Got some DE @AlienAthena. What's best? Layer in top & bottom or mix in or both? Never used this stuff before & havent even opened bag yet. Getting ready to do lots of repotting so figured I'd try it. I'm in tents indoors if it makes a difference. I'll take advice from anyone, I just specifically tagged the person that mentioned it previously. Thanks in advance

DE is great for crawling type insects, it is very fine dust though so be careful not to get a lung full.
I use a condiment container, the type for ketchup and mustard, fill it up and puff it where i want it. Do the same around the soil then use a fork or similar to rake it in.
Well i used it today for the first time while repoting. I was using 3 gallon pots and put about a inch of coco in the bottom and a generous sprinkle of mosquito bits and I put about 4-5 heaping table spoons of the DE and mixed together. Pretty much the same one the top layer. I hope i did it right i mean as soon as water looks at that DE powder it disappears. Very fine powder.

As a pest deterant it needs to be dry. Thats when it can do its slicing.
When wet it is still available as a amendment and will when dry again work again as pest deterant.

. I hope i am finally on top of this gnat issue. It really takes a broad range regular use IMP to stay on top of things.

I mist the top of the soil/medium with H202 followed by a little water to dilute it a bit. Direct fan on top of pots/soil and when it isn’t as damp, cut it off and sprinkle DE over the top (making sure to cover my nose!!), mix it in a bit and then another layer on top. Let pots dry out completely before watering again.
Sticky traps for the adult/flying ones.

Im able to stay clear of them by continually blowing air over the soil . I can get away with 3 to 4 inches of dry soil because i have such a large container. Its only wet after i water.

Lol, I used to use a fork until they got to 2 gallon then just use my hand, also makes the soil look much more appealing. Hate the look of the floated perlite.

Havent looked into them much. Gotta be careful, almost maxed out on breakers here & hes got asthma. Is it safe is my main concern, then can I use it without blowing breakers

Been 20 years since I've grown hydro lol, easier in some ways but for some reason I just like playing with dirt (I know promix isn't dirt but I usually call it dirt for simplicity, most people dont know the dif anyway)

I'm having some severe heat issues 2 nights a week also (at work so cant open tent when lights come on) so if I mix it in I'll get some silica ammendment to help with heat stress & put layer on top & bottom to help with gnat control (sticky traps all over already, always remember to put hair up now though because getting fly strip stuck in hair is terrible). I've dumped peroxide outta bottle straight on larvae & they dont all die, freaked me out

I just read a little on it the other day. It would only be used In short bursts. You would have to purchase the "commercial" model but there ideal for one room sterilization. Read you can use in short bursts to kill the bugs and not harm the plants. Buuuut I'm a noob and only read so may want to look into it more.

@DreamsOfDiesel This kills them and the eggs on contact! I use it to treat PM and use FF soils..haven't seen a gnat in months.
Just make sure that the lights are out before spraying so it doesn't damage the leaves.
2 ounces to a gallon.

Got temps to stay below 90 finally, was getting 95-100 & frying them while they were growing, total hoosier job but it worked

Lost a few, damaged a few, had 1 of the gmo sourdubb x wilson come thru it like a total champ (barely a brown spot anywhere), the sour diesels have suffered the worst, foxtails on 2, cut the 3rd because it was pretty much dead in its pot, just looking at me all brownish colored & dry & airy, ugh, choppy choppy so I dont have to look at it (it was the 1 with very little trich production so i was planning on tossing it anyway).
I actually like the critical kush & the ak48 so gonna keep those for run or 2 at least. I'm quite angry with my sour 91s, 1 sucky plant still in veg because it has crappy recovery skills, the 3 good ones are all freaking male, threw away 2 & kept best.
