Yeah sometimes, I have to remind myself that "this is one of the very best baits I can use, and if nothing is hitting yet, just wait!" And then eventually I'll get interest. Now, in Winter, if it's cold and you're targeting Catfish, sometimes you do have to check multiple spots. They slow down a lot in cold weather, and I've seen guys who won't waste more than 15 minutes on a spot, but that makes sense in my head, as you kind of have to put it right in front of them, because they're very unlikely to move much at that time of year. Their metabolism slows way down. You go from tossing a half pound live fish for bait, to using small jig heads with a little minnow on them. There are definitely two extremes. There are the guys(usually with fast boats or skidoos) who pull up, try for a few minutes, and move on to the next spot if the fish aren't jumping out of the water at them. Then there are the ones who go the same place and do the same thing every time, with no flexibility.
I'm not super mobile, so I go to where I figure the fish should be and then start working through the bag of tricks. I have fallen into the no-flexibility trap before, especially in the river. Nowadays, carrying 3 or 4 rods rigged for specific presentations keeps me on my toes.
