

The AC Infinity Cloudray S6 is almost overkill for this tent but it works well so far. I have it static right now but I'll relocate it and get it moving once the plants get bigger.
PXL_20221126_045914130.jpg

A couple are getting a bit stretchy and may require.... finessing before we go to flower. If they pick up speed now that everything is settling in, I'll probably transplant to the 1-gallons next week. I'm running to the store this weekend to see if they have any 7x7 square pots. If not, I'll stick with what I have.

I'm a bit confused on the watering regime and if I should be doing things in a certain order. Right now I'm giving them the Metabolic transformer, then the Root Gold, then watering with the nutrients. If anyone has any tips feel free to drop em, I'm all ears. Dr. Earth email response is slower than Pony Express and while I don't expect them to hold my hand, they could be a bit more forthcoming in their replies rather than linking me to a dude on Youtube that has only used the dry fertz.?

Woke up to that, decided to make an update..

Made an executive decision and upgraded from the 1-gallon pots to some 7 inch square pots effectively doubling my root real estate. That will make better use of the 9.5 x 12 inches each plant will have.

They will go flower mode on the 5th of December, so about 5 days to gain some foothold. I [think] they'll be about the right size to not get too tall but still get a decent yield.

@pwnytailjoe - Nice roots in your pic (y) They should thrive in their new square pots. I haven't used Metabolic transformer, but I think microbes/beneficials disperse better when the soil is moist before application, so I would consider using the Root Gold first, to ensure damp soil, and then apply the Metabolic stuff. On the other hand, your roots in that pic look real good to me, so maybe just keep doing what you're doing !

Those are gonna LOVE the new shoes! Should be some bangers in 12/12. Great work, and attention to details. :clapping:

Thanks, they're doing suprisingly well since they crept past the small peat pot. Now I'm worried about running out of root space before they finish. Guess we'll see what happens.
My "method" so far has been to administer the Met.Trans. then follow that with the nutrient solution. I had been doing the Root Gold, MT, and nutrient solution separately out the gate but after browsing the FB group, I switched. No one there seems to have a concrete method down either and most peeps are adding the MT to the nutrient solution.

I'm going to hammer out the amounts of everything I've been using and the order later today for some clarity in the process.

Mods or admins, is there any chance I can adjust the title of this journal to help SEO and help drive traffic from the Dr. Earth liquid crowd?

Im lazy and sometimes throw caution to the wind on my plant size & root space so I enjoy watching those that do it right.

ME: 5' plants in half gal square pots....fug it -let er rip!
3 lbs of roots smashed into a 1lb bag stinkin like sulfer when Im done -sure, why not.

Everything is slightly light stressed here because I've been using the drivers as a heat source in conjunction with the exhaust fan. I raised the lights right after this pic, to their [almost] highest spot. That seems to have taken care of that issue.

Everything has bounced back quite nicely and now I'm shitting myself wondering how I'm going to make everything nice and cozy in there. Everything kind of exploded overnight.[from last night]

Come As You Are
Reflecting on the first 4 weeks:
There were small issues with the nutrient mix in my medium. When I mixed everything, I did each pot individually then remixed the entire thing together.
I don't like using small amounts of organic fertz with small pots for maybe not-so-obvious reasons. It's difficult to get a nice even mix to where I can be sure each pot has everything it needs to get started.
When I upgraded to the 7x7 white pots and had to make more medium, I mixed the Home Grown 4-6-3 a tad heavier than I did with the initial mix.
If I can get a second run in, I'll ditch the 2 inch peat pots for 3 or 4 inch and I'll do a stronger initial mix of the 4-6-3 but probably keep the same rate of compost and castings as I want the Dr. Earth to do most of the heavy lifting here. I'll also give it a week or two longer to "cook" than I did with this round as I seem to have gotten pretty good results with the outdoor and a 3-week cook time.

The nutrient inputs I broke down into 2-cup[1/8-gallon] amounts since I wouldn't be needing an entire gallon to water everything.

Nitro Big 2 oz became 7.5ml[2oz= 60ml/8]

Root Gold 1 oz ---> 3,5ml[1 oz= 30ml/8]

Metabolic Transformer: this is mixed at a rate of 2 tbsp/gallon water then applied at a rate of 2 cups/5-gallon container.
I initially messed this one up and figured the mix at 4 tbsp/gallon but fixed that on subequent mixings to:
6 tsp/8 for 3/4 tsp/473ml water[2 cups] then applied at a rate of 30 ml per plant[red cups]
Once they transferred to the white pots, I increased that to 1-cup of MT/ watering when called for on the schedule.

I'd intended to use RO water but a friend came through with 25 gallons of Crystal Geyser bottled water and that's what I've been using.
I haven't pH'd anything, just letting the stuff do it's thing. I'm pretty sure my pH pen is dried out at this point and on the verge of useless.

I added 1 tbsp of Home Grown 4-6-3 as a top dress to each of the white pots upon transplanting. No real math here, just figured that to be about close enough to what I need.

Other than that, there has been no pest pressure and I don't expect any unless I happen to drag something in on me and given my routine, that's pretty unlikely.
I haven't sprayed them with anything[Plant Therapy] yet and probably won't. I'm going to gamble on this one and say humidity won't be an issue this run unless California attempts to break free of its drought cycle.

Lights on temps have been spot on between 80-82F with 40-55% RH
Lights off sits at a solid 70F/55%RH

edit- I've only been opening my tent twice a day, once to turn the lights on at night and again to turn them off in the morning. I'll unzip slightly to check my hygrometer on top of the pots to compare to the AC Infinity probe and the "other" thing I have hanging in there. Otherwise They're just doing their thing without me bothering them.

I don't think I forgot anything but I probably did. ✌️

Week 1 of 12/12 is under the belt as of yesterday. Next watering I cut the Nitro Big for a full dose of Pot Of Gold[1-1-1] until week three.

I haven't spent much[any] time identifying different phenos. Characteristically, with the exception of the ?Peanut Butter Breath x Citrus Milf[Sour Skippy] and those two slow-ass germinaters, everything is fairly uniform between the three different strains. Smell is in first gear and there's a nice general funk eminating from he tent when i open it.
Did a defo also and cleaned up the lower-third. I'll probably have to do some minor cleanup on a couple but for the most part that's it for any trimming.

#3 that I'd been keeping an eye on is probably the most vigorous plant in the tent. The main stalk is beefy and there's new growth at almost all nodes.

Found this a couple days ago. Pretty sure it's earwig damage. Haven't seen it anywhere else.... yet. Laid down a bit of DE to see if that deters the guest and for a slight bump of silica and calcium. That's not a pet hair nor a pube

I hadn't originally planned on doing a mulch layer. Now I have hay straw growiing as a companion plant?‍♀️

PXL_20221211_083914290.jpg

I did a compost tea watering last night. Added some Metabolic Transformer and bumped up the amount to about 1.5-2 cups per watering.
Is small batch compost tea a thing?

edit- just wanted to add, the PVC is exactly 2 feet on center from the tent floor.
