Cover Crops??? Rootballs???
What to do with all those rootballs? Spread them out in different spots about 6" thick. Then plant with crimson clover in the fall. This is what you have growing now, just starting to flower. Perfect time to harvest it.
6" thick because that's about the depth of the roots.
Take a square shovel and cut that 6" back out, with both the plants and roots. You can see the difference in color on the existing grade. here's a plant.
Those white nodules on the roots are nitrogen that was pulled from the atmosphere
I filled 5 eighteen gallon planters with what was dug up today. Tossed clover and roots right in. Those pots will get sweet potatoes aproxx June 1. At the end of the season, I'll dump the planters out to harvest and then do it again.
Crimson Clover has a pretty flower. The idea is to cut it as it starts to flower to get the max nitrogen. I'll always cut some of the flowers and put them in a vase, they last a while and look great.......
Meanwhile........... finally ordered some Comfrey crowns........now we'll really be growing fertilizer
