Sticky traps....

I treat using diatomaceous earth & it ends up becoming a soil amendment. I apply a light dusting after every watering (fans & exhaust turned off!) It doesn't kill the larve but does a number on the adults. Hydrogen peroxide works well to kill the larve as well but I'm sure it kills some beneficials.

I've been doing a mixture of sand diatomaceous and perlite. I spread an even 1/8 in layer and then put my rubber mulch over that. Been working well the last year or so

The thought of painting sticky glue on a yellow plate....soooo gross. I have heebee jeebees with sticky and those traps at least they have a paper that it doesnt stick to (and i stick the other side to the wall so it wont stick on ME).

Lean against one and you will catch gnats on your arm....STICKY...so...gross.

Strangely enough i can overcome the heebee jeebees with rosin for extended periods of time...Will Power !

Danger Will Rosin...Danger.

I considered using the sand as well. What brand or grade of sand do you use? Also what rubber mulch?
Play sand and the rubber mulch is outside at home Depot near the regular mulch. Try to get the finest green stuff you can get. And I just do an even layer on top. It definitely helps when watering too huge difference

Or you reach under the canopy to yoink a few leaves, and end up with a sticky gnat mess in your hair. I don't do anything in the room without a hat on now lmao.

I've had better luck with the gnats since I decided to be proactive instead of reactive. Sticky traps go up asap and they get BTI in the res once per week. So far I only have like 4 or 5 gnats stuck to the sticky traps this cycle.

I've came to the conclusion that it's almost impossible to eliminate the bastards entirely, but if you don't wait for an infestation it's easier to keep them to a minimum. By the time you see any flying around it's already out of control.

Hey y'all,
I use fresh EWC, 1/4" on top of soil, cover with 1/2" wood mulch, to keep surface from drying out. I keep yellow sticky traps in every area as @BH suggested to monitor the bug population. Now, I will only have 2-8 FGs in any given area per month! It is so easy and effective, plus the girls love it!!!

Man I have had recent success knocking out my fungus gnats using the same method. I top dressed with a little playsand + diatomaceous earth instead of mulch. The natural insecticide from the EWC definetly kills their larva as they haven't returned. I would of normally gone through 2 cycles of them by now.
