like majority of pest and issues, key is knowing ur issue, prevention and knowing these things can and will come ur way. Otherwise if u let it go to med-high levels = its way harder and a battle. Why fuck around?
have this pest id confirmed before going the rabbit hole and pressure bug % IPM is a big thing cause like many pest they def can be blindly there and a issue in ur room.even the biggest and best grow rooms make sure to use a proper i-m even if they don’t use any sprays or anything like that. people think by wording that these “traps’ are intended for keeping populations at bay, yes it does capture some of the adults. The traps are intended to see ur pest pressure and when u see more than 3 per week on each trap, that’s the sign you need more ipm for fungus gnats.
the issue with that aspect is in fungus gnats they will only attract and trap the fliers and that’s a fully staged adult. issue with this every bug like many pest can produce 100’s per day of larvae and key is to never allow high populations and now even in a closed room you can and will get fungus gnats but key is to never allow them to be a issue. many regions it’s really a way of life per say.
now the key is to multi stage kill and prevent the pest. I would suggest to use liquid BTI 8% and apply this once a week at 1/2-1ml a gallon ( this will kill larvae , works but isnt the golden ticket)
if you notice “more than “3 fungus gnats” on trap per week you need to ramp up the killing ipm on all stages, keep using BTI but if you can afford get a FG/thrip dominant nematode for larvae and get rove beetles (indoors) or h miles for greenhouse/outdoors ( rove beetles will leave ur area if not enough pest and cost more)
I suggest to only use the predator defense once u see those 3 pest pressure ( when I do it’s normally in end of veg/early flower) and it normally gives me a defense for whole next season too. Fungus gnats can be a huge issue and people are blind on how they like many pest are spreading disease and damaging ur root/medium quality .

larvae stage IPM = nematodes ( I pick 250 million and do both rooms with same rez, like both IPM make sure to read the instructions fully)
Steinernema feltiae Beneficial Nematodes
teen-adult IPM = rove beetles
Atheta coriaria or Rove beetle (Dalotia coriaria are used primarily to assist in the control of shore flies and fungus gnats and other small arthropods in the soil or planting media. They also help control soil stages of thrips and feed on most other small soil organisms such as moth flies...

i used to be more blind on it but after seeing the diff of “without infected’ to infected with FG , you really don’t want to have infection cause for all the energy in this. That’s def a ball hitter in my books
I go overboard cause smallest version are way more costly and shipping is same. shipping is about 50%
fungus gnat Id ( make sure u got this, if it’s not email a bug expert )
