Fat Man Can Grow

I’m Starting a Grow Journal. But, for those that have not read my introduction post here’s kinda who I am:
“Hey Folks, I’ve been growing/breeding for over 30 years. I happen to have been lucky enough to stumble onto a group of Vietnam Vets that had a growing circle in the 90’s when I was on a quest to find a bag.. These guys traded clones and tips with each other. They sat me down and taught me like you’d learn in school. I had to take notes and there wasn’t a YouTube or internet to use as a resource. Ed Rosenthal was our God and I had 10 different Bible sized books by him on the subject. Also in Virginia there wasn’t light stores, etc. So securing a HID wasn’t easy. I think my first one was “donated” from a construction site... I didn’t ask as it was given to me.
From there I have grown organically as I feel I actually have the most buffers for errors in growing that way. My genetics in those days was basically made up of bag seed. In 2008 I was in a 55 MPH Motorcycle accident in which I crushed my left rib cage, shattered my sternum, destroyed my nervous system to the point I’m one giant pinched nerve. I have a pacemaker in my heart, not because I have a heart problem (My heart is healthy as can be) but because when I lay down a nerve gets pinched and my heart stops for 20-40 seconds. This FEELS like a heart attack. Now I have the pacemakers and it no longer happens. I tell you this to illustrate how messed up physically I am. I’m in 7-9 pain levels every second of my life and for 4 years the medical community made me a legal heroin addict. After a trip to Jamaica and risking smoking again ( I had not since my accident due to lung problems) I found I could not only enjoy a toke but I was going into withdrawals because I was forgetting to take my pain pills. When we got back I made my doctor remove me from all narcotics. In 2012 my wife and I made a trip (our third) to Amsterdam just for the purpose of securing seeds for me to create my own strain for pain relief.
For the next 5 years I created many strains and secured many genetics (all from seed). Below are the strains I’ve created (One someone else made the same cross so I’ve used their name to describe the strain.) and were the genetics were sourced from
Exodus Cheese (MSNL) x Lambs Bread/Breath (Negril) = Cheese Bread
Exodus Cheese(MSNL) x Grand Daddy Purple (MSNL) x Afghani #1 (MSNL) = KishMish (Afghani cheese)
Exodus Cheese (MSNL) x Grand Daddy Purple(MSNL) = Purple Cheddar
Afghani #1 (MSNL) x Lambs Breath/bread (Negril) = Kourmet (Afghani lamb dish)
Kourmet (FatMan Seeds)x KishMish (FatMan Seeds) = KisMet
FatMan seeds = Me!!!”

Now here’s my current grow 4 weeks into Veg(see image). Ignore the color, low res image NOT sick babies!!!I’ve defoliated weekly, topped and LST’d so my canopy is just bursting but level. This is 4 kiddies just before my last defoliation in a 3x3 under 150 watt (actual) LED. There are 4 strains all PP’s. In about a week I’ll move them into a 4x4 with 400 watts to sex and flower. Any males will get moved back to the 3x3 to finish and I’ll decide if I want to harvest pollen. Back left is my Strain KisMet which is made from two other strains I’ve made and stabilized (F4). Kourmet (Afghani #1 (MSNL) x Lambs Breath/bread (Negril) ) x KishMish (Exodus Cheese(MSNL) x Grand Daddy Purple (MSNL) x Afghani #1 (MSNL)), The baby in the back right is GG #4, the left closest is another of my Strains Cheese Bread )Exodus Cheese (MSNL) x Lambs Bread/Breath (Negril)). And finally the front right is Lemon Pie from Leafs by Snoop. I’m just doing this grow for medical use than breeding. When I start on my next strains I’ll start keeping this journal a little more seriously....
PEACE!!!

Sooo I feel like an idiot. I have 2 wifi cams mounted in my tent. One on either side. Which means I COMPLETELY misidentified my strains in the picture last posted. Here’s a current pic with better color (better resolution) but still not perfect. I’m 2-3 days away from defoliating again and 8 days away from them being moved to the 4x4. These are all Photoperiods and Any males will get moved back to the 3x3 to finish and I’ll decide later if I want to harvest pollen. SO, let’s try this again....
Back left is my creation KisMet. This was created from two other strains I’ve made and stabilized (F4). This was created by the following crosses: KourMet (Afghani #1 (MSNL) x Lambs Breath/bread (Negril) ) x KishMish (Exodus Cheese(MSNL) x Grand Daddy Purple (MSNL) x Afghani #1 (MSNL)) this took me 4 years to create. Kourmet is pronounced like Gourmet but with a K, BTW.
The baby in the back right is GG #4, the left closest is another of my Strains Cheese Bread: (Exodus Cheese (MSNL) x Lambs Bread/Breath (Negril)). And finally the front right is Lemon Pie from Leafs by Snoop.

Just to explain. I don’t do F1’s as one of my finished strains. For example to make KishMish. I first crossed Exodus Cheese with Grand Daddy Purple. Both genetics were sourced (and bought in person by me from the source) from MSNL. But before I ever crossed those two. I bred the best phenotypes of both genders inwards. Thereby giving me thousands of seeds to pheno hunt through from the original 10 beans per strain. I then pheno hunted through HUNDREDS of ladies and gentlemen either harvesting pollen or cloning the outstanding phenos I found. I then crossed my “best” in each strain and continued this practice until I had stabilized the phenos I was chasing (terpenes, potency, resistance, etc) THEN I crossed the two strains but I did it both ways. I crossed a male of one with a female of the other (ie. GDP x Ex. Cheese and Ex. Cheese x GDP) Creating two crosses . From there the process started all over again until I had stable mamas and papas of each. I then crossed those choosing the best male and female from both crosses. It was just a matter of pheno hunting and then inbreeding to stabilize the traits I want until F4/F5. Then it was time for the next the next creation. The process listed took years and it’s how I created my version of Purple Cheddar. To finish my strain. I then started the process over with Purple Cheddar and Afghani #1 resulting in Kishmish.
Just thought I’d explain my process and how I was taught to breed.
My next creation will be using Copa Genetics Ban Ham OG (Banana Hammock x Ancient OG), Useful Seeds Blueberries & Oranges (Blue Hashplant x Bag Of Oranges, BOO = Tangerine Power x Blood Orange), and Humboldt’s Notorious THC (Vanilla Frosting x Caramel Cream x Ghost of Von Humboldt).
I’ll be making four strains and have a good idea at what I’m shooting for. I tend to name the strains after deciding my terp profiles. Here are the exact crosses I’m looking to do and the names I’ve come up with. Understand more research goes into my crosses than witty names. But as usual I’ve listed the names and where the genetics are sourced from. I’ve set a two year goal on these four. Which means stabilizing all four strains with my process in 2 years.

(Humboldt)Notorious THC (Vanilla Frosting x Caramel Cream x Ghost of Von Humboldt) x (FatMan)KishMish (Exodus Cheese(MSNL) x Grand Daddy Purple (MSNL) x Afghani #1 (MSNL) ) F4 = Cheese Torte

(Useful seeds) Blueberries & Oranges (Blue Hashplant x Bag of Oranges) x (Copa) Ban Ham OG (Banana Hammock x Ancient OG) = Baked Fruit Crisp

(Humboldt)Notorious THC x (Copa) Ban Ham OG = Ooey Gooey Bananas

(Fat Man) Baked Fruit Crisp x (FatMan) Ooey Gooey Bananas = Charlotte Russe

Wish me luck....
PEACE✌✌🏾✌🏿✌🏽✌🏻

Hey guys,
A couple shots of the current grow. Tomorrow they get a “haircut”. I’ll defoliate and lollipop them give them until Sunday to recover and then move them to the 4x4 to sex/flower. They are currently under 150 watt (actual draw) LED at 75%. The 4x4 has 400 watts actual and I’ll SCROG them once I get the boys and girls separated. I’m assuming if you’re on this site you know HOW to grow. So I’ll refrain on tips and tricks. I’ve explained my process so this thread will be more updates on what I’m currently doing. I’m sorry about the quality of these images. I’m actually a photographer that worked with a Discovery Channel hit show (until one of the main cast was convicted of child molestation) so I have the equipment and know how to produce some awesome pics. Just bare with me. I’ve attached a Macro image that’s part of my photo portfolio to give you an idea of what’s to come. For those of you wondering what show I worked with. I’ve included another shot as a hint.

PEACE...

You’ll see one marked super skunk, I reuse tags, in this grow it was color coded in my notes. So, White is Gorilla Glue #4, Purple is KisMet, Yellow is Lemon Pie, and Green is Cheese Bread.
Pics are in chronological order.

New Genetics have arrived... I’m stoked!!!
I have plans upon plans upon plans. The first thing I need to do is pheno hunt through the photoperiod beans I have for the best Mama’s and Papa’s to inter-breed to make seed stock for the TRUE pheno hunt. Not as exciting as crossing and creating but rewarding in the end. BTW DC Seed Exchange (Home - DCSE) is AMAZING!!! I ordered on Saturday and they were in hand TODAY!!!B27F1748-B6A7-4577-BFED-B0088562AFD5.jpeg

I had someone ask me why I considered Jamaican bag seed (Seeds taken from scored weed while in Jamaica.) good breeding stock. Well, the wife and I have vacationed in Jamaica or the Netherlands every year since 2012. In that time I’ve made many local friends in both countries. When we go to Jamaica, I message my friends and ask them what they want me to bring with me. See, there isn’t a Walmart or mall in Jamaica (think third world country except the resorts). So getting say a pair of nikes isn’t cheap. Usually 5-10 times our retail and if they risk ordering something through the mail. Half the time (well more than half) a postal employee steals it. So, I can go to the store buy exactly what they need and charge them what I paid which in every case is A LOT cheaper than they’d pay on the island. In return my medicine/weed is waiting for me and it’s always the best to be found. I’d do them the favor regardless but it’s their way of showing they appreciate my thinking of them.
The reason I think it’s great breeding stock is anything that can grow in the 75-90% humidity in the Jamaican hills with all those pests/bugs, have high potency, and thick buds is most definitely Mold, Pest, and Disease resistant. I would like to point out that where we stay is locally run and small in comparison to other resorts but we like “local” as opposed to huge resorts/hotels when we travel. I’ve included a few pics I took on vacations past there and a link to the resort if you ever want to travel there.

I agree on several things. @Paxgenetics just made a cross with a plant he gathered while on honeymoon in jamaica. 🤙 Very cool 👍

Depending on what city he was in tells you what he more than likely got. Skunk #1 is a big one in Montego Bay whereas in Negril you’ll get more Lambs Bread/Breath. I love the people and the place. My wife refuses to move there as a place to retire. So I’m going to have to “settle” on the Netherlands. My life sucks...

Also I use ladybugs and nematodes for pest issues. The ladybugs actually have “homes” where I leave water/supplemental food where they breed and live. I don’t just buy a bunch per grow. I try to do everything naturally/organically. Because in the end what I’m growing is going into m body.

So I know a lot of you are thinking....
“Does this guy ever shut up???”...
Nope, you can thank ADHD and PTSD...
Having said that, I put off doing actual work on the garden and didn’t make compost tea last night. So tomorrow I need to feed, defoliate, lollipop, and reset/continue LST. After that they get a week and then on to the 4 x 4 and sexing. You’ll notice I use a small water heater in my teas preparation. My grow areas are in a concreted basement and it’s 30 degrees outside. Keeping the heater on 70 makes my microbes happy and keeps the cold from seeping up through the floor. Below is my compost tea recipe.

5 Gallon Water
4 Tbsp seaweed extract
8 Tbsp Urb (URB Natural ™| Unrivaled Soil Microbes: Increase Yields, Reduce Inputs)
4 Tbsp Molasses
1 cup worm castings
1 cup organic biocompost (NO MANURE)
1 cup living soil
*1/2 cup Dr. Earth Natural organic all purpose 4-4-4 or Dr. Earths Flower girl 3-9-4 IF FEEDING either in veg or flower. Not all compost tea watering are “feeding” teas. So omit if you’re unsure.
Old Sock

So this is really a question as I’m confused. I’m 50 and have been doing this for years. I was taught you want stable genetics in a strain (grows the same thing almost every time) that you need to inbreed it at least 4/5 times and you should want to find F3’s or better for breeding. BUT I just read that F1’s are the most sought after seeds. If that’s the case almost ANYONE can breed and sell seeds.... am I missing something here??? Have I been doing this wrong for 25+ years???

Thanks for sharing the amazing pics from Jamaica and your projects. IMO, F1 is sought after mainly due to vigor, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're better. Yes, there are a lot of breeders/chuckers these days so there will be a lot of F1s out there. One of the reasons why we have a Preservation Project here at pH is to not lose the roots of our beloved plants and to bring back that "magic" that has been seemingly dilluted over the years with the newer strains. You're not doing anything wrong, in fact I think you're doing it right. I'm sure this will be up for discussion if you should want to put up a thread about it in one of the forum sections. Keep doing what you do well :phenohunt:

Yeah I like f1s for my chances at a keeper . So many dif leaners and that vigor too

For pheno hunting I get that, but once you find that special one you want to be able to replicate it from seed. I was taught when you inbreed the BEST of each generation you're strengthening traits, Not degrading them. As you have, one day I hope to release to the public strains I stabilize. If it’s as simple as pheno hunting two awesome parents, pollinating using those, and just sell the resulting seeds, my life just got a lot easier. All of you have my respect and your work speaks for itself. I just want every seed I put out to the public to be what I advertise everytime. I was taught to do this you need to interbreed for stability.

For pheno hunting I get that, but once you find that special one you want to be able to replicate it from seed. I was taught when you inbreed the BEST of each generation you're strengthening traits, Not degrading them. As you have, one day I hope to release to the public strains I stabilize. So unfortunately I don’t have glistening pics of frosty female reproductive parts to share at the moment. Up until a few months ago if I got caught they’d take my house so talking about it much less taking pictures (AKA EVIDENCE!!!) was strictly forbodden.
So what I can share is New stuff that came in today for the grow space.
I FINALLY got a self regulating fan!!! No more going up and down stairs to adjust a fan to keep my temps and humidity JUST in that sweet spot. Well NOW I don’t have to deal with that pain as much. So whoooo hoooo!!! I know I’m a lot to take in. But just think Sheldon from Big Bang theory but with a lot more testicular fortitude....
PEACE...
