I can't help but wonder if it'd be possible to cross the right plants to make a strain where these are possible names.

Any thoughts ? Essentially I'm looking into what most people consider "Foul Odors". Durian Fruit is well known, and that type of Shark they have in Scandinavia where it has to be aged to be safe to eat, which apparently smells like urine...

Anyone who'd like to add in to this is welcome. Basically wondering what the most foul smelling plants you've ever sniffed are.

Ethyl Mercaptan (ethanethiol)

It also naturally occurs in petroleum and smells so much like death that some oil companies use vultures to pinpoint gas leaks. What is this? It even has a claim to fame, being ranked as the Guinness Book of World Records' “smelliest substance”.

LOL so, breeder goals there! I'd love to find a way to have a plant that ended up having Vultures flying overtop looking for food, haha.

Vieux Boulogne

The Vieux Boulogne is the smelliest cheese in the world. One scientist even subjected it's smell to an electronic nose, a device that detects urinary infections and tuberculosis on which it tested positive!

It's no surprise then that some describe the cheese as smelling like a cows behind. Keen to give that one a try? We might skip it for now.

But I'm totally looking ! Thus far, the most rank one I've found is a Blue Cheese mystery cross that was almost overpowering even for me..... We had it hanging up to to dry in the bedroom, and it was actually hard to sleep in there LOL.

After it was in the jar for a bit, I was burping jars of it, and the Wife came in and asked me if the Cat had peed in the room LOL. Skunky and Cat pee pee were the main notes, and though some others were in there, it was actually hard to smell anything else because of the pungent nature.

Susie Cream Cheese has real chances of Limburger, which is also quite a nice sniff

Rotting fruit is a bit more difficult for me to find, since I don't normally run anything that has fruit in the description, but I did have a strain that seems to be something that was locally bred, and it did have a legit fermented fruit like smell.

the keeper was like you put pineapple cream cheese streudel in your wet work boots. and then left them in the work van for a hot weekend. it had great fungal resistance and body from the ortega, but density, ease of trim, flavor and potency from sweet tooth.

I'm desperately trying to put together coin to grab some when @kropduster makes his drop on July 6. he worked hard bringing this unique flavor to a near IBL, and i'm really excited that kropduster was skilled enough to preserve the one of a kind flavor profile through the journey to turning an f1 into essentially a p1 without losing the qualities that made her still stand out 20 years later.

ohh that tropical rotten fruit stank? Anything I run is gonna need mold resistance so thats a plus as well. LUI from @kropduster ? will keep a look out but I've exceeded my seed haording budget for the month currently.

Some of my funkier ones in recent memory include the Freak genetics Watermelon Delight I’m smoking now. It’s predominantly moth balls up front, then lemon, and a hint of garlic at the end.
Also, I had an awesome smelling Grape Marmalade x Garlic Breath (Freak again) gal that was slightly grape up front, followed by a really nice nail polish remover (acetone) funk that was the stronger note. I’m running the second round of that and his Sour Banana x Garlic Breath to make F2s and find more keepers.

GMO, and most everything I’ve run with Chem D has been mothballs and garlic smelling, at some point.
My old cut of "Chemdog" was pure lemon and gasoline, which I loved! Still trying to get ahold of 91 to see if that was her.

The Northern Lights cut I had was actually piney and Skunky at some points. Almost got me fired for stinking up work, when some bitch tried to snitch and make herself look better, I guess?
Same workplace, I had a nug of Grape Ape that Skunked out at least 3 floors of the stairwell my jacket / nug were in.

A lot of my Golden Tigers and crosses get really savory / spicy / meaty during flower.

I also have a Bodhi cross that’s supposed to be the “Durian” cut of Ortega, crossed to Snow Lotus, but the couple I grew so far weren’t real funky, but fruity, with a little bitter funk too. I’ll have to try the last few I have before they age too much.

That sounds nice! The Dead Whabbits currently has a strong smell of raw meat. Like a raw steak so far. Apparently it'll turn to rotting meat at some point but I haven't even sexed that plant yet. The smell from one so small and sparkly though, totally has my attention

Side question; has anyone ever had a Sativa Landrace actually stink? Afghanistan and other near by areas are the only places I know that have that capability and I don't know much about Sativas. HBZ you love those, and enjoy the stank, have you ever seen this?

One to seek I'm sure you'd like that's predominantly Sativa is Romulan..She can get foul ! 8 miles high can produce some serious rotting fruit odor..Lots of black pepper type smells also in sativa...Keep in mind terpenes are terpenes...Sativa or indica..The right combo can lead to some major funk...Just like there is plenty of sweet smelling Affies...there is plenty of foul sativas

the rare dankness RD#1 and #2 crosses are all a baby poo kind of lip curl lol, something i believe to come from the triangle kush in the lineage. triangle kush has a sharper baby poo funk to it, at least to my nose. funny describing smells sometimes

cherry pie is also insanely stinky, just brushing against the roots of a CP clone will stink up the entire area. ECSD is much more pleasing to my nose compared to the chem D flower i have here, but also extremely volatile smelling, and permeating.

the only sativa "landrace" ive held and ran to finish was a shadow master from snowhigh. smelled like straight mint, overwhelming tbh. one of the few cuts my ex-partner actually managed to take. definitely not a cheese stench but certainly unique.

wondering if there is any real skunk #1 one could pillage through looking for selections i have a guy on my IG who seems to have the real deal, unfortunately my local buddy's skunk #1 is pretty much lost. sensi and others offer it, but i have to wonder how diluted everything is nowadays in seed form.

We’ve got Authentic Genetics’ Skunk#1, and RKS (via Cheeba, I think) that were repopulated by Skunky Dunk in the PH preservation vault. I’ve only run a couple of the Skunk #1 so far, but mainly got Grapefruit, and onions from them. Great flavor and active effect though.

Yeah, I’ve gotten some surprising funk from fruity, even purple fruity strains. Grape / Skunk has been a nice combo to run across, when they express themselves.

No Cheetos ordered here, but I’ll go ahead and call dibs on some of yours now, for when it finishes 😂😂

I’m curious about the funkiness of Durian myself, but haven’t had the displeasure of a nostril full yet!
I’d bet if you looked hard enough through the Asian markets in Madison Heights or Troy, they’ve got it though.

I asked because basically, every time I've read about really stinky Landraces, it's been Afghanistan basically. I know one dude on here had Pakistan that was BO and Onions, but I'm pretty sure that was Indica too. So I wanted to know if Sativas were known for it at all, and.... let's face it; I'm not gonna trust Leafly on that lol.

Lol! I'm pretty sure #1 is a female but it's not confirmed yet; still kinda small. The smell though is a legit Cheese smell. The Sour Diesel male probably just added to that Exodus Cheese. #2 might be a dude.... very much conflicted on what I'll do if he looks good later.

i believe LV triangle kush has royal kush involved, the purple royal k. if i have had it in flower form i cant remember it, meaning wasn't memorable... and genetically it can only bottleneck triangle imo.

this convo spurred some googling, to remind myself at the minimum. sam the skunkfed was selecting towards the sweeter, less skunky side of "skunk" for generations. basically stripping the line of thiols over time, on some level. i still cant get over how i confused my buddy's skunk#1 for sour d (decade or two ago), but thats a good example of how disturbing skunk was back in the day, at least in memory.

im looking at ag's skunk rn, certainly looks right to my eyes. can 100% see acapulco gold peeking through in one of the pics.

there are ways to deep dive lines with some selfing trickery, if one wanted to find specific recessive phenos, say pre-sweet skunk #1. a relatively well known breeder has explained to me how to look for recessives this way... but my memory is hazy. pre apologies if i got anything wrong with the verbage..

select female (variety 1)

self that female for S1 seeds (variety 1 x <variety 1 reversed>)

run those S1 seeds for selection (variety 1 S1 #?)

take S1 selection back to original male (variety 1 S1 #?) x (variety 1)

taking that progeny to F2, then selecting from that final pool for recessives. one could also use the original female and add a step, a la karma.

(variety 1 S1 #? x <variety 1 reversed>)

then go back to original male again, after selecting from that reversed pool.

(variety 1 S2? #?) x (variety 1)

and take that to F2 again. could also repeat the entire process with final progeny for more lifewrecking recombinant fun. josh D og, peyote purple, and several GG4 hybrids i know of have been worked in some similar manner.
