the clear tub isn't ideal, but here's my attempt at your f&d style. they didn't have shorties when i went the second time, after splitting the first one.

your yield is gonna be amazing. can't wait to see final numbers!
My other tent has several runs on that style tub & is kicking off another round now I'm running esos big n tasty single plant from seed 20201105_154245.jpg 20201105_154254.jpg

do you have any problems with algae growth on the sides? what about standing water? is the pot supported up out of what doesn't drain somehow?
I have a return line about 5in up on the side of the tote that limits the flood depth of the nutrients & I'm using sunshine mix#4 which is peat based & behaves a lot like coco except technically it's a soiless mix & I run the ph a bit higher 6.3 - 6.7 using megacrop & my tap water I've been able to eliminate ph. adjustments the mix has a wick effect on any excess liquid left after I flood once the scrog fills no light hits the tub any how I used to take a construction marker stake like the ones we had sword fights when I was a kid & shim the tub opposite of the inlet so everything pretty much drained back down the inlet hose once the pump shut off but using the soiless mix smart pot combo any excess gets absorbed

ah ok. that makes sense with promix. i'm in rockwool so it doesn't wick the same way, or i may not have been patient enough. probably could've cut my flood intervals down a bit. my flood limiter is also like a bulk head fitting, you know the ones typical of f&d trays. couple of tubes running up to the bottom of the tote, one in, one out. still end up with ~1" standing solution after a flood event though.

First rodeo, so I'm riding yours and red's threads to figure out the process lol

For me it's easier than soil & you don't have to flood as often at one time I grew in rockwool blocks on top of 12x36 slabs in a 3x3 tub only had to flood every 3-4 days tried it in hydroton too you've gotta flood that stuff a lot more but there is good results to be had we have power outages pretty regular so I stick to this method & from a reliability stand point I also use mechanical timers

ah no shit. i'm flooding 3x a day right now with 4x4 rockwool cubes on top of 2 inches of hydroton. think i might cut that back something significant to like once a day. good lookin out man
Once your roots ge into hydroton its gonna change up I would think every 3-4 hrs. during lights on & 1 flooding during lights out during veg to 2 times after you flip Red is way more experienced in hydroton grows I kind of took the easy way out the smart pot & coco or in my case sunshine #4 holds the nutrients longer so if I have a power outage while I'm away I've got 48 to 72 hrs before I've got to worry loosing plants I live in a high fire area where power shutoff & failures happen overall consistency & mistake forgiveness is the reason I do it this way & you'll find a method that gives the results you want & in turn develop a style that you like I've always done pretty much as you're doing just see what others are doing & the results they're getting & adapt my version of what they're doing I've seen some monster dwc grows & I've attempted it a few times but e&f is what I always return to

''C" will drain a res, if sufficient head above 90 will initiate syphon.
"B" is for Bell. Over complicated for this application.
"A" is my go to method. Even if the elbow is way above hi-water mark,, the 'on' cycle will prime the syphon and suck your tub dry, after power down.

"D" is essentially 'A' - will work just fine~without bulkheads.

The same tube will fill and drain the upper- tub,,, it does not eliminate a bulk head, as a standpipe would be needed to determine the high water line in the upper bin.

This is my 3x3 setup the 4x4 the same just looks different last night I flooded this morning the bottom is dry I put all of my plumbing right at the front of the tent everything has easy access my inlet & return right at the front of the tote these style fittings the best its 1/2 in my return is 3/4 that's because my reservoir capacity is more than my tub the overflow goes back to the reservoir when I made the stand I made the front 1/4in lower than the back to drain better now with the larger reservoir I'm able to take off for a few days & not worry about things drying out I prefer the inlet on the front edge of the tote so the smart pots don't block it also having everything in the front allows easy access should I have any problem occur 20201105_154254.jpg 20201106_105027.jpg 20201106_105036.jpg 20201106_105043.jpg 20201106_105214.jpg 20201106_110700.jpg
