Just to add, going to have some new additions incoming. I've been waiting on mango thai to be available. Once I was notified I went to grab it ...While I was at it grabbed Tirah and Highland Lao #2 as well for the project. Really stoked! The lao #2 and mango thai have been unavailable for quite some time.
It sure did take awhile, and after a snafu with mail, these landed..

I am new here, just caught up, , most amazing place and things you all are doing! Hoping to find some input/knowledge for my current project. Not sure if this is the right place so I will try to keep it short. My uncle was the towns provider in the 70's (in So Cal) He gifted me the seeds he saved from 76-77, Sunk, Columbian gold, and one single Thai seed. If I can get any to germinate/ grow I will preserve them in anyway possible and send them in to this wonderful community. Doing batches of about 6-8 technique used: score with a blade at the seam, sandpaper, dilute h2o2 2-3 hours then gibirilic acid x12-24 hours then bubbled in a jar with molasses and alfalfa seeds x 48 hours, then soil. Nothing yet :( estimated remaining seed count: 30-40 skunk, 20 Columbian gold and well 1 single Thai seed. If this is the wrong thread I apologize.

Although we do have a skills section within this preservation effort, Germination is currently empty.

This is probably a good place to start the conversation but as we build this joint out it would be nice to populate some of the existing resources.

My first question is have you had success with these methods with seeds you would expect to germinate with less effort? The reason I ask is the 48hr bubbling seems like something that would terminate the process.

Manually carack? URB?

Best of luck.

No. I read it somewhere so thought I would try it. Only tried it with a few seeds. Currently doing the same technique without the bubble. Funny thing is all the alfalfa seed sprouted in the bubble lol.
Manually crack after the soak and place in soil?
I think people crack before the soak but I have never tried or researched.

As I continue to work on getting these 40+ year old seeds to germinate. would a seed increase with chocolate trip be of any interest and or worthy of folks here?
I wish I had an answer for you, but a 40 YO seed would have to have been stored under ideal circumstances to have a chance at germinating. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see you get those genetics back in play but I'd betcha a hundo it's not gonna happen. Keep trying friend, but I strongly suggest you start some new beans. The fresh beans will get you in motion while you're waiting for the old ones to revive. Good luck:dogsmoke:...

If I don't pop a few beans every few weeks, I start to worry about my commitment!!!

So your sayin' there's a chance ..yes!
It's like playing the lotto, I know I won't win but everytime I give 4 quarters I get to dream and have hope for a few days. Same feeling I get when I place a 40 year old seed in gibirilic acid ;).

The community has a seed winnower available for members to use (just a few finishing touches needed). The deal is you gotta clean and ship it to the next borrower.

I will be giving it a test run when Nepal Highland #1 is ready. The internals are glued to one side and the plan is to use quick clamps to hold it together. I should be able to source some clamps that will pack easy for shipping. Alcohol and a soft brush should work for cleaning.

If you are interisted dm me.

Of course you can disregard this post if the test run doesn't pan out.

From the article:

"Currently, I have over 100 varieties in my collection and I’m willing to share them with others, I would like to come up with some type of genetic bank where we could all share the caretaking of various varieties and make them available to one another at a reasonable compensation. Authenticated genetics shared by a group of conscious cultivators looking to give the monopolizing corporations some complications by sharing the love."

We need to recruit Todd to the Phenohunters for sure.
He has been enlightened of our cause.
I've burned through at least 13 packs of his gear over the years.

Malawi (reg) from ace. I made F2's. This is one PXL_20220326_033557050.jpg I grew ( 2 gal) just to see what a random F2 would grow. Not sure if this would qualify as a preservation as it was not an open pollination. I only had room for a few at the time and well, I had a male so I just had to make seeds. If anyone is interested in this I will send some seeds in...I plan to make more ?. Still have both mother and stud. Although you can take it at 11-12 weeks I think more like 14-16 to do it justice. But WELL worth it!
