When I was in high school there was a duplex about a block away and one of the tenants was growing poppies. Someone had snagged a couple heads and we sliced them and put the juice on rolling papers. Not bad but at the time we were getting thai sticks with opium. Man we got ripped back in the day?

Yeah it was incredibly easy to grow even with my total "don't know wtf I'm doing" thing lol. I ordered some seeds from Amsterdam of 3 or 4 different strains of Papaver Somniferum, and the smell was incredible and I did enjoy that lol. The seeds you can buy at a store in the spice rack aisle are Persian Blue and they do germinate but again, not anything I'd recommend at my age lol. I never ended up harvesting that much and didn't really know what I was doing but yeah, younger days hahahaha.

Thai Sticks sadly I only know from Cheech and Chong but I imagine they smelled wonderful! I've had crosses of Thai weed but never the real thing as far as I know.
