I've mounted my Diawa Millionaire on a 36" baitcaster ice rod. It looks pretty comical, but with the baitclicker it should make the perfect deadstick.

I can only use 2 lines in the winter so I don't use tip-ups, preferring to jig one rod and have a second hole close by to get the less aggressive biters. It's easy to miss a twitching rod tip in a dark tent, and a slip-bobber is a hassle, so the baitclicker fits the bill nicely.

I love the custom bait bag I made a few years ago and can’t remember if I’ve shared it on here. I just cut some plastic gutter pieces and they work as dividers for the big ol musky lures. I shore fish a lot so being able to shoulder sling my baits makes it easy to keep on the prowl. It holds all my essentials pretty well too

What's the roach clip looking thing?
The black wire tool on top in the last pic? That's a jaw spreader to keep you safe(r) and make it easier to remove hooks.

Even though I own every other style of spreader, I recently splurged on a fancier set(they were on sale).
Two features I like: the close fitting ends that slide right between even clamped-down pike jaws, and the little clip on the shaft that disengages with a squeeze, making them one-hand operable.

I just realized from these posts, that, if I catch a Musky or a Pike, I'm gonna end up with some bite marks LOL. I don't have a jaw spreader, and honestly I rarely use a net for landing (My reason is simple; I'm targeting Catfish, and sometimes Carp or Suckers, so really, I just grab the fish and pull them up, which I don't generally need a net for) so if I hook into something that has teeth like that, I may well have to use my hook remover. I've only used it twice. Had a White Perch (Actually two of them the same day) SWALLOW a Circle Hook....A little shocked a mouth that small could get it down, but boy did he! I know it was a "he" because of the "Milk" he shot on me when I pulled him up....*sigh*. LOL. I had to use the hook removal tool for the first time, because I didn't want to yank his guts out through his mouth removing a Circle Hook that was in his stomach. Next cast, with a bigger hook was exactly the same. I don't have this issue with Catfish, because my hand can fit in there easier.

Walleye haven't ever bitten me, even though they have the Teeth for it, but a Musky, I can easily see that thing being like "Fuck your finger bro, I'm taking one!" LOL.

I'm still a baby when it comes to grabbing the musky. I use gloves because even their gills can slice you up nice. Ol' frank will just grab em...but then again he's caught like 100 of them.

I've seen that there's a "slit" directly in the middle, where you can safely grab them, but my inexperience would lead to a very funny, albeit bloody, video of my first Musky LOL. I'd also be concerned about the teeth from grabbing the slit in the middle, since it looks like the mouth is where your fingers end up, at least from what I've seen anyway. I've seen guys grab them out of the water like it's nothing, and I imagine they are very careful with fingers, given the looks of the teeth haha

Anybody have any experience with these particular life jackets?
I really should wear a life jacket on early and late ice(and on unknown lakes, and.......well, all the time, probably)

I won't pay the 5 or 6 hundred they charge for a flotation jacket that will take a beating and get dirty, but having one of these under my coat is a nice bit of insurance.
Any thoughts?

I have to wear one of those out on the dredge barge at work all day... Fairly comfortable after you get used to it..Ive only seen one engage once..My partner was walking in knee deep water at the dock carrying his...That thing touched the water and blew up instant...Afyer seeing that i fear that bastard would choke me to death if not worn properly..Has a loud pop noise when deployed and doubles in size in a nano second

We do have a few different ones..Some say Cabela's on them...some dont but they are basically exactly the same...Use the same canisters and all.....I seen my cuz some years back when we was ice fishing Erie have one that just went around your neck..No way ide wear that thing..Ide rather drown before i got choked to death by a saftey device..Ide just be sure to wear it properly...Under clothes would work fine as ive seen the other guys do many times under a hoodie..That bastard goes off under a button up ide assume them buttons will shoot off like bullets😂😂

I have a book about when Musky feed, and yeah the Moon seems to play a role in feeding, as does water temp and so on, but one thing that seems to be shocking, is that you can catch them when it's dark out too. I mean, it makes sense in a way, they have amazing vision, and can see REALLY well, even when it's dark. You ever tried them right before the Sun comes up, or a bit after it goes down ?
