Yeah the perch have really cool colors. Where in the country do you fish? This is a fun thread. Super cool to see fish from different places.
Midwest here. There’s some pike around me but more musky. There’s perch too but I haven’t caught one in a spell. I think those have one of my favorite patterns on them.

Im stoked that you found your way to the thread! Now you can get in on all the fun and goofy things we got going on in here. Participation boxes should be pretty neat at the end!

Pattern wise I look in my tackle box and there's a lot of perch. They're all over the place up here and are even fun to catch sometimes. Depending on where you're fishing

Yeah I love em. Up by me you really can't go wrong with a mepps #3 or #5 in fire tiger with gold spoons. I catch big bass, northern, big perch and every once in a while a muskie on them. I lost a big Northern yesterday on a bluegill. I should've tied on a new leader after the 1st one but I was lazy and it cost me a biggin'. Today is redemption! 😂

This little guy wasn't even hooked. The hook is right behind the bluegills back fin. He hung on tight and even got thrown back with the little guy in his mouth. They are such an aggressive species.

That’s awesome! The pike and musky are such predators. I love fishing for them things. That picture is perfect too. It really shows how them things prowl for anything that moves basically. Also it looks like you have some awesome weed beds to fish from that lake!! I know it’s annoying trying to get a picture after a fish so I appreciate you!’ Thanks for sharing hopefully we see more!

Enjoying this thread and looking forward to participating in the 2024 edition.

I am down in the water three times a week, and not having a licence is starting to wear me down.
My little man is getting his footing and learning some shore etiquette; we will be good to go come spring.

I am reading the regulations, and technically I don't think we allowed to dip-net fish. Minnows or otherwise.
I don't want them for 'personal use', however I am not interested in breaking the rules either.
Fish and Game officers have the power to confiscate your vehicles, how am I to get home without my John Deere wagon?😎

Sport fishing license not required, crayfish it is.

I have had this thing for a few years, and have never actually used it. Today is the day. 20230915_132727.jpg

The trap has a pocket sewn in for bait, we chose to leave it empty. I not only damand my crayfish to be free range, yet to be free willed as well.

Score !!

Cant identify. Not a local game fish.
I have seen enough fry to know that although these may not be adult fish, they are old enough to show adult proportions.

I didnt capture any spread fins in the photos. That is key to identification,,, on a colorless, featureless fish.

No barbels, mouth is forward facing. Salmoniod shape head 20230915_121604_(1).jpg

Like, Pike torpedo

The jawline does not extend under the eyes, and the dorsal fin is not rearward enough.

Pretty shade of metallic blue. When they move in schools you can see an occasional flash of white, when someone gets out of line.

At any rate, I am certain these are no form of crustaceous anthropoid.

No crayfish, all we can do is try again.
It was a great day.

I grab crayfish with my hands normally, but I've used a dip net before too; they're really good bait for Catfish so I like having them around. I have a collapsible clothes basket (10 dollar live well...) that I keep fish in for this reason. I have a cast net, but haven't gotten to take it out yet.

Not me. Last time I tried to catch a crayfish with my hand, it shot under my foot in my flip flop and I screamed like a new born baby.

Due to the large scales and eye colouration I would guess a juvenile goldeye.

Goldeye Hiodon alsoides

Bro like 3 years ago, I was fishing at a park, and saw one so big it looked like a Lobster... I grabbed him, and instantly realized how strong those pinchers can be lol. I'd never seen one so big before, and got a little concerned about my fingers, but man... whatever I hooked into took my Circle Hook with it and was gone. I can usually grab normal sized ones that are 3 inches or so with my hands from the shallows, but that big one was like 5 inches? That shit HURT lol. I've seen a Flathead turn and charge a grown man in a pool, but this was nuts lol.
